OBEDIENCE CHALLENGE TROPHIES
Unless otherwise specified, the Challenge trophies are offered for the highest scoring Whippet from the
regular Obedience classes. Challenge trophies are offered under the following conditions: To be won
three times by the same exhibitor, not necessarily with the same dog, for outright ownership. Dogs may
be owned by the handler or by any other person. Until won permanently, the trophy will remain in the
hands of the American Whippet Club.
THE DODGER CHALLENGE TROPHY: Brass with bronze overlay Whippet statue mounted on a wooden base with a plaque. Offered by Joan Lessor in honor of 3 time AWC High In Trial Winner Ch. U-CDX Deep Woods Light Brigade, UD.
JERSEY RAG RACERS ASSOCIATION Inc. offers a challenge trophy to the highest scoring Whippet
competing in an obedience trial regular or non-regular class that ALSO competes in a conformation
regular or non-regular class. Whippet statue on wooden base. JRRWA will provide an engraved picture
frame for permanent possession by the winner. NOTE: Dog must compete in the classes, not just be
entered.

MR. DAVID HADDOCK
David has been showing dogs since the mid 1970's during which time he acquired an Alaskan Malamute and owner-handled his way to an obedience title and breed championship. He later acquired Portuguese Water Dogs, handling one of the first PWDs to achieve both Breed Championship and Utility Dog titles.
He is President of the Nashville Dog Training Club, a member of The Westminster Kennel Club, and the Nashville Kennel Club.
He is approved to judge several breeds within the Working Group, as well as all Rally & Obedience classes.
RALLY
MS. MARINA CARO
I have owned, loved and trained Whippets for the past 7 years. I am actively involved in conformation, lure coursing, racing, agility, and rally obedience. I have also competed in AKC tracking and titled dogs in AKC traditional obedience, ASCA agility, and ASFA lure coursing. Prior to Whippets, I have owned and competed with many breeds such as the American Eskimo Spitz, Doberman, Italian Greyhound, Rhodesian Ridgeback and Pembroke Welsh Corgi. All of my dogs have taught me many valuable lessons in life, the most important being to live every day to the fullest and to never take yourself too seriously.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and moved to Nashville TN in 1997. I have been an active member of the Nashville Dog Training Club for the past 13 years. My husband, Tim, and I currently share our lives and home with 5 Whippets, 2 Italian Greyhounds, 1 Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Doberman Pinscher.
I have been actively involved in the sport of Rally Obedience for over 10 years and am extremely honored to be judging Rally Obedience at the AWC Nationals in Lexington, KY. I am wishing all of the exhibitors at the 2011 AWC Nationals a very successful and fun time in the Rally ring!!

I was born a dog lover but it was not until I found the whippet breed that I became a dog fancier. One Summer afternoon in 1997, I went to my first dog show and came home with a stallion of a whippet named Mitchell, who later became Sel Ch. Summit Court and Spark SC FCh.
My companionship with Mitchell led
me to try it all. He was a dog that wanted
to do it all and I wanted him to do it all.
Next thing I knew, I was showing a puppy
to a record 7 Best in Sweepstakes wins,
owner-handling an AWC Specialty Best in
Show winner, handling a dog to Multiple
Coursing Best in Fields, his AKC and ASFA
field championships while earning a spot
in the conformation top 20 all in the same
year, winning the stud dog class at the AWC
National Specialty, breeding/owning a #1
whippet who was an All-Breed Best in Show,
AWC Specialty Best in Show, Westminster Award of Merit and AWC Top 20 winner
and finally creating the AWC National Specialty The Daily Whippet publication,
chairing the AWC National Triathlon competition and finally officiating as an allbreed
ASFA lure coursing judge.
During my time away from the dog world, professionally I have worked as a Family Physician teaching in residency training programs at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and University of Southern California School of Medicine, earned a Master's in Public Health at Harvard University, worked as a student health physician and currently serve as a Board member for our local county board of health and am Medical Director for our local community-based clinic providing healthcare for the indigent and uninsured citizens of Vermilion County in East Central Illinois.
It's been a fascinating whirlwind 14 short years of appreciating the true versatility and athleticism of the whippet. I am flattered to be asked to judge the AWC Triathlon and Versatility conformation class. Imagine the pressure of judging a class that includes our most talented versatile whippets presented by our most dedicated whippet owners. How exciting to officiate over a competition full of whippets with Mitchell spirit! I am sure my late Mitchell will be helping me find the very best in our breed!

17th Annual AWC Triathlon
The AWC Triathlon competition was developed to recognize whippets that excel in three areas of
competition: conformation, lure coursing and obedience. The 17th annual competition is open to all
whippets entered in eligible Conformation, Obedience and Lure Coursing Stakes at the 2011 AWC
National Specialty in Lexington, KY. To acknowledge the dogs that excel in all three areas of competition,
there will be 10 placement awards.
CHALLENGE TROPHIES
The following Challenge Trophies are offered at the AWC National Specialty only and shall remain in the custody of the Club until permanently retired. For permanent possession, all Challenge Trophies must be won three times by the same owner or owners, not necessarily with the same dog.
TRIATHLON CHAMPION
JACK McMANUS MEMORIAL TROPHY, Whippet relief on wooden plaque with the Triathlon logo.Offered by Charlotte McManus and the American Whippet Club.
THE CORA N. MILLER TRIATHLON CHALLENGE TROPHY, a bas-relief bronze by Wendy Gay of three whippets coursing, stacked and holding a dumbbell. Mounted on a walnut base with individual plaques for the winners inscription. Offered in honor of Mrs. Cora Miller for her dedication and support of the AWC triathlon. A wooden engraved keeper plaque will be awarded to the winner each year. Offered by Friends of the AWC Triathlon.

AW C Versatility Competition
The AWC Versatility Competition was developed to recognize whippets that excel in four areas of competition: conformation, lure coursing, rally, and agility. The competition is open to all whippets entered in eligible conformation, rally, agility classes, and lure trial stakes offered at the 2011 AWC National Specialty in Lexington, Kentucky. Teams may enter both the Triathlon and the Versatility Competition.
VERSATI LITY COMPETITION AWAR DS AND TROPHIES
First Place in Versatility: Large Rosette and Silver Photo Album (The Calvin Prize)
Second through Tenth Place: Rosette
The Calvin Prize is awarded annually to the winner of the Versatility Competition in honor of BIF, DC, UGRCH, UAGII, UCD Appraxin Callaban Kristobel, CD, MC, LCM3, V-FCH, NA, NAJ, OJP, NAP, CGC, CAVX by Fred and Bobbie Lutz. It is a silver photo album with space for the winner to engrave their dog's name.
VERSATI LITY CHALLENGE TROPHIES
The following Challenge Trophies are offered at the AWC National Specialty only and shall remain in the custody of the Club until permanently retired. For permanent possession, all Challenge Trophies must be won three times by the same owner or owners, not necessarily with the same dog.
VERSATILITY COMPETITION CHAMPION – THE TJ CHALLENGE TROPHY, in honor of the first
winner of the AWC Versatility Competition (April 2007), DC Can. Ch. Belaya Cirquedusoleil SC
AX AXJ RN CGC FCh, Registered Therapy Dog. The trophy is awarded for the overall Winner of
the AWC Versatility Competition and is a wooden plaque with a solid brass bas-relief standing
Whippet and a brass plate for the engraving of each year's winner. Offered by Belaya Whippets,
Carol Chittum and Celeste Carter.
