Louis J. Pegram, Jr 1914-1986
If ever there was a complete Whippet man, it was Louis Pegram. He bred them and trained them, he showed them and ran them, but most of all he loved them...and taught others the many things that were to be admired in them. He introduced many a curious neophyte to the excitement of coursing, and few such events were held that he didn't manage to attend.
When it came to Whippets, Louis literally wrote the book. The Complete Whippet, published by the Howell Book House of New York City, is the one that veterans of the fancy as well as those brand new to the breed look to for information and advise.
When Louis Pegram died - on Memorial Day, 1986 - he still owned Whippets, still bred racing dogs, still had coursing in his blood. So we somehow feel he is with us today - cheering, as he always did, for the breed he fancied most.

All dogs for the 1988 Futurity must have been whelped on or before May 26, 1988. Bitches must be nominated while in whelp. Litter must be nominated before 3 months old and individuals may be nominated anytime after 3 months old and the closing of the Futurity (August 1, 1988).

Hound Hill owes its genesis to Larry Shaw of Kirklea and its broadened foundation to Doris Wear of Stoney Meadows and Peggy Newcombe of Pennyworth. They gave imaginatively of their advice and generously of their breeding stock and are in no way responsible for what happened after that !
By the time the Seventies rolled in, Whippets had wooed us away from other breed interests, (Afghans, Doberman Pinschers), and Hound Hill had settled into New England for the long challenge of breeding the creatures.
Our goals are simply stated. A beautiful, reasonably sound hound, (a Champion, right?) , keen to its original purpose with great athletic ability, (at least a Field Champion, maybe a LCM or even an ARM), intelligent and willing,(start with a CD) is all we have ever wanted. The Breed being kindly, we've even managed to produce a few dogs who loved to play the game and didn't object to the titles we hung on them all. And how not? We have such good times together !
