(Ch. Karasars Virtuous Victor x Ch. Sporting Fields Exact Change) He started his show career as a 6 month old puppy going BOS over specials and finished with a 4-point major. Jordi’s favorite things to do are chasing “bunnies” and frisbees and working toward his obedience titles and, at the same time, keeping his gentlemanly behavior. The “Jord-man” is a very versatile dog and wonderful companion. Many thanks to my good friend and mentor, Jackie Levin, for guiding me in the right direction for an all owner-handled championship title.
“Curvy, athletic bitch with flowing lines: true standing and on the move with effortless reach & drive." Ch Carbeth St Louie Louie SC & Ch Whippletree SM Whimsy
Mr. Gaiy Doerge (BOB Prestigious Philadelphia Bench Show plus Bucks County Major and BOS) Breeding planned.....
Mighty Mite qualified for the Award of Versatility from the AWC in 199o. He also received a Tracking Dog Excellent title (TDX). He is truly a talented and eager tracking dog, and is training for his Variable Surface Tracking title. We are also hoping to be in the Open obedience ring soon.
Charlie was one of the first two whippets to meet the qualifications for the Award of Versatility Excellence of the AWC. Charlie has done almost everything a whippet can do (we haven’t tried herding sheep!). Retired from his favorite activity, whippet racing, he recently completed his Flyball Dog Master (FDM) at age 8, and is ranked #ó Whippet in flyball.

1997 was a milestone year for our club. Our Second Annual Specialty was judged by Barbara Rupert (Oakhurst) and was held in conjunction with the Wheaton Kennel Club’s 78th annual all breed show. Kerrie Kuper’s Karasar’s Preference (Pearl) won Best of Breed and Karasar’s Lone Ranger won Best in Sweepstakes. Thank you, Barbara, for a wonderful job. The following day, AWC supported the entry at The Kennel Club of Yorkviile with Dick Rupert judging the breed and Carol Juelfs judging the sweepstakes. GCWC also supported the entry at the Skokie Valley Kennel Club event which is part of the five day Christmas Cluster.
GCWC added many new members increasing our ranks to over 50 with show, performance and companion interests equally represented. Our philosophy is not only to support the breed but to support the advancement of the owner through education, mentoring and providing a forum for members to pursue whatever personal breed related activities they choose. After two terms as President, Jim Thibodeaux has decided to “retire” and take time to just enjoy the club’s activities. Jim worked tirelessly to get the club where it’s at today and was responsible for obtaining our approval from the AKC as a licensed show giving club. Thank you for everything you’ve done, Jim. Elections for officers and board member were held in Getting in tune with the wonderful world of the Internet, GCWC established their Web page on America On Line with a link to the American Whippt Club’s Web site. We can be seen at http .//home.aol.com/chgo whip Here, one can see whippets and club members in action along with some unusual specimens of the breed. We are looking forward to 1998 with great anticipation. Our 3rd Annual Specialty will be held on June 6th with Carol Curry (Locar) as our Breed Judge and Karen Roberson as our Sweepstakes Judge. And, if history repeats, our entries will, once again, be a record for us. Thank you Carol and Karen for accepting this assignment. On the performance side, GCWC members, Joe and Tern Santo have the honor of sharing their home with the country’s #3 Whippet in Obedience. Two race meets were held in conjunction with the Show-Me and Greater St. Louis whippet clubs and included a fun match and a Sanctioned “B” match. Last, but certainly not least, GCWC will host the 1998 Whippet Racing Association National Race Meet at the Eyleland Kennels over Labor Day Weekend. This will be an historic event since it will be the last race ever at Ralph Eyles’ kennels. Some of the fastest dogs in the country will be racing for top honors and a Sanctioned
Mitchell has done it all for us. He started his show career with a Specialty Best in Show under breeder judge Peggy Newcombe at the tender age of 9 months. He won two more Specialties, as well as his CD’s in three straight trials. At the American Whippet Club’s first Triathion, he placed third, when he was seven years old. He now retires with this Best in Triathlon award, under breeder judge Audrey Benbow, just two months shy of his 10th birthday. Mitchell’s love in life is the field. He only did the obedience and show to please us, but he did it well. We now have great hopes for his granddaughter, Devonair’s Zoe (Ch. Alerek’s Celebrity x Ch. Devonair’s Tiffany, CD, FCh), whom we hope to bring to your attention in 1998.
Introducing new Champion “Katie”, who is shown here winning her first Group placement under judge Frank McCartha. I would like to give special thanks to her friends, Glen and Rebecca Lycan and Tina for their expert handling and loving care, and also to the following judges for their appreciation of this lovely lady: Marcia Tucker, Dr. Robert Berndt, Mrs. Robert Forsyth, BarbaraAlderman, and Susan St. John-Brown. Plans forthe upcoming year include herfirst litter, but until then she will begin working on her coursing career.
Sara-Lee is pictured finishing with her THIRD Breed from the classes
