Adagio Jilzan Mars Odyssey

Adagio Jilzan Spirit On Mars
(Ch. Summit Sir Yvain, JC x Ch. Rushing Wind de Sud)
These are two of the lovely babies out of our “Mars” litter, born the day the Spirit Rover landed on Mars. Both pups are pointed from the puppy class - we think the future is looking pretty “red”!
Watch also for Adagio Jilzan Mars Sojourner (Caffee), Adagio Jilzan MyFavoriteMartin (Adams/Erickson) and Adagio Jilzan Mars Mariner (Johnson/Baum).
Thanks to “Grandma” - Dr. Suzi Fosnot - for the litter theme and her enthusiastic support!

From L to R:
Naomi, Cosmo, Nestor, Truffle, Eureka
They are:
Bitterblue’s Soul Sister
Bitterblue’s Time Warp
Bitterblue’s Nestor
Bitterblue’s Nepenthe
Kentfield’s PDQ Eureka
Though these dogs are all pointed or titled in straight and oval racing, lure coursing, open field coursing, agility and/or obedience, with the occasional appearance in the show ring, we have left off their titles in celebration of what they give us each day. Beauty, athletic ability and brains are just part of the perfect Whippet. The joy they bring to our lives is unquestionable.
We did, however, finish two new champions in the ring this year: Ch. Bitterblue’s LSH Sybil and Ch. Bitterblue’s LSH Phantom, both LaMancha dairy goats.

2004 was another great year for the Fanciers. We sponsored four successful racing weekends, helmed by Jean Balint, giving speedy whippets ample opportunities to show their stuff in NAWRA, NOTRA and CWA competition. The new site in Wheatland was wonderful, and we had the added bonus of seeing just how fast our whippets really are, when Frank Herald unveiled his digital timer at our Fall meets!
Our coursing coordinator, Cheryl Boyer, put on a huge AKC event in November, where we saw over 100 hounds running in beautiful Arrowhead Marsh. Cheryl's crack team made sure that this giant trial was put on in a timely fashion and we were thrilled to be running Best in Field (won by awesome saluki "Raven") by 3 PM!
Rescue underwent a change in 2004. Judy Benson, who had overseen this program for the last six years, decided to take a step back and the very enthusiastic Mimi Dygert stepped up to the plate. Four whippets found permanent, loving homes through Mimi & Judy's efforts in 2004.
The NCWFA saw a milestone in 2004. Our Specialty Show and Obedience Trial celebrated its tenth anniversary with sparkling weather and one of our largest entries ever. 104 whippets paraded in the California sun and tried to win some truly gorgeous trophies, while their people partook of our legendary potluck luncheon and bid on some unique treasures at our silent auction. Mary Jean Odron was responsible for gathering a hard-working team and making sure that our tenth annual event was our best so far.
Our Club is proud to always have among its numbers whippets that excel in the national rankings. This year was no exception, as we saw Ch. Tivio's Fallingwater JC (Ed & MJ Odron) rise to number one whippet (all-breed system). Lucia's frequent competitor "Pepper", Ch Morlais Sargent Pepper (Frank & Sallie Richards), was the number two male whippet in the nation in the conformation standings. Jean Balint's Miss Shelby of Wyndsor, ARX, ORC, coming back from her first litter in January, won the CWA National Race Meet in June. Ch. Brushwood's Moxi of Endeavor (co-bred by Linda Stewart) had the amazing distinction of winning BOB at the largest AWC National Specialty ever, a win that was accomplished from the classes!
The NCWFA is proud to salute its new title-holders for 2004.

We have a full slate of racing and coursing planned throughout the year, and our 11th Annual Specialty is on the books for Oct.22nd, judged by Tracy Hite (Dr. Barbara Henderson is doing Sweeps).* To learn more about the NCWFA and our events visit our website at ht tp : / /ncwf a .com.

We are pleased to present “Joker”. He is the second from his litter to finish, thus securing his dam’s ROM. This smooth-bodied gentleman is a joy to know. We are proud to note Joker’s classic shape and superlative underline, which was a hallmark of the entire litter.
Joker took off at 6 months old and never looked back. He captured his first win at a smidge over 6 months by winning a BISweeps under breeder Shelley Kruger (Fanfare). He won his Futurity class under Debi Adams (Jade) at the 2002 National. In the classes, he was seen sporting a 4-point major win under Michelle Billings! He is pictured winning under judge Eileen Pimlott, handled by breeder-owner Michael Allen.
