The Northern California Whippet Fanciers Association held an independent specialty on Saturday, October 22, 2005 in Pleasanton, CA. There was an entry of 60 in the Specialty, 23 in the Sweepstakes and 3 in the Obedience Trial.

The Southern California Whippet Association held its 21st Independent Specialty Show at The Oaks/Blenheim Exhibition Equestrian Center located in San Juan Capistrano, California on May 13, 2005. There was an entry of 77 whippets, with Dr. Connie S. Brunkow judging 30 class dogs, 41 class bitches and 6 specials. Ms. Shellie Juden judged 28 in Sweepstakes.

Margo completed her championship with three majors including two AWC supported entry BOW awards, a group placement, and Best Puppy at the 2004 AWC North Central Specialty. Ch. Oxford Victory At Rusalka Harrison finished with Best of Breed awards and Group placements from the classes. He garnered a 5 point major win at the AWC North Central Specialty cluster. Fonda finished “perfectly” with some big wins, including a five-point BOW at the AWC supported St. Croix show under sighthound judge Sandra Frei and another big win at the Old Fort Cluster under Ms. Julie Holm (pictured) to finish. To quote one judge “... a dark brindle bitch who was extremely confident. She moved with a fierce determination. Best mover the entire day. I’d hate to be the bunny!...”

At fourteen years young, she is still going strong!
What can I say about the “love of my life”, but a great big thank you to Sharon R. Sakson and Dr. Michael Hunter Holderman by allowing me to become Machie’s mom fourteen years ago.
I’ll never forget the day Machie came to live at my home in the summer of 1992. This elegant nine month old brindle bitch became part of a trio of dogs, with two beautiful Dobermans named Vickie and Louie. They all bonded instantly.
After practicing daily and attending handling classes, I struggled in the show ring as an owner-handler. Then a wonderful lady named Juanita Irwin (Whippoorwill) took the lead and the two took off. There was no stopping my graceful Machie as she literally floated around the ring catching the judges’ hearts. Nine months later we had a “New Champion”. Other friends who have contributed to her successful career are Kim Strong, Ken Wheeler and Dr. Barbara Henderson.
I did put the first BOB on her which has been one of the most exciting moments of my life.
Now, at the age of fourteen, Machie still rules the household.
After at least six breast tumor surgeries, my precious baby is still healthy and as playful as a puppy. I thank God daily for the blessing of Machie’s good health and vigor.
Machie is currently being shown in various veteran’s classes throughout the year.
We would like to thank all of our friends for their gracious applause and love as they watch this phenomenal old girl still strut her stuff in the show ring.
Also thank you to Juanita for her heartfelt tears, as she still continues to be part of a team with Machie.
Watch for Machie at the 2006 Nationals.

Bitterblue’s LSH Chiquita, one of our LaManchas, going Gch in 5 of her 6 shows, with a Best In Show (and best udder) thrown in for good measure. Her half sister, CH. Bitterblue’s LSH Phantom, received a BIS the weekend before. We were also pleased with Chiquita’s daughter, Velveeta, who won at the AGS nationals as junior champion and our senior herdsire, *B Winterwood’s M Dartangian, as the national champion buck. It was a busy year for
the Whippets and LaManchas alike!

“SERA” is hard for the breeder-judges to ignore, as evidenced by the four point major awarded her at a supported entry weekend in 2005, under judge Lori Nelson (Wildfire). “Sera” just floats in the show ring and her classic whippet head and eyes are to die for.
