In, 2000, a charter group of fifteen Arizona Whippet lovers had a vision for a Whippet Club in Arizona, and the AzWA was born, its membership now exceeds 65 members hailing from locations statewide.
Since AzWA’s inception, we have held ASFA trials, educational seminars and an annual “fun” day with games and a pot luck, that brings Whippet lovers together to relax and enjoy our dogs. A bi-monthly newsletter provides a vital club link. AzWA supports the Whippet entry in Scottsdale with sweepstakes, trophies and hospitality tent for Whippet people to eat and socialize.
In 2005, the AZWA welcomed the Whippet fancy to Arizona for the AWC 19th National Specialty chaired by AzWA club secretary, Rhonda Gifford. AzWA members worked tirelessly on each detail and event to make it a pleasure for attendees, and they participated in all aspects, many members being committee chairs, our members whose Whippets are ‘champion couch potatos’ pitched in forming a production line that stuffed 500 exhibitor bags. It was the AzWA members’ pleasure to take this active role!
AzWA’s application has been submitted for regular status, and AzWA’s sights are set on an Independent Whippet Specialty in 2006. Our first AKC fun trial is scheduled and AKC coursing is now on the horizon as well. We will be hope to see you in Arizona.

2005 was a wonderful year for our winning boy, Rocco! With many Group placements and Breed over Specials wins, Rocco thanks all of the judges who have recognized his beautiful movement, style and personality. His gorgeous front, sidegait, layback and overall soundness have impressed many. Thanks also to the many friends and supporters he gained over the year. He has enjoyed every minute of his time in the ring, week in and week out. Special thanks to his best friend, Holley Eldred, who handled him - they were a fabulous team in the ring. Holley took him to the top 20 in less than a year, along with the Eukanuba Invitational. We are proud of them both! Rocco has been a joy - we look forward to showing his offspring in the near future.
