Carina started her coursing career shortly after her first birthday. So far, she has received her LCM2! Carina is also listed as #4 Whippet in the ASFA top twenty as of 10/05. She has been running against the first and second place dogs and frequently places over them. And all at the ripe old age of 17 months old!
I want to thank her great owner, Michelle Bernier, for her success. It wouldn’t be possible without Michelle and Jeff to have gotten Carina this far.

The 2004 Annual, 345 pages of our magnificent Whippets, interspersed with color ads, and articles was certainly an ‘05 highlight. A hearty thanks to Wendy Clark for her commitment and excellence in the production of the AWC Annual. The Arizona sun welcomed the 2005 Whippet National, judged by Anne Clark, assisted by exemplary steward, Pat Dresser, and Futurity Judge David Samuelson. Thanks to 2005 National Show Chair Rhonda Gifford and her hardworking committees and volunteers for making this event a heralded one!
In the 2005 Board of Directors election for the Class of 2008, the membership elected new board member Donna Lynch, and reelected Lori Nelson and Cindy Scott. Wendy Clark opted not to run for reelection and I know the entire membership joins me in thanking Wendy for her many years of service to the Board.
Several projects were completed in 2005 - The Versatile Whippet pamphlet has been expanded and revised (thanks Wendy) and is available from the AWC Secretary. The AWC web site has a new look including the interactive Whippet Compatibility Test. Judges education at the 2005 National had 25+ attendees so that program is working and the PowerPoint presentation is nearing completion. The members voted in 2005 making changes to the AWC ROM/ROMX requirements and in the Futurity. AWC continues to support “Take the Lead” and “Morris Animal Foundation” and in 2005 AWC members rallied to aid the dog owners ravaged by the wrath of hurricanes and floods, by both personal efforts and contributions to assistance organizations.
It is the AWC volunteers who contribute to AWC’s vitality and success in varied venues. We can all become complacent, knowing the event will go on, the publication will arrive, the breed inquiries will be answered, the judges and public will be educated - that “someone” will make it happen - - just as “the sun will always rise.” Like our Whippets, AWC volunteers seek nothing for their efforts, but please, take the time to say thanks - - just consider it the equivalent of soft pat on the head!
See you soon,

Al earned her LCM2 in July and ranked #4 ASFA Whippet before tearing a shoulder muscle in early August, which ended her coursing season early. She will begin work on her LCM3 in the spring of 2006.
“James”, Al’s father, earned his LCM5 this fall and is now enjoying his retirement at the age of 7.

“Guido” came to us from Phoebe Booth. Guido is from a line of ARM racing dogs and he is also part Australian. He is a very classy and elegant boy and he is FAST! He tried both CWA and lure coursing this year and had the time of his life. Guido will continue his straight-line career in both CWA and WRA after he grows up over the winter. Along with running and agility, he will be selectively shown.

Still Crazy After All These Years!!!
C.C. finished her ASFA Veteran Field Championship Summer 2005.
At 9 years old, she still pulls us to the racetrack and coursing field, barking and tugging on the leash all the way. Her breaks from the racing starting boxes are legendary. On the coursing field, she still follows the lure with great passion, earning Best of Breed from the veteran stake
(MCA trial 2005).
We treasure her veteran field championship title.

Thanks to William Cunningham, Loraine Boutwell and Francine Schwartz for Chance’s majors, and all the judges who made this possible. Thanks to Windsheen and Dashing for breeding this lovely dog. Last, but not least, thanks to David and Gina Samuelson for presenting and believing in him.

Selectively shown in 2005, Glimmer had several Breed wins and Group placements. Among them was a Group One under Hound authority B. Nolan Dale. Glimmer is pictured above winning a Group placement under noted Hound judge Lynne Schanzle. Glimmer was Breeder/Owner handled to all of her wins.
