Back issues of the AWC Whippet News Annual can be purchased for $25.00 each ($30.00 foreign), which includes shipping; all funds must be U.S. dollars, payable by check or money order to Whippet Annual. Mail to: Wendy Clark, WNAnnual Editor, 5088 Breckenhurst Dr., Hilliard, OH 43026 USA.

On 3/17/05, with a very heavy heart, I had to let our beloved grand dam Hanna cross the Rainbow Bridge just short of her 15th birthday; her presence here cannot be replaced. A fast growing nasal tumor forced the decision; Hanna never was an “old dog” physically or mentally and was the best dam, grand dam and sweetest companion I could ever imagine...our perfect Whippet. Run fast and free beautiful girl - we miss you terribly!

I owned a son of Hanna’s (Simply A Sandtrap, CD, by Am.Can.Ch. Flippets Azra’s Sir Olaf, CD) when Hanna came to us in 1993 from her owner, Linda Mandlebaum. Hanna was our foundation and we treasured every day we had with her. She started her coursing career at age 6 and finished her ASFA Field Championship in short order, but had a career ending non-coursing injury which required all the bones in her right front leg to be plated and fused.

(Ch. Surrey Hill’s Firing Line, FCh. x Ch. Surrey Hill’s Dawn Treader, FCh., ROMX)

It is with the greatest of pride that we share this favorite photo of one of our all-time favorite dogs, Pungo, along with three of his young daughters. Many thanks to Lesley Merrill for deciding to breed her Rush/Sanibel daughter, Surrey Hill Silkrock Lydia, to Pungo. Their pedigree is very special to us and we know these beautiful girls will be key to our furture.

Surrey Hill’s Glenmorangie “Maura”

“Maura”, at 14 months, boasted both majors in showing and 4.5 ARX points in racing. As a puppy she won the CWA Annual Match over a large entry, including many champions and major-pointed adults. Maura is a petite beauty of exceptional soundness and keenness. Maura represents our ideal in type, temperament and athleticism.

And Maura’s sisters at Kentruth ~

Kentruth Auschentoshen “Uma”

Uma has several point wins to her credit, numerous reserves from the Puppy Class, and is also an AWC Supported Entry class winner over a large and beautiful entry at the Eastern Specialty. Watch for this long, smooth-moving beauty at Southeastern shows in 2006!

Kentruth Ardberg Provenance “Barra”

Barra is a Best Puppy in Show winner and multi-Puppy Group 1 winner. She won her first points in November under judge Robert Forsythe. What a pretty Whippet girl!

Ch. Morshor’s Majestic Prince, JC, ROMX x Ch. Locar’s Show Off
Bred by Carol Curry - Locar

From the moment she arrived in my life as a seven week old puppy, Julia was simultaneously exasperating and delightful. The smartest dog I’ve ever had, she managed to arrange all our lives to her liking and her woof was our command. Julia was a dog of indomitable will who loved her people, loved all food, loved her puppies and loved to hunt. She was the dam of champions and dual champions and you can always identify her descendants by their inheritance of her laser-sharp skills of unmaking the beds and levitating to steal delicacies off counters and tables. Julia was a fun, challenging and thoroughly wonderful whippet who graced my life for over sixteen years. I am so thankful that Carol let me have the “little dark one” all those years ago. She will be missed.

Grand Prix’s American Pie

Shown only three times in 2005, our most beautiful Pie received a Select Award at the SCWA Specialty event. She also was awarded Best Brood Bitch, with two of her children from her first litter helping her out. This intense wild woman also enjoyed some coursing and racing in 2005, but not enough to satisfy her!

Three of the ten kids out of her litter by Ch. Hamrya’s Honey Beee, JC, ROM (co-bred and whelped/raised by Wendy Gay and the Grand Prix gang) started on their competitive careers in 2005.

Can. Ch. Grand Prix’s Honey Pie
Tilly gained her Canadian champion-ship in the spring and will be campaigned in the U.S. in the new year. This glamorous creamsicle brindle girl will probably be making tracks in coursing and obedience in the future. Tilly is owned and loved by Donna O’Toole and litter co-breeder Wendy Gay.

Milescross French Silk, JC
Pie’s teeny and adorable daughter, Imari, who lives here, started race training in late ‘05 and we think she will be a real pocket rocket, if we can ever teach her to come out of the box the right way. This most enthusiastic runner is looking forward to lots of coursing in 2006.

Grand Prix’s American Pie
Pie’s firstborn son, Lenox, was awarded his first points in ‘05. He is an easy mover who reminds us very much of his handsome sire. Lenox is an original happy face and his goofy joie de vivre always makes us smile - win or lose. Lenox is co-owned by me with Wendy Gay and Delia Zarges. He is pictured here at 16 months.

Pie will be bred to her lovely cousin, Grand Prix’s Seraphic, SC, in 2006. I am anticipating beautiful, keen brindles, arriving sometime in May.

Ch. Idover Perfect Gentleman x Ch. Milescross Elandan Sonnet, SC

Our “Golden Boy” turned seven in December and he is still going strong. Troy’s smooth movement and moderate type enabled him to finish his show championship easily as a youngster. He is a consistent, clean runner and is still enjoying keeping up with the young kids at the lure trials and races. He looks forward to working on his MC and DPC and getting back in the show ring as a veteran in 2006.

Troy is CERF clear, thyroid and cardiac normal. Hips OFA Good.
