The Southern California Whippet Association held its 13th independent specialty show and 5th obedience trial at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California on May 10, 1996. There was an entry of 110 whip-pets making 151 entries, with Mr. George S. Bell (Bel S'mbran Salukis) judging 29 class dogs, 46 bitches, 17 specials (9+8) and 10 non-regular entries. The 35 sweepstakes entries were judged by Mr. Daniel Silva and the 8 in obedience by Mr. Dorothy McCauley.

The GSDWA held its first independent specialty show Friday, May 17, 1996 at the Rancho Santa Fe Polo Club, in Rancho Santa Fe California. There was an entry of 87 in the regular classes (29 dogs, 40 bitches, 14 specials, 5 non-regular) judged by Mrs. Betty-Ann Stenmark, and 40 in the Sweepstakes judged by Dan Black.

Whitney is a joy to live with ond to show Each day is a new adventure for him and he’s yet to meet a human or hound that he doesn’t approach with unbridled enthusiasm and zeal (just ask the cats!).
He made his debut at the Jersey Rag Racers Whippet Association Sighthound Sweepstakes while only 4 months old, and he won the very large all-sighthound 3-5 month puppy dog class. He then went an to win 2nd Best Puppy in Sweeps. A big thanks to Patsy Hoy, sighthound breeder-judge, for sending Whitney on his way.
Whitney’s next stop, five days later, was at the 1996 AWC Midwest Specialty, where he placed in the 3-5 month puppy dog sweeps class under breeder-judge Lori Lawrence (Starline).
On his six-month birthday, Whitney tore around the puppy ring (literally), and won RWD under judge and sighthound owner Arlene Thompson-Brown. Two weeks later, Whitney was named Best Whippet Puppy en route to a Group 4, under judge Jane Roppolo at Bronx County KC (pictured above).

‘96 was a grand year for us. Whimsy’s On A Wing’n A Prayer (Ch. Locar’s Martini on the Rocks x Emily) went WD, BOW, BOS and BP, plus Best in Sweeps, at WWWA’s Specialty at 7 months of age. Thank you Nubby Erickson and Deann Christianson. The “white litter” is also doing well. Whimsy’s Chamoix (monika) has a major and finished in Canada. Whimsy’s lnnsbruck (trey) BOS in Sweeps at the Canadian National and the day following, is pointed. Whimsy’s Val d’Isere Allerei (val) has 9 points, including a 5-pt major at an AWC support, and is pointed in Canada. Whimsy’s Hahnenkamm (maurice) swept a weekend in Canada and needs only a point to finish up there. Their halfsister, Am.Can.Ch. Whimsy’s Carlisle, went BOS at the Canadian National under Betty Stites and BOB at the field trial/conformation show under Janet Wayock. Her brother, Whimsy’s Wolverhampton, went WD. Am.Can.Ch. Whimsy’s Starbucks JC took a select award at the Canadian National and has 50 pts and placements at Canadian trials. His brother, Whimsy’s Caffe Latte, is well on his way to finishing, including a 5-pt win at an AWC support show under Carol Esterkin. Our future stars include Starbucks first litter out of Mimbres Frosta Frolic. Watch for Whimsy’s Our Miss Brooks and her sisters in the rings this spring. And Carly and Ch. Jade’s Ice Dream Man of Whyme’s baby, Whimsy’s The Single Guy, a fawn and white bundle of fun, will be seen later in ‘97.
