KENNEL LISTING KENNEL LISTING KENNEL LISTING

I was born and raised in England and came with my husband and son to the USA in 1965. I became a Whippet lover and owner in May of 1969. Using the kennel name "Wyndsor," I bred my first litter in 1970.

My first assignment to judge was in July of 1972 when I did the sweepstakes a the prestigious Santa Barbara show. Since then I have judged many sweepstakes and matches and greatly enjoyed them all.

I am especially thrilled to judge the Triathlon Conformation at this year's National Specialty.

I would like to thank you for giving me this privilege.

Raised with pure bred dogs, I have spent most of my adult life breeding and exhibiting Bichon Frises. I have, also, had more than a passing experience with Collies, Whippets and Chinese Shar-pei.

Originally permitted by the AKC to pass judgement on the Bichon Frise and Junior Showmanship, I also now judge Chinese Shar-Pei's, Dalmatians and Lhasa Apsos.

It is my firm belief that the future of pure bred dogs lies in the hands of our juniors, and I am honored to be asked to judge this event.

Pam Shea can truly be called a woman of many facets in the Sport of Dogs. She really is the dog fancier who "has been there and done that."

As a young girl in the 1960's, she started out in Obedience work with her beloved dogs. The challenge and the rewards of developing her canine charges was an exciting beginning that led her into every other conceivable segment of today's Dog Fancy! She went on to

prove herself a most competent breeder with Whippets, Dalmatians and German Shorthaired Pointers. Though she is not actively breeding dogs today, she is still sought out for advice by top breeders.

Growing into the Sport as she did, Pam became a leading AKC Professional Handler and a member of the PHA. She was the pilot for numbers of Best in Show dogs with many, many Groups due to her expertise at the end of the leash. She was know as the winner with the gentle touch. Her handling career came to a halt when her husband and partner in the business was appointed and hired by the AKC as a member of their Executive Field Staff.

Though she is no longer seen in the ring, Pam still has her Champion Whippet, Lhasa and Italian Greyhound. With five cats and a parrot, the Shea home still bubbles with animal life. Her busy life as an Account Representative with Hallmark Cards, keeps her on an ever constant go, but she still finds "some" time for her plants and orchids.

Pam looks forward to judging Veteran Sweepstakes with anticipation.

Dog's are my. life. . .Whippets, my passion. I've been lucky enough to have indulged my passion for forty-plus years.

I've had moderate success in both breeding, exhibit ing, but mostly, especially of late, I've just been enjoying and loving each and every Whippet.

Whippets as a breed have progressed greatly since the early fifties. They are more beautiful and sounder while maintaining the spirit, sweetness and essence of the breed.

Best wishes to Whippet fanciers worldwide. "Good on Ya," as they say in Australia.

Cal Perry, 253 Wyatt Hollow, Bristol, Tennessee 37602

It is an honor for me to make my judging debut at the American Whippet Club's twelfth National Specialty. The Altered classes are as important to the fancy as any other, in my opinion, and I'm proud to be part of judging them.

The dogs entered in this division are living proof of what has been bred. This is what must be judged in the show ring as no judge can predict how an animal will reproduce; there are too many variables at hand. Even the brood bitch and stud dog classes require living examples of the get to be present.

There are many reasons in our modern day, other than lack of quality, to alter our animals. Overseas, in the Whippets' native land, neutered dogs compete equally with those intact animal who may or may not go on to successful breeding programs.

Considering my background in horses, I do, indeed value the good gelding and hope others do as well.

So thank's to all the exhibitors who show evidence of this by presenting their altered Whippets.

My relationship with Whippets began in 1962 when I handled for Don Hostetter (Lazeland) and for my two other clients, Vic Renner (Renfield) and John Burger (Kobold) who had purchased dogs from Don.

I acquired my first Whippet in 1964 and did limited breeding under the kennel name of Lazebrook. I was active in both conformation and ARM racing in the 60's and 70's. I co-bred a few litters with Dave and Nancy Henry (Slades).

I've been a member of the American Whippet Club since some time in the 60's and served on the Board of Directors from 1975 to 1979 and as Vice-President from 1976 to 1977.

I also served as a member of the Long Haired Whippet investigation chaired by Charles Billings in 1982.

I was licensed by the AKC as an all breed handler from 1962 until 1978 when they ceased issuing licenses.

I applied and was approved to judge Greyhounds, Salukis and Whippets in 1980 and then applied for additional breeds in 1995. I am now additionally approved for Borzoi, Irish Wolfhounds, and Scottish Deerhounds.

I have raised and shown several breeds of pigeons, Old English Game Bantams, Scottish Fold cats and am just starting with Mini-Rex rabbits. I have also owned a Standard Bred race horse and a Saddle- bred.

I retired from Columbia Gas Systems Service Corporation in 1989 after 31 years of employment, mostly as a EDP Data Control Manager.

My only claim to fame is that I have managed to maintain a great friendship with Pat Dresser for more than 30 years.

Shirley Indelicato is totally involved in all aspects of the dog fancy, as breeder, conformation and obedience exhibitor, and approved judge for all obedience classes.

She began formal obedience work in 1957 by training a very strong-willed poodle puppy by first reading Blanche Saunder's book and then going outside and working the dog from what she had learned. After completing the Novice degree and having learned about "Obedience Classes," she enrolled in advance training classes, subsequently earning a Utility degree on the "impossible" puppy.

Since then Shirley has trained several poodles though various American and Mexican degrees, with several Will Judy awards and several 200 scores. Some of these poodles have been shown in conformation as well and have earned AKC Certificates of Champion. She also trained her German Shepherd Dog, receiving dual awards with Ch. Heidi Ho of Ranier, CDX, PCE.

Shirley is a great believer that conformation and obedience not only can co-exist, but properly can compliment each other. Her "Delsen's" poodles breeding program has produced some of the top working poodles in the county with many of them having achieved obedience championships, Will Judy awards and a number of 200 scores, as well as many outstanding conformation specimens.

Her judging career, which began with AKC approval in 1971, has not only included the many AKC trials throughout the county, but also five Gaines Regional Championships in Florida, New Mexico, Utah, California and Nevada. Shirley currently trains for four obedience clubs and has held many offices, including President, Training Director, Scent Hurdle Team Captain and Show Secretary.

THE SELECT AWARD

Often at a National Specialty the number of quality dogs in competition far exceeds the number of top awards available. The judge must choose only one Best of Breed and one Best of Opposite Sex.

The awarding of a Select Rosette acknowledges that his animal was under consideration for Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex. The judge is indicating her recognition of an exceptional animal who could, on another day, merit a top award. The American Whippet Club allows for ten select awards to be presented in addition to Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex. The judge may, at her discretion, award all or none of the Rosettes. Receiving a Select Award is indeed a significant honor.
