Dogs may arrive at any time prior to judging. Dogs not required for further judging will be excused. All dogs must be removed immediately after Best in Breed Judging.
Prizes: Trophies, certificates, ribbons and prizes will be awarded in the ring to the person exhibiting the dog who shall be considered the owner or agent. All claims for prizes must be made in the judging ring before the completion of judging and the Show Secretary advised at once of any discrepancy.
PLEASE KEEP THE GROUNDS CLEAN. You are responsible for picking up after your own dogs. All dogs must remain on lead at all times.
SCHEDULE OF POINTS FOR DIVISION 1 - EFFECTIVE MAY 16, 2005
Division 1 includes Massachussets.
The Points towards a Championship shall be awarded to the Winners Dog and Bitch of each breed or variety based on the actual number of dogs or bitches competing in that breed or variety.
If the dog designated Winners Dog or winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of both sexes that have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety competition and that have been defeated in such competition, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.
If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of its own sex that have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety Competition that have been defeated in competition for Best of Opposite Sex, Shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.
After points have been computed for Winners Dog and Winners Bitch subject to the above stipulations, the dog awarded the Best of Winners shall be credited with the number of points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater.
In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, or that is dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge, or from which all awards are withheld shall not be included. Any dog which shall have won fifteen points shall become a Champion of record, if six or more of said points shall have been won at two shows with a rating of three or more championship points each and under two different judges, and some one or more of the balance of said points shall have been won under some other judge or judges than the two judges referred to above.

Veterinary Assistance from AWC Members
Please remember that Veterinarians attending the AWC national may not be licensed to perform services or dispense medication in the state where the national is being held. They are not hired as on-site Veterinarians for the specialty. they are attending on vacation. If your dog or dogs have an injury or illness and you do receive help from a Veterinarian-Exhibitor at the National Specialty. please be sure to offer that person payment for services rendered and/or medication dispensed.
Grooming/Staging Area
There will be a separate room for crating and grooming dogs that are being exhibited on the day. No Exercise Pens. All dogs must be removed from the crating room immediately after the conclusion of judging each day.
CAUTION: Do not leave dogs in closed vehicles. A closed vehicle can rapidly overheat with tragic consequences. In the event a vehicle must be entered to rescue a dog from overheating or suffocation due to improper ventilation, all persons hereby waive any claim for damages against the Club. or its members or agents.
National Specialty Show Hotel Rules
These rules have been established for the good of all exhibitors. As an exhibitor, be aware that violations of these rules may also be referred to the Bench Show Committee, if written charges are preferred. If the Bench Show Committee upholds such charges, it may lead to suspension from future show privileges. Charges may also be filed with the AWC, which may lead to expulsion from the Club unless fair and equitable claims are satisfied.
1. Plastic sheeting must be placed under every crate in your hotel room to keep carpets clean! dry. Plastic sheeting will be available upon check in.
2.DOGS MUST BE CRATED WHEN THE OWNER/HANDLER IS OUT OF THE ROOM!! NO EXCEPTIONS.
3. NO DOGS ALLOWED IN HOTEL LOBBY AREA.
4.Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times while in the hotel or on the hotel grounds.
5.Dogs must be exercised in designated areas on the hotel premises. EVERY DOG OWNER is expected to pick up after their dog(s) and dispose of the waste in provided receptacles.
6. NO DOG MAY BE BATHED IN THE HOTEL.
7.Rooms must be kept clean of dog debris (chalk, hair, food, etc.). Please utilize Grooming Room for your grooming (chalking. clipping. etc.)
8.Rooms will be inspected daily by members of the hotel staff. Any observed violations or damages will be reported to hotel management and/or the Investigating Committee.
9. Do not Disturb signs will not be honored for the entire day by the hotel staff.
10. The Investigating Committee. working with a fair and equitable system, is in charge of investigating complaints.
11. Each dog owner/room registrant is expected to cooperate with the Investigating Committee. All owners/room registrants will settle damage claims immediately and to the hotel management's satisfaction.
12. Should the hotel. for cause. deem it necessary to cancel room privileges, the registrant agrees to hold harmless and withhold any legal action against the AWC and it's committees, the host club, or the hotel. This is a condition of entry to the National Specialty.
13. Exercise pens will be allowed only in designated areas.
14. If you are leaving the hotel property and are leaving dogs crated in your room. please arrange with another exhibitor who is remaining at the show site to be responsible for your dogs during your absence in case of a problem or emergency. Provide the front desk with the name and room number of the person responsible for your dogs during your absence. (Leaving your cell phone number is advisable.)
When moving into your hotel room. check it carefully. If you find that there are problems or damage from a prior guest. call the front desk. This could save you any problems should this damage have gone undetected before you check in. Important Reminder:
It is very important that we all do our best to maintain cleanliness with our dogs at our hotel. There will be designated areas for exercising your dog(s). Don't wail too long to get them out. Go to the shortest route; take baggies with you in case of an accident. Do not walk away from your dog's mess. Demand others to clean up after their dogs. Please report someone who is not observing the rules. Your cooperation and diligence will help to maintain our good name with our host hotels.
A Bench Show Committee Meeting and Hearing will be called on anyone who abuses our hotel. The AKC will back us if we have a problem. Inform any of the following people: Cindy Scott, Jeffrey Kimmelman or Lori Nelson. Please remember to use the plastic sheeting under your crates. Bedspreads will be removed from rooms where dogs are to be kept. Very important note: The hotels will be removing bedspreads. They have made an exception for our show for DOGS ONLY. Please leave all other pets at home as they will not be allowed on hotel property - yes that includes being kept in your vehicle. Thank you!

THE SELECT AWARD
Often at a National Specialty the number of quality dogs in competition far exceeds the number of top awards avail able. The judge must choose only one Best of Breed and one Best of Opposite Sex. The awarding of a Select Ro sette acknowledges that the animal was under consideration for Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex. The judge is indicating their recognition of an exceptional animal who could. on another day, merit a top award.
The American Whippet Club allows for ten Select Awards to be presented in addition to Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex. The judge may, at their discretion, award all or none of the rosettes. Receiving a Select Award is in deed a significant honor.

PREFACE: The sport of purebred clog competitive events dates prior to 1884 the year of AKC's birth. shared values of those involved in the sport include principles of sportsmanship. They are practiced in all sectors of our sports conformation, performance and companion. Many believe that these principles of sportsmanship are the prime reason why our sport has thrived for over one hundred years. with the belief that it is useful to periodically articulate the fundamentals of our sport, this code is presented.

Sportsmen respect the history, traditions and integrity of the sport of purebred dogs.

Sportsmen commit themselves to values of fair play, honesty, courtesy, and vigorous competition, as well as winning and losing with grace.

Sportsmen refuse to compromise their commitment and obligation to the sport of purebred dogs by injecting personal advantage or consideration into their decisions or behavior.

The sportsman judge judges only on the merits of the dogs and considers no other factors.

The sportsman judge or exhibitor accepts constructive criticism.

The sportsman exhibitor declines to enter or exhibit under ajudge where it might reasonably appear that the judge's placements could be based on something other than the merits of the dogs.

The sportsman exhibitor refuses to compromise the impartiality of a judge.

Donors contributing $1001 to $3000 will receive a Whippet Health Foundation gold Helping Hand pin. Donors contributing $3001 or more will receive a Whippet Health Foundation gold with diamond Helping Hand pin. Amounts are cumulative until the premium amount has been reached. In addition, all contributions will be acknowledged in the WHIPPET NEWS.
