The millennium year has been a very exciting one for Sowagla Whippets.

Arthur fulfilled a lifelong dream when judge Joan Goldstein awarded him Winners Dog at the 2000 American Whippet Club National Specialty. What a huge honor! Arthur went on to finish his championship with back-to-back majors and a Best of Breed. Another exciting win came at the MAWA Specialty in Atlanta, when judge Carolyn Bowers awarded Arthur an Award of Merit. I am so proud to have bred and owner-handled this fine dog, who has been appreciated by respected breeder judges. In December, Arthur’s first litter was born, two darling boy's out of Ch. Sowagla Apparition.

Thank you to Loraine Boutwell, Lorraine Groshans, Audrey Sutton, Stan Halley, Desmond Murphy and Jim Gray for the big wins. Thank you Phoebe Booth for taking such excellent care of my boy and showing the whippet fanciers how nice he is.

Wood has “wonderful” side gait, “beautiful headpiece” with large dark eyes, “nice depth of body” and a strong second thigh. He excels at warming my heart and Phoebe’s head!

The 2000 American Whippet Futurity Club Futurity was held in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on April 11, 2000. The entry of 122 was judged by Douglas Broadfoot (Broadstrider). The winner was from the 8-10 month Puppy Dog Class. The winner received $785.79. The class winners received: 1st place - $59.00 2nd place - $44.00 3rd place - $30.00 and 4th place - $15.00.

AWC National, April 9-15, 2000, held at the Four Points Hotel, Greensburg, PA, with 681 entries judged by Mrs. Joan Goldstein. Veteran Sweepstakes was judged by Dr. Charles Billings.

The Southern California Whippet Association held its 17th specialty show at the Western Hound Association of Southern California show, located on the University Campus of Long Beach California on June 3O, 2000. There was an entry of 98 Whippets, with Magnas Hagstedt from Sweden judging 35 class dogs, 43 bitches and 20 specials.
Sweepstakes was judged by Denise Tatro. Obedience judged by Hugo Schreiner.

Back-to-Back BIS Brace!!!

We had a fun year at Esprit with these two boys, Esprit Spellbound (Max) - on the left - and Esprit Catch A Rising Star, SC* (Riley) - on the right. These handsome dudes even tried their paws as a brace this year. Shown only 3 times as a brace, they were awarded Group II, BIS, BIS.

Riley started the year off with a 4-point major and Best Bred-by-Exhibitor under Ms Sue Hamlin at the Palm Springs Hound Show weekend, followed by a 5-point major under breeder-judge Shelley Hennessey at the supported entry show at the Texas Kennel Club. Brother Max was RWD! May found Riley BOW for a 3-point major under breeder-judge Dr John Shelton at the Mission Circuit. Max was RWD for the major the day before. The year ended with Riley having 14 points and Max with 1 point and lots of RWD awards . . . including 16 points in major Reserves.

Litter sister Esprit’s Mystere (Kyra) was THIRD in the BBE class of 38 at the National Specialty her second time in the ring. At home growing up with Carol Wright, Windsong Shibas and Whippets, she’ll be out in 2001. Our beautiful brindle and white little girl with the long neck and big dark eyes has never put a foot down wrong.
