Chelsea Eye Candy (Multi SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh, JC, ROMX x Ch. Chelsea First Kiss, JC) “Creamy” is a smooth and delicious treat. We could not be happier with the Drake daughter we decided to keep. Her virtues are what we wish to be know for. Namely: shapely, smooth bodies with long flowing lines. Creamy will be shown in earnest in 2002.
Chelsea 2001
#1 Whippet Sire - 2001 SBIS Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush (Ch. Rhode Paved With Gold x Ch. Jocora Chelsea One For The Rd) “Rush,” once again, has risen to the top of a stiff field of competition for the second year in a row. No easy feat, with his son and father breathing down his neck! Rush is the proud sire of 4 all-breed Best In Show winners and 6 specialty winners.
Chelsea 2001
SBIS Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush (Ch. Rhode Paved With Gold x Ch. Jocora Chelsea One For The Rd) This year found his attention turned toward the field. Our sincere appreciation to Maurice and Deborah Bahm for their dedicated efforts on Rush’s behalf. In short order he completed his ASFA title with a BOB over 17 FChs! His march toward his AKC Field Title began with an impressive 5-point major BOB on his way to BIF!!! Not only is he a talented athlete, his get are outstanding runners as well. A sincere thank you to all the dedicated breeders who have incorporated Rush into their programs.

Farewell Ms Whitney… February 1986 – March 2001
Ch. Cygnet Watch Me Ms Whitney, CD, JC, ROMX
Ms Whitney was an incredible producer. Ten champion offspring in 2 litters. The get achieved a greatness of their own. Small sample above: Ms Whitney (left), daughter (center) Am.Mex.Ch. Watch Me Belle Bathsheba, JC, ROMX, an AWC National Best Brood Bitch winner (twice), who produced BIS, SBIS Ch. Watch Me Ruby Red Slippers, #1 whippet all systems -1996 and #1 All Breed -1997 (Vincent), plus Ch. Watch Me Ari Independence (Allen) and BIS Ch. Watch Me Frolic At Dengayle, a Westminster KC breed winner and 4 time Top 20 contender (Davenport). Far right, son Am.Mex.Ch. Watch Me Mr Willy McCoy (Thomas), handled by Kathy to a Top 20 record.
Ch. Cygnet Watch Me Ms Whitney, CD, JC, ROMX Ms Whitney established the foundation of Watch Me Whippets. She represented the beauty and power of her de la Creme, de la Renta (Dukes) and Saxon Shore (Lockhart) parents. These attributes shine today in the ring in great-granddaughter BIS Ch. Watch Me True At First Light. Ms Whitney was intelligent. Achieving her CD in 4 shows, without ever attending obedience classes or practice matches. Her daughter, Watch Me Ms Independence, UD (Simmons), won numerous High In Trials. Ms Whitney was a true sighthound, achieving her JC at 7 years of age in 2 events. Some of her closest descendants are currently being raised by Kathy Thomas, out of Ms Whitney’s son, Am.Mex.Ch. Watch Me Mr Willy McCoy. I feel so blessed, honored, and proud to have had a chance to share my life with a companion that gave me so much joy. There will be no other like her. Ms Whitney, I love you and miss you deeply. May your
Jeanne Williams ~ Esprit 2001 ~ The door closes… 2001 was a year of great sadness, marked by the passing of a legendary Whippet person, friend, and mentor, Christine Cormany. 2001 also was marked by the passing of several legendary Whippets, among them top-producing Oscar daughter and double grandmother to our Annie, Ch. Cygnet Watch Me Ms Whitney, JC, CD, ROMX and Multi BIS 3 x National Specialty BOS and Daddy Dog Extraordinaire, Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, JC, FCh, ROMX. I am very greatful for having had the opportunity to spend time with Christine and both of these great dogs, as their influence is evident here at Esprit.
Esprit Dreaming Out Loud (Benny) The window opens… Our 3 hopefuls for 2000 by Drake and Ch. Watch Me Ms Annie Oakley, SC became our first 3 homebred, 100% owner-handled Champions in 2001. Both Ch. Esprit Catch A Rising Star, SC (Riley) and Ch. Esprit Spellbound (Max) finished with 5-point AWC Supported Entry majors! This Dynamic Duo also added to their BIS Brace wins their only time out at the Western Sighthound Specialty in July. Ch. Esprit’s Mystere (Kyra) finished so fast, with 4 majors, that she never got a chance to go to a Supported Entry show! Thanks to Carol Wright, Windsong Shibas and Whippets, for allowing Kyra to remain here at Esprit. A litter of 6 beautiful babies was born here in March, by Multi SBIS Ch. Festiva’s Knickerbocker, ROMX and Annie. The first-born and only boy of the Big Band litter was Esprit Dreaming Out Loud (Benny). He is shown here winning WD, BOW and his first major at his first show at 61/2 months old. Benny and his sisters will be out occasionally this coming year as they are growing up. Cleo, Leyenda Miyabi Sunkist (Can.Ch. Nasusa Wyandot SC x SBIS Ch. Autumns Pep Purr Mint), has been at home growing up since she joined the redheads here at Esprit in the summer of 2000. She has been waiting for her turn to get into the ring and onto the coursing field. Cleo went with Max to Utah for some practice and floated around the ring, garnering her a 4-point major. This December, she decided that the noisy pulley would not eat her and flew around the course for her first JC leg. This little girl can run!

To his family, “Smitty” gave his heart. To the fancy, he gave his beauty and soundness. Smitty’s offspring, though not numerous, include an AWC Specialty BIS dog, a National Futurity winner, and Group winners and placers. It is with pride that I now watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren winning. I am thankful for “Smitty’s” time with us and for the dear friends that loved and valued him and shared him with me. Life is never without its hardships and nothing is ever perfect, except our memory of happy times and our beautiful dogs.
2001/ 2002 The bevy of beauties on the adjacent pages are my 2001/2002 class line up. I have found myself in the pleasantly challenging position of having to rotate showing them. All of them are major pointed and two are Regional Specialty (5) point winners. All three have BOB wins over Specials. Other credits include a Best in Sweeps, Puppy Best of Breeds and Group placements. “Foxy”… Chelsea Hey Now de Sud

“Julia”… Jungle Gardenia de Sud
(Ch. Barchet Singular Sensation x Ch. Harlot’s Halo de Sud) The baby of the family has kept things lively on the home-front and in the ring. Breeders: Kathy Armato & Saulo Biscoto, Jr. Owner: Kathy Armato Columbia, SC tenscjed@bellsouth.net
Tarheel Whippet Association The TWA is a new whippet club that was started a little over a year ago in North Carolina. We, the members, have various interests with our own whippets, but do have a common goal - to promote the versatility of the whippet. Last year in April, we held a Fun Day and a Match Show. In June, we hosted a CWA race meet and had entries from New England, Minnesota, and many states in between. In December, we hosted North Carolina’s first NOTRA race meet. In 2002, we are planning to hold a “B” Match during the Tar Heel Circuit. In March, we will host our second CWA race meet. In May, we will be holding a Supported Entry at the Mid-Atlantic Hound Association’s first Hound Group Specialty. The panel of judges for this event will be a great one. On May 12, Mrs Wanner is the whippet Breed judge, with Sweeps judged by Mrs Harriett Nash Lee and Veteran Sweeps judged by Mrs. Maureen Lucas. A couple weeks later, we will hold a split weekend of racing, with both CWA and NOTRA. After a couple months off, so members can do some coursing, in November we will hold another racing weekend. We hope by the time you read this, we will have put in a bid to host the 2004 AWC National Specialty in Charlotte, North Carolina. Submitted by Fermanagh Kennels – 2001 Tori
Sportingfield Tori Fermanagh We at Fermanagh are proud of the association we have with Debbie Butt and Sporting Fields. Tori was a single pup and has given us a world of expectation. As a pup, Tori went RWD under Pat Miller at the AWC Specialty in Atlanta and later the same day went BOS in a large sweepstakes entry under Patience Renzulli. The next day at the AWC Supported Entry, Tori won a 5-point major under Mrs. Anne Rogers Clark (the picture was not suitable for this ad). He has since picked up 2 more points (pictured) and another RWD at an AWC Supported Entry. Tori has also shown his desire to compete in the field. He has competed in CWA racing as a puppy, in NOTRA racing, and has 1 leg on his AKC JC. Watch for Tori and Debbie in 2002. 2001 was also a great year for FC Roby of Wyndsor, ARX, SRA, FCh. Roby won all 12 CWA race meets he competed in and finished his Supreme Racing Award before the age of 3. He also finished #1 for 2001 in CWA racing. He also picked up 3.5 points in NOTRA as a “A” grade racer. Tyra of Wyndsor (Roby’s 1/2 sister, sired by Ch. Slades Bugle Boy Blu, ARX) made her racing debut as an adult late in the year. She finished with 8 points in CWA and 6 points in AKC coursing, including a 4-point major, and competed in a NOTRA race.
