BIF Allegro’s Touch of Fortune, LCM, CGC, SC
September 12, 1987 – June 5, 2000

We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.

BIF DC Surrey Hill Darker Than Amber, ARX, DPC
Co-owned with Karen Lee, Surrey Hill
(Ch. Surrey Hill Millenium Falcon FCh. x DC Chelsea Selena, CD, FCh, ARX, CAV, CGC, CRX, DPC)

What a year for the Demster! In April, she went Best Altered at the 2000 AWC National Specialty under judge Jean Balint. She had her first Best in Field and is now a handful of points away from her ASFA Field Championship. She then finished the year by completing her AKC Field Champion title with two back-to-back majors, which makes her a Dual Champion! In 2001 look for her to be in the field at more lure trials and race meets!

Surrey Hill’s Pretender, SC, CR
(MBISS Am.Can.Ch. Swiftsure Out of Africa
x DC Chelsea Selena, CD, FCh, ARX, CAV, CGC, CRX, DPC)

Jarod is just beginning his performance career. In his first weekend of racing, Jarod obtained his first ARX point and a placement toward his DPC title. He has now earned a total of 7 ARX points and we hope to finish that title in 2001! He still has not reached his true adult running form and will only improve with time and experience. Jarod is a credit to his awesome pedigree. He is a combination of elegant yet powerful, functional dogs.

Stormwinds Lightning Strike, ORC, ARX, CRX-III, SC
(Hamlin’s Pogo del Allegro, ARM, SORC-II, FCh, CD x Fermanagh Benjiman’s Brie, LCM, CD [ORC ptd])

Striker made us very proud this year by winning the Race Dog class at the 2000 AWC National Specialty, over two bench champions and in racing condition!

He has always been a worthy competitor on the field and track and we look forward to continuing his athletic pursuits for years to come! Striker is a multiple meet winner and has been ranked in both NOTRA and CWA racing in years past. He is one major away from his AKC Field Championship and, although he started ASFA coursing at age 7, he picked up many of the points needed for that title this year!

Striker is a gentle dog and is a pleasure to live with. He, like many of the linebred Sundance dogs, exemplifies the temperament we are looking for in a whippet.

Chase…

…still doing what he likes best.

Longlesson TNWDS Hi Priority, CD, MC, FCh, TDI

(Elysian One Man Show x Ch. Elysian A-Few April Showers, FCh, ROM) CERF clear

My beloved Chase turns 10 this year. He has just discovered racing.
At the 2000 AWC National, he was the oldest entrant to earn points.
His next race meet was the WRA National event, where he also earned points.
He has always completed all 4 programs. Lure coursing remains his raison d’etre.

Chase was bred by Dr. James Gray (Elysian), the Laynes (Tennessee Woods) and the Swayzes (Longlesson)

…who loves everything and everyone!

Elysian Pompeii Pastorale
(Ch. Elysian Sun Dancer x Elysian Imagine That) born 3/31/00 CERF clear

Jamie came to us this summer from Scott Thompson. He’s been the perfect puppy - happy, social and dead sound. He’s linebred to Rapid - his father, Cheyenne, is by Perry out of Ch. Elysian May Flowers and his mama, Holly, is a Perry/Shane granddaughter. Holly lacks a point to finish.
At six months and a week, he went to his first show (and my first time in the ring with a dog on lead in 8 years!) winning RWD. The next day he went WD/BOW/BOS (over a special) under Michael Canalizo for 2 points. He is shown, at 7 months, going WD/BOW under Betty Stites for another 2 points. Thank you to all who have admired him at ringside and at field trials.

Jamie will be trying out racing, lure coursing and obedience in 2001 - and hoping the majors stop breaking!

Jamie was bred by Scott Thomson, Brenda Smith and Dr. James Gray.
Jamie is owned and loved by Karen Rockwell (Pompeii),
and is co-owned by Dr. James Gray (Elysian) and the Swayzes (Longlesson).

Seaspell Whippets Year 2000

Ch Seaspell’s Beach Music, FCh, SC

- Wallis -

The 2000 National will be a memory not long forgotten. It still chokes us up to recall that incredible lineup in the final selection of breeder-judge Joan Goldstein. Our beautiful “Wallis” was right behind the gorgeous winner for 1st Select and brother “River” was also awarded 5th Select. While our dogs were only shown a couple of times this year, River also received another AOM at the Eastern Specialty and Wallis BOS at the Supported Entry and a Best of Breed in Boston, entry of 54. They, as a “team”, achieved “Best Brace in Show” at the prestigious Morris and Essex show.

Our sad news is the passing of two beloved dogs, Mr. Fern’s Saint I Ain’t, FCh, SC and Ch. Sporting Fields Sea’s Spell, FCh, SC. We miss them terribly. Sealy’s first grandchildren were born September, 2000, and we pray for one as beautiful as her.

We have beautiful puppies from Wallis x Hogan, “Ch. Seaspell’s Son of a Beach”, aka Chops, and “Seaspell’s Rock of Ages”, aka Khola. “Chops” finished in grand style from the 9-12 puppy class with a 4 and two 5-point majors and a Best Puppy in Show. We are extremely proud of both puppies that carry on the beautiful movement and breed type of both parents. “Khola” will be presented in 2001 and is co-owned with Joseph Buchanan.

AmCan Ch. Snowcap’s Wildcard Goodfellow

(SBIS Ch. Chelsea Goldrush of Keynote x Am/PR/Int/World’s Ch. Albelarm Reign Forest, JC, ROM)

Gleason spent a very short time in the classes, achieving Winners Dog at two Supported Entries and a Best in Specialty Sweepstakes at the Eastern Specialty. He thrilled us by being awarded Best of Breed at the prestigious Trenton Kennel Club from the puppy class for his third major (entry of 61). In his first time out as a special, he won the Group. Next was on to a Best of Breed at the Somerset Hills Supported Entry (entry of 78) and topping off the year was a spectacular breed win at the Cleveland Invitational (entry of 81, including 17 specials). Shown selectively, “Gleason” is a multiple Group winner, with 14 Best of Breeds and 8 Group placements and is a Top 20 contender.

All of this at the ripe old age of 21 months . . . Go Gleason!

“Hogan’s” very short career was no less than exceptional.
“Hogan” is a Specialty Best In Show winner, multiple Group winner, AWC Supported Entry winner and received the honor of First Award of Merit at The Westminster Kennel Club in 2000.
“Hogan” finished 2000 as the number 2 Whippet male in the United States.
Now retired from the show ring, he is beginning to stand out as a sire.
He already has sired Group winning and Specialty major-pointed children.
In December alone, “Hogan” has two new Champions, both finishing with 3 majors.

All of this and only 2 years of age.

Lurdie Whippets

Lurdie’s Esprit d’Picasso
(Ch. Morshor’s Spectacular
x Ch. Longlesson Elysian Perimour)

At sixteen months Blaze made his debut to dog shows, winning the BBE class at a cold, windswept outdoors show site in Chattanooga, TN, en route to Greensburg, PA, for the National. His second trip into the ring was placing 4th in his Futurity class. In spite of his lack of ring experience, he triumphed on his 3rd trip into the ring. He is pictured winning the competitive Bred-By-Exhibitor class at the 2000 AWC National Specialty. After taking a break for the majority of 2000 to mature, he will be resuming his championship quest in 2001.

Lurdie’s This Witch’s B’Witched, JC
(Ch. Morshor Majestic Top Evenger, JC
x Ch. Lurdie’s NutRageous, JC)

Samantha, “SAM”, aspired to match Blaze’s accomplishment at the 2000 AWC National in the Bred-By bitch class and was awarded 2nd place to the BOW. She is the granddaughter of Ch. Morshor Majestic Ball O’Fire, “Lisa”, Best of Breed winner at the first AWC National.

Ch. Lurdie’s Esprit d’Monet
(Ch. Morshor’s Spectacular x Ch. Longlesson Elysian Perimour)

Blake started his career with a 5-point major from the 6-9 puppy class and wrapped it up with two more 5-point majors, 2 Best of Breeds and a Group 4, to finish his championship in September, 2000.

Not pictured –
Lurdie’s Esprit d’Matisse
(Ch. Morshor’s Spectacular x Ch. Longlesson Elysian Perimour)
Mary began her show career owner-handled by Wendy Kilgore, with a 5-point major, Best of Breed and Group 2.

Lurdie’s Esprit d’Van Gogh
(Ch. Morshor’s Spectacular x Ch. Longlesson Elysian Perimour)
Jack stayed home while his siblings went to the National, but was not to be outdone and on his only outing in 2000, brought home a 5-point major as well.

The achievements that we have achieved with our limited breeding program was highlighted, in particular, by the recognition these dogs received from respected breeder-judges, Mr. Douglas Broadfoot, AWC Futurity, and Mrs. Joan Goldstein, AWC National Regular Classes, both in their placements and their written evaluations.
We are exceptionally proud of the accomplishments of all of these young dogs. They all have beautiful silhouettes with the low, efficient, ground-covering movement that we strive for.
