2002 found the NCWFA occupied with many activities, calculated to keep the versatile Northern California Whippet very busy. Our year began with several well-attended weekends of NAWRA & NOTRA racing, held at Windy Glen in Anderson, with entries in the 40’s. Two CWA weekends followed, boasting large entries as well. The NCWFA racing weekends are fast becoming known for great competition and fabulous prizes & food - and more of all is planned for 2003! 2002 also saw the return of lure coursing to the Club, after a two year absense. A very enjoyable “Playday” in August was quickly followed by a JC test in October and a full-fledged AKC Trial in November. We ran over 75 dogs and lived to tell about it (and we were done before 3 PM)!! Our 8th Annual Specialty Show & Obedience Trial was another success, with competitors coming from all over the West to show their whippets, bid on art treasures at our auction, and enjoy Northern California hospitality. Our Rescue program, headed by Judy Benson, placed almost a dozen whippets and almost-whippets in loving, permanent homes. Log onto our Club website at http://ncwfa.com and check out the wonderful events we have planned for 2003!
We are proud of our members who continue to breed, exhibit, race, course, and train the best the West has to offer, and are happy to highlight our 2002 title holders below.

Highlighting the year . . .
What fun! Our beautiful Amie won the Brood Bitch Class at the National in Denver. This award was all the more special since it was so unexpected.
A new homebred champion, in the person of “Pie”. She did it almost completely from BBE and we were thrilled that so many people obviously liked her as much as we do.
Two good running dogs, “Pie” and “Troy”. It is fun to be back at the races and lure courses.

From the Past...
During more than 40 years in Whippets, Bohem has remained a very small kennel, one where every dog gets house privileges, every litter is carefully planned, and every effort is made to place each puppy in the best possible, permanent home. There have only been 36 Bohem litters since the mid-1960s (including 10 co-bred). In spite of this, Bohem has remained one of the most successful Whippet kennels in the US and one of the most influential in the world: in 2002, offspring of Bohem dogs exported to Scandinavia, continental Europe, Australia and Asia have excelled in the show ring, as well as in the US and Canada.
Over the past five years, we have bred four litters and co-bred two others. From the four adult litters there are so far 14 champions, with more on the way. Because we show very little, we are grateful to the enthusiastic puppy owners, many of them newcomers, who are doing a great job with their dogs.

2002
was a very good year:
We had our fifth individual AWC Specialty Best in Show winner, our fourth individual AKC AII Breeds Best in Show winner, six new champions (including the 100th Bohem champion!)
|
Best of all, we were blessed with a healthy,
happy litter in the spring and a
beautiful co-bred litter in late fall.
Good luck to all the puppies in 2003! |

AWC SBIS CH. BOHEM THREE RING CIRCUS
(SBIS Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush of Keynote x Ch. Bohem All About Eve)
Chili is, to the best of our knowledge, the first Whippet ever to win the Breed all three days
during the AWC Western weekend in Lompoc (above, handled by Andy Linton). He was only shown at the
five big specialty weekends in California in 2002 (Palm Springs, San Diego, Long Beach, Lompoc and Del
Valle), winning BOB or BOS nine times, qualifying for the AWC Top 20 competition for the second time.
We are hoping for a litter or two by Chili in 2003.
Ch. Bohem Romanesque, JC, SR
Ch. Watch Me Ari Independence x Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing
After big specialty weekend majors in California, Tootsie finished quickly in the Midwest, shown by Barbara Wayne. She is now just 3 points away from her
AKC Field Ch. title, thanks to Deborah Bahm. Owned by Kim Otero. We hope for a 2003 litter out of Tootsie.

Ch. Starline s Reign On x Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing
Forget about her own wins, wonderful as they were... this is a real brood bitch, and worth her
weight in gold. In her first two litters of 14 puppies, 9 are champions, with more coming.
For her third (and final) litter, see facing page.

BIS & SBIS CH. BOHEM CIRCUS PONY
(SBIS Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush of Keynote x Ch. Bohem All About Eve)
Whispa returned home to Japan at the end of 2002, having accomplished more than we could ever have hoped for:
- Finished in 7 AKC shows with major BOB over top specials from the classes during his first visit in 2000;
- Multiple Breed & Group winner during his second visit in 2001;
- Multiple Group & SBIS winner, all-breed BIS in his 2002 visit;
- Twice AWC National Specialty Select Award of Merit;
- Three times qualified for the AWC Top 20 competition although only shown part of each year;
- Sire of 7 young champions (so far) from his first four litters
Thanks to Barbara Wayne for her wonderful care and handling. and to all Whispa's friends and supporters in the U.
Whispa, his "wife" Ch. Statuesque Traces of Joy, and the kids will be joined in 2003 by Bohem Resounding Hurray
Whispa. (Ch. Chelsea Made You Look of Sage x Ch. Bohem Resounding Renaissance).

Twister, Camille, and Matt
2002 was an exciting year - homebred Ch. Silverstone Cameo (Camille) became a champion with a BOS in Sweeps and WB at a supported entry under her belt. Her son, Silverstone Mohr’s Gladiator (Gator - see Pedigree Section) scored Reserve Winners Dog from the puppy classes at both the Eastern and Midwest Specialties. His littermate sister was BOW at the Midwest. Gator lacks a single to finish his championship.
We look forward to 2003 with great anticipation. Babies from Camille and Amy will be debuting!
