AWC Versatility Competition
The AWC Versatility Competition was developed to recognize whippets that excel
in four areas of competition: conformation, lure coursing, rally, and agility. The
competition is open to all whippets entered in eligible conformation, rally, agility
classes, and lure trial stakes offered at the 2008 AWC National Specialty in Eugene, Oregon.

All teams that finish will receive a ribbon.

TD Wins First AWC Versatility Competition

The first AWC Versatility Competition took place in Eugene, Oregon this year. 5 dogs competed in 4 different sports: lure coursing, agility, rally, and conformation. Carol Chittum, Belaya Whippets, breeder/owner/handler of Versatility Competition winner TJ, reports that TJ finished his US and Canadian bench championships easily. TJ won the AWC National Field Trial 2005 in Phoenix, took third in his field champion stake this year at age 6 ½ as well as High Score Dual Champion and first place in Rally Novice B. Carol started agility at age 62. She initially thought to only to obtain novice agility titles on TJ but quickly caught the agility bug when TJ showed promise. TJ and Carol obtained the advanced AX and AXJ titles and have obtained MACH points towards an AKC agility championship. Carol reports that keeping fit enough to do agility is her biggest challenge and she recently worked through an injury. Carol is an inspiration to many as she shows multiple dogs in rally, agility, lure coursing, and conformation at age 66. Carol believes whippets must have good minds as well as being beautiful and athletic. She feels that the Versatility Competition is a test of those three values and that her win this year confirms that she is on the right track in her breeding program.
