NATIONAL SPECIALTY SHOW HOTEL RULES
These rules have been established for the good of all exhibitors.
As an exhibitor, be aware that violations of these rules may also be referred to the Bench
Show Committee, if written charges are preferred. If the Bench Show Committee upholds
such charges, it may lead to suspension from future show privileges. Charges may also be
filed with the AWC, which may lead to expulsion from the Club unless fair and equitable
claims are satisfied.
1 . Plastic sheeting must be placed under every crate in your hotel room to keep carpets
clean/ dry. Plastic sheeting will be available upon check in.
2. DOGS MUST BE CRATED WHEN THE OWNER/HANDLER IS OUT OF THE ROOM!! NO
EXCEPTIONS.
3. NO DOGS ALLOWED IN HOTEL LOBBY AREA.
4. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times while in the hotel or on the hotel grounds.
5. Dogs must be exercised in designated areas on the hotel premises. EVERY DOG
OWNER is expected to pick up after their dog(s) and dispose of the waste in provided
receptacles.
6. NO DOG MAY BE BATHED IN THE HOTEL.
7. Rooms must be kept clean of dog debris (chalk, hair, food, etc.). Please utilize

your dogs during your absence in case of a problem or emergency. Provide the front
desk with the name and room number of the person responsible for your dogs during
your absence. (Leaving your cell phone number is advisable.)
When moving into your hotel room, check it carefully. If there are problems or damage from
a prior guest, call the front desk. This will avoid any problems due to undetected from before
your arrival.
Important Reminder:
It is very important that we all do our best to maintain cleanliness with our dogs at our hotel.
There will be designated areas for exercising your dog(s). Don’t wait too long to get them
out. Go to the shortest route; take baggies with you in case of an accident. Do not walk away
from your dog’s mess. Demand others to clean up after their dogs. Please report someone
who is not observing the rules. Your cooperation and diligence will help to maintain our good
name with our host hotels.
A Bench Show Committee Meeting and Hearing will be called on anyone who abuses the
hotel. The AKC will back us if we have a problem. Report issues to any of the following
people: Sue Carbajal, Jackie Hubble or Lori Nelson. Please remember to use the plastic
sheeting under your crates. Bedspreads will be removed from rooms where dogs are to be
kept.
Very important note: The hotels will be removing bedspreads. They have made an exception
for our show for DOGS ONLY. Please leave all other pets at home as they will not be allowed
on hotel property – yes that includes being kept in your vehicle. Thank you!
NOTE: PLEASE BRING A SHEET FROM HOME TO COVER YOUR BED!!
GROOMING/STAGING AREA
There will be a separate room for crating and grooming dogs that are being exhibited on the
day. No exercise pens. All dogs must be removed from the crating room immediately after
the conclusion of judging each day.
CAUTION: Do not leave dogs in closed vehicles. A closed vehicle can rapidly overheat
with tragic consequences. In the event a vehicle must be entered to rescue a dog from
overheating or suffocation due to improper ventilation, all persons hereby waive any claim
for damages against the Club, its members or agents.
WHIPPET HEALTH FOUNDATION, INC.
HEALTH CLINIC INFORMATION
The Whippet Health Foundation will be conducting health clinics in conjunction with the
2008 AWC National Specialty. There will be a CERF, BAER and cardiac echocardiogram clinic
as well as AKC DNA Profile testing and Myostatin deficiency testing. The Whippet Health
Foundation will be subsidizing a portion of the per dog cost for BAER, cardiac and myostatin
testing for those dogs participating in the WHF database.
Test results from all clinics are confidential.
All test results released to the WHF Database will be public record.
HEALTH CLINIC SCHEDULE AT THE 2008 AWC NATIONAL
Eye Clinic: Wednesday , April 23rd. This clinic will be conducted by Dr. Sarah Maxwell, DVM,
ACVO. Cost is $25 per dog. The CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation ) exam is a once a year
test that examines your dogs eyes for inherited eye disease. The exam will require pupil dilation
and takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Sign up sheets for appointments will be available
starting Monday morning. The clinic will run from 9am until finished.
BAER Hearing Clinic: Wednesday morning, April 23rd. This clinic will be conducted by
Dr. Susanne Hughes. The cost is $45 per dog. The BAER (Brain stem Auditory Evoked Response)
test is a once per lifetime test to definitively determine if your dog can hear from both ears. The
test usually takes 10-15 minutes and sedation is not necessary. It is important for everyone to
have their Whippets checked, particularly animals used for breeding. It is possible for a dog to
be deaf in one ear and appear to have normal hearing. Sign up sheets for appointments will be
available starting Monday morning. If you are willing to enter both your dog and the BAER result
into the WHF database, we will subsidize $20 of your cost, so you will only pay $25. These results
will be acquired the day of the test.
Cardiac Echocardiogram Clinic: Tuesday , April 22nd and Thursday , April 24th.
This clinic will be conducted by Dr. Gary Wood of Cardiology Northwest. These results will not
be used in our ongoing whippet heart study. Thus no price breaks will be given to rechecks
from prior years. The cost of the exam is $175. If you are willing to enter both your dog and the
echocardiogram result into the WHF database, we will subsidize $75 of your cost, so you will only
pay $100. These results will be acquired the day of the test. Only one whippet will be allowed per
owner to pre-register.
AKC DNA Profile test: (DNA cheek swab test): $30/sample, mailed in with all samples following
the national. Swabs will be available during the national from either Dr. Lisa Costello or Dr. Connie
Brunkow
Myostatin Deficiency test: (DNA test for the double muscle gene): $48/sample ($28 for
database participants), mailed in with all samples following the national. Swabs will be available
during the national from Dr. Lisa Costello. She will also be attending the race meet in Beavercreek
the day following the conclusion of the AWC national. If you will not be attending the national, the
swabs from DDC and payment can be mailed directly to Dr. Costello and will be submitted with all
samples following the national specialty (they must be submitted together). These samples must
reach her at the address on the health clinic sign up form no later than APRIL 30th, 2008. If you
will not be attending the AWC national and need to order sample collection kits directly, call 1-800-
625-0874, or email contact@vetdnacenter.com.
Deadline to Pre-Register is April 16th, 2008.
