SCHEDULE OF POINTS FOR DIVISION 7 - EFFECTIVE JUNE 15, 1992

Division 1 is comprised of: Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona

The Points towards a Championship shall be awarded to the Winners Dog and Bitch of each breed or variety based on the actual number of dogs or bitches competing in that breed or variety.

If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of both sexes Mat have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety competition and that have been defeated in such competition, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.

If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of its own sex that have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety competition that have been defeated in competition for Best of Opposite Sex, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.

After points have been computed for Winners Dog and Winners Bitch subject to the above two stipulations, the dog awarded the Best of Winners shall be credited with the number of points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater.

In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, or that is dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge, or from which all awards are withheld shall not be included. Any dog which shall have won fifteen points shall become a Champion of Record, if six or more of said points shall have been won at two shows with a rating of three or more championship points each and under two different judges, and some one or more of the balance of said points shall have been won under some other judge or judges Man the two judges referred to above.

THE OFFICIAL STANDARD OF THE WHIPPET

General Appearance
A medium size sighthound giving the appearance of elegance and fitness, denoting great speed, power and balance without coarseness. A true sporting hound that covers a maximum of distance with a minimum of lost motion. should convey an Impression of beautifully balanced muscular power and strength, combined with great elegance and grace of outline. Symmetry of outline, muscular development and powerful gait are the main considerations; the dog being built for speed and work, all forms of exaggeration should be avoided.

Size, Proportion, Substance
Ideal height for dogs, 19 to 22 Inches, for bitches, 18 to 21 Inches, measured at the highest point of the withers. One-half inch above or below the stated limits will disqualify. Length from forehead to knocks equal to or slightly greater than height at the withers. Moderate bone throughout.

Head
Keen intelligent alert expression.
Eyes large and dark. Both eyes must be of the same color. Yellow or light eyes should be strictly penalized. Blue or wall eyes shall disqualify. Fully pigmented eyelids are desirable. Rose ears, small, fine In texture; in repose, thrown back and folded along neck. Fold should be maintained when at attention erect ears should be severely penalized.
Skull long aid lean, fairly wide between the ears, scarcely perceptible stop. Muzzle should be long and powerful, denoting great strength of bite, withal coarseness. Lack of underjaw should be strictly penalized. Nose entirely black.
Teeth of upper jaw should fit closely over teeth of lower law creating a scissors bite. Teeth should be white and strong. Undershot shall disqualify. Overshot one-quarter inch or more shall disqualify.

Neck, Topline, Body
Neck long, clean and muscular, well arched with no suggestion of throatiness, widening gracefully into the top of the shoulder. A short thick neck, or a ewe neck, should be penalized. The back is broad, firm and well muscled, having length over the loin. The backline runs smoothly from the withers with a graceful natural arch, not too accentuated, beginning over the loin and carrying through over the croup; the arch is continuous withal flatness. A dip behind shoulder blades, wheelback, flat back or a steep or flat croup should be penalized.
Brisket very deep, reacting as nearly as possible to the point of the elbow. R ibs well sprung but with no suggestion of barrel shape. The space between the forelegs if filled in so that there is no appearance of a hollow between them. There is a definite tuckup of the underline. The tail long and tapering, reaching to the hipbone when drawn through between the hind legs. When the dog is in motion, the tail is carried low with only a gentle upward curve, tail should not- be carried higher than top of back.

Forequarters
Shoulder blade long, well laid back, with flat muscles, allowing for moderate space between shoulder blades at peak of withers. Upper arm of equal length, placed so that the elbow falls directly under the withers. The points of the elbows should point neither in nor but straight back. A steep shoulder, short upper arm, a heavily muscled or loaded shoulder, or a very narrow shoulder, all of which restrict low free movement, should be strictly penalized. Forelegs straight, giving appearance of strength and substance of bone. Pasterns strong, slightly bent and flexible. Bowed legs, tied in elbows, legs lacking substance, legs set far under the body so as to create and exaggerated forechest, weak or wilt pasterns should be strictly penalized. Both front and read feet must be well formed with hard, thick pads. Feet more hare than cat, but both are acceptable. Flat, splayed or soft feet without thick hard pads should be strictly penalized. Toes should be long, close, and well arched. Nails strong and naturally short or of moderate length. Dewclaws may be removed.

Hindquarters
Long and powerful. The thighs are broad and muscular, stifles well bent; muscles are long and fiat and carry well down toward the hock. The hocks are well let down and close to the ground. Sickle or cow hocks should be strictly penalized.

Coat
Short, close, smooth and firm in texture. Any other coast shall be a disqualification. Old scars and injuries, the result of work or accident, should not be allowed to prejudice the dog's chance in the show ring.

Color
Color immaterial.

Gait
Low, free moving and smooth, with reach in the forequarters arid strong drive in the hindquarters. The dog has great freedom of action when viewed from the side; the forelegs move forward close to the ground to give a long low reach; the hind legs have strong propelling power. When moving and viewed from front or rear, legs should be neither in nor out, nor should feet cross or interfere with each other.
Lack of front reach or rear drive, or a short, hackney gait with high wrist action, should be strictly penalized. Crossing in front or moving too close should be strictly penalized.

Temperament
Amiable, friendly, gentle, but capable of great intensity during sporting pursuits.

Disqualifications.
One-half inch above or below stated height limits.
Blue or wall eyes.
Undershot, overshot one-quarter inch or more.
Any coat other than short, close, smooth and firm in texture.

MRS. PHILIP FELL
(Veteran Sweepstakes)

Betty Fell, Badgewood, bought her first Whippet from the Shearers' Meander Kennels in 1952. This certainly qualifies her as one of the Veteran Members of the American Whippet Club. She has judged in Canada, the Netherlands, and in England where she judged many Championship Shows including LKA, Windsor and WELKS. In this country, Mrs. Fell is AKC approved to judge the Hound Group as well as breeds in the Sporting, Terrier and Toy Groups.

During her years on the American Whippet Club's Board of Directors, she has held almost every office, including multiple terms as President. She is overjoyed to judge the first AWC Veterans' Sweepstakes.

MRS. LORRAINE GROSHANS
(Regular Classes)

Though as a child, Mrs. Groshans owned several pure bred Cocker Spaniels, it wasn't until 1954 that she purchased her first registered dog, a standard Dachshund of Kleetal breeding named Fraulein Bustlebottom. This Doxie was followed by a Borzoi, Arlekeen of Frontier and a Whippet, Stoney Meadows Marietta. These were the only breeds shown and bred at Loral, however, Loral also exhibited an English Foxhound, two Afghan Hounds,

a Miniature Pinscher, a Silky Terrier, three Italian Greyhounds, a German Wirehaired Pointer, a Golden Retriever and a Brittany.

Presently Mrs. Groshans is a member of the American Whippet Club, the Borzoi Club of America, of which she is a past president, Lehigh Valley Kennel Club (for whom she has also served as President), and Durham Kennel Club. She is the author of "The Complete Borzoi", published by Howell House, and has served as a member of the AKC slide/video committee on Borzoi and Afghans.

Approved to judge in 1969, she is currently approved to judge all Hounds, Italian Greyhounds, Silkies, Griffons, all Setters and all Pointers.

She is now living in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she maintains a retirement home for four Borzoi, seven Whippets and one cat.

MRS. GINGER PUGH
(Obedience)

Mrs. Pugh's obedience career started in 1964 with the purchase of a parti-colored Cocker Spaniel who, unfortunately, turned out to be monorchid. Finishing his Utility degree in four shows, he was Top Scoring Cocker Spaniel for two years in a row, and caused her addiction to dog shows. In 1968 she applied to judge obedience, is now approved to judge all obedience classes, and since 1968 has taught obedience.

Additionally, she owned a High In Trial English Springer, who was the Top Scoring Springer for two years. With encouragement from the local Springer club, she entered him in conformation, and finished him with three five point majors. He became a Champion Utility dog and lived, as did the Cocker, to be 16 years old. Following her Springer's death, Mrs. Pugh felt her heavy judging schedule didn't leave time for another dog. However, after three years of watching Corgis, she acquired the charming Corgi in the picture, who has taken over her life. Mrs. Pugh says, "In 1991 I judged 40 shows, put 11 points on him, finishing him the first time out in 1992 with his fourth 3 point major. Now we are back to obedience and tracking.

MRS. LUCILE RIGGS
(Obedience)

Mrs. Riggs trained her first Miniature Schnauzer from Novice through to Utility -- all by herself from a book! He went on to five High in Trials. She has been a member of the Dallas Obedience Training Club since 1972, serving as Show Chairman for 14 years, and as Training Director for seven. Additionally, she has been Obedience Show/Match Chairman for the Greater Collin Kennel Club since 1979.

She has finished 24 breed Champions and holds 38 titles, including Canadian/American titles, on her Giant, Miniature or Standard Schnauzers. Several of her Giants have been in the Top Ten Working Dogs. Since 1975 she has been a member of both the Lone Star Miniature Schnauzer Club and the Giant Schnauzer Club of America, holding a wide variety of offices in each.

Currently she owns two Champion Giant Schnauzer dogs and one Champion Standard Schnauzer bitch who is being worked in Novice B, and has one qualifying score toward her CD.
