Sanibel was shown in only one all-breed show in the USA in 1997, Westminster, where she was ably handled by Phoebe Booth to an Award of Merit. She flew to Brazil, in whelp to Rory, in June. After raising four gorgeous pups, she was campaigned for three and a half months, with outstanding results. Shown above taking one of her many nice wins, handled by co-owner Saulo, she achieved every title available to a Whippet in Brazil, including
- Brazilian Grand National Champion (for multiple Best In Shows in multiple Brazilian states)
- Pan-American Champion (for wins under judges from many North Et South American nations)
- F.C.I. International Champion (4 C.A.C.I.B.'s under 4 International judges at all 4 designated International shows entered)

Sanibel was halfway to her LCM and AKC FC titles when she left for Brazil — we will reward her for being such a good sport about all the dog shows by letting her chase bunnies to her heart's content this year!

"Oasis" is our pick puppy bitch from the wonderful litter of four puppies that Sanibel whelped in Brazil. At barely 6 months old, she had an exciting debut, winning Best Puppy in Show! We might take her to the U.S. some day, so as she can try her luck in her parent's country.

At 7 1/2 months of age, "Pungo" has a BOSSweeps and 10 pts, both majors. Here Pungo is shown taking a 4-point major, with his brother, Justis, taking the major RWD from 6-9 Puppy Class. But a few weeks earlier, it was Justis who prevailed, winning a major over Pungo at 61/2 months old! But the sibling rivalry continued at THAT show, as their lovely fawn and white sister, Surrey Hill's Stella de Oro, went BOW over Justis to share his major!
Some half-siblings had a pretty good year, too! Dawn Treader sons sired by " Troy" earned their championships this year – Congratulations to Dawn Sutherland for Ch. Surrey Hill's One Step Beyond and to Rhonda Baskerville for Ch. Surrey Hill's Once in a Lifetime.
All five of Dawn's champion kids, plus the many exciting youngsters from the Firing Line litter, are the product of a successful co-ownership with our friends, Chris and Bob Strom. Thank you Chris and Bob, for your loving care of Dawn and her babies through the years.

Selena earned her AKC FC title, her CD (always placing in or winning her Novice A class), and her CVC this year. Megan earned her Novice Agility title in the spring and her Open Agility title (with two first place legs) in the fall of '97. In November, she attained one leg toward her Excellent title. She has also resumed lure coursing after a yearlong layoff and added her fourth first placement towards her LCM.

Nicole's achievement of her Novice Agility title (with two second place legs) is a triumph of tenacity over trauma. At her very first Agility trial, while doing a "down" on the pause table, she was stung by a bee. It took a year and a half of patient encouragement to restore her confidence; it also taught her handler a mighty lesson about the importance of insect repellent at outdoor trials.
