SCHEDULE OF POINTS FOR DIVISION 1 - EFFECTIVE MAY 16, 1995
Division 1 is comprised of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut , New York
The Points towards a Championship shall be awarded to the Winners Dog and Bitch of each breed or variety based on the actual number of dogs or bitches competing in that breed or variety.
If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of both sexes that have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety competition and that have been defeated in such competition, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.
If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed or Variety. the dogs of its own sex that have been entered for Best of Breed o r . .Variety competition that have been defeated in competition for Best of Opposite Sex, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.
After points have been computed for Winners Dog and Winners Bitch subject to the above two stipulations, the dog awarded the Best of Winners shall be credited with the number of points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater.
In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, or that is dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge, or from which all awards are withheld shall not be included. Any dog which shall have won fifteen points shall become a Champion of Record, if six or more of said points shall have been won at two shows with a rating of three or more championship points each and under two different judges, and some one or more of the balance of said points shall have been won under some other judge or judges than the two judges referred to above.

What a wonderful honor to be the judge for the Veterans' Sweepstakes! I've been involved in our fabulous Whippet breed for almost thirty years, so I'm a bit of a veteran myself.
I obtained my first Whippet in 1968, and with very limited breeding, I have had some success under the "Willcare" name. I now live with two Whippets; a twelve year old and a six year old.
I truly love Whippets, young and old, but I think my favorites are the oldsters. I usually get teary when I see their pride, attitude, and overall demeanor.
Many thanks for this privilege. I'll try to stay as dry-eyed as possible.
KENNETH BUXTON
Ken has been active in the dog fancy since 1966 when he, with his wife Donna, purchased their first St. Bernard. He has been active as a breeder, trainer and exhibitor in conformation, obedience and tracking. He trained two Saints to their UDT Titles, one being the only Saint in the history of the breed to be a Champion UDT.
In 1976, Ken was first approved to judge obedience and now approved to judge all obedience and tracking classes, plus the Working and Herding Groups and 3/4 of the Non-Sporting Breeds.
He retired in 1995 and was an accounting manager with a large equipment manufacturer. He is also licensed to sell real estate in the State of Ohio. He has owned St. Bernards for the last 30 years and dogs as pets all of his life, including a Boxer, Mastiff, Siberian Husky and mixed breeds.
Most of Ken's club activities have been with the Queen City Dog Training Club and Clermont County Kennel Club near Cincinnati, Ohio. He served as Board Member, Show Chairman, President and Director of Training for both clubs, and served on the Board of the St. Bernard Club of America. Donna & Ken and three Saints live near Loveland , Ohio ; a small community about 20 miles Northeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. Their son, Kevin, just recently graduated from Purdue University and is a pilot with a charter flying service.
JULIE HOLM
The year was 1964. As it so happened, the "Beatles" were appearing in the San Diego Balboa Stadium and the next day was the Silver Bay Kennel Club Show. My daughter, age eleven, and I went to see the Beatles and my sister (Joan Frailey) went to a Boxer club meeting that night. The next day at the dog show my daughter and I happened to see these skinny little dogs in the ring and fell in love with them at first sight. We told Joan "again" that no, we did not want a Boxer, we wanted to get a Whippet. Well, we did! I guess you know the rest of the story. We were hooked for life. We purchased our first Whippets; "Ch. Stoney Meadows Frosty Queen", and "Ch. Stoney Meadows Royal Fortune", from Doris Wear in December of 1964. Joan and I became "Terrace Hill Whippets". Over the past 31 years, we have shown and bred numerous champions, group and best in show winners. Between our stud dogs and brood bitches, they have produced over 100 champions. My daughter, at age 12, showed Frosty Queen in Junior Showmanship and in the Specials class. She won many Best of Breeds and Group Firsts. Our bitch, Ch. Terrace Hill Bewitched, was a group winner and I,(the worst handler ever), showed her to an all-breed Best in Show.
My life has changed over the past 15 years with judging and four grandchildren, but Whippets are still my favorite breed.

The following Challenge Trophies are offered at the AWC National Specialty only and shall remain in the custody of the Club until permanently retired. For permanent possession, all Challenge Trophies must be won three times by the same owner or owners, not necessarily with the same dog.
