6 th TRIATHLON
2000 AWC NATIONAL TRIATHLON RULES AND SCORING The scoring the Triathlon is based on scores earned in the following thee events:
Obedience, Lure Coursing and Conformation. Each of the three events will have a possible 100 points base score. The total scores for all three events will be added together, along with any bonus points earned by the dog. The dog with the highest point total will be declared the 2000 Triathlon Champion. Spayed and neutered Whippets are eligible to compete in classes which allow such.
OBEDIENCE: The score for the Obedience Event is one-half of the total points earned in the Obedience Trial Class ( or 100 points maximum). NOTE: Unqualified scores are tallied but do not count toward bonus points.
CONFORMATION: The score for the Triathlon Conformation Event is determined by the judge's evaluation of that dog in the Triathlon Conformation Class and is recorded on the Conformation Score Sheet (100 points maximum).
LURE COURSING: The score for the Lure Coursing Event is one-quarter of the total score awarded by the two judges for the preliminary and final courses (or 100 points maximum).
VETERAN COMPETITION: Bonus points are awarded for placements in Conformation Classes but in the Veteran Classes there is only a first place awarded. There are two ways to earn bonus points in the Veteran Classes:
If you win 1 st place in a Veteran Class in regular conformation you will earn 12 bonus points. If you win ANY placement in a Veteran Sweepstakes Class you can earn:
1st = 12 Points
2 nd = 8 Points
3rd = 5 Points
4th = 3 points
You can only use ONE of the methods listed above.
BONUS POINTS
Each dog (in addition to their actual Triathlon score) will be eligible for a maximum of 20 bonus points in each of three events. See the bonus points offered below. If a dog qualified for more than one bonus point category in any one event, he will only be awarded the higher bonus points. Example: A dog wins first in a Lure Coursing Stake (15 points) and goes BOB (20). He is awarded the higher points (20). He can still earn two more sets of bonus points, one for Conformation and one for Obedience

Special note: In order to earn bonus points in Conformation you must defeat at least one other dog in your class. Only qualifying scores are eligible for bonus points in Obedience.
The Bettie Crawford Memorial Perpetual Trophy
This bronze trophy was created by renowned artist Garry Newton and depicts a Whippet head study, with rosette, lure wrapping around a pulley, and dumbbell, which represent the three events of the Triathlon. The 12"-14" trophy is mounted on a wooden base and the name of each winner will be engraved on the attached plaque.
The work was commissioned by the owners of the Whippet-L e-mail list and the friends and family of Bettie Crawford in recognition of her support of the list's mission to promote the versatile, multi-purpose Whippet. Bettie, a charter subscriber of the Whippet-L list, passed away in January 1999. She was a well-respected breeder of Collies (Celestial Collies), Whippet owner, and judge. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The trophy is being presented for the first time at the 2000 AWC National Specialty in Greensburg, PA to the Winner of the Triathlon. It will remain the possession of the AWC until it has been won three times by the same owner, not necessarily with the same dog. A 6" bronze medallion will be presented to the winner each year for permanent possession.

Denise Thomas - Agility Judge
I have been involved in showing dogs since the age of 9. I had several HIT dogs, a Ch/UD springer and several top ranked group winnings springers in breed for many years before discovering agility. I have titled many breeds of dogs in agility but mainly show my aussies and smooth fox terriers. My aussie Adch Hannah, AXJ, MXJ was 3 rd at AKC agility nationals this year. I have been judging agility for about 4 years now and really enjoy traveling the country and meeting all the agility enthusiasts wherever I go.
