Although Helen didn’t go to many shows in 2004, she had several nice wins to her credit, including Best of Breed at the North Central Specialty under hound expert Betty Stites. In her words: “...exhibited the lines and sweep that I like to see...head and eye were lovely...nice body depth and good rear musculature...smooth balanced movement...Total package.” Watch for Helen in 2005!!!

Louise has had another magical year on the lure coursing field. She earned her ASFA Lure Courser of Merit and, as of mid-fall, had worked her way up to #5 Whippet in the ASFA Top Twenty! She also had the honor of winning the coveted GTCWC Karen Samuelson Memorial Trophy for the second consecutive year! She continues to perform admirably in both CWA and NOTRA as well, and can’t wait to start up again in the spring.

Last issue’s “singled-out” girl earned her bench championship this year, with major wins coming under respected hound breeders. She also is showing a lot of promise in straight and oval racing, where she races as Yaha (to make things easier on the paddock masters). An exciting breeding to Aust. Ch. Byerley Savile Row is planned for 2005, just one of our many plans and dreams for Pivoine’s future. A big, strong girl with a lovely head and neck, she’s the perfect sort to blend with a top international bloodline.

We are really excited about our keeper puppy from Mabel and Barkley’s litter. Tabitha’s feminine elegance and smooth floating sidegait have already gained her an AKC major and 3 DPC legs in the CWA match rings. She shows a lot of promise in racing and coursing as well, a very clean and intense runner with outstanding focus in all that we do. She’s also a lively and playful presence in our home. We couldn’t be happier with Tabitha.

Maura’s breeding is very special to us, as she is sired by my favorite dog, Pungo, and out of a lovely daughter of Sanibel and Rush. She combines so many of our old favorites, like Houston, Savannah and Ava, in one pedigree. We are very pleased with her and excited about the potential of her two beautiful littersisters who remain with the co-breeder of this litter, Lesley Merrill. Maura is already big on the bunny and looks likely to live up to her heritage of show whippets who love to race and course.

Seaspell 2004

The high spot this past year was watching “Marnie” excel once again in the show ring capturing an “All Breed Best In Show”, AWC Supported Entry wins, National and Specialty Selects, countless BOB’s and Group placements. She finished 2004 ranking #4 Whippet. “Marnie” was the only top whippet to compete in the 2004 National Triathlon - a great thrill!
