1995 American Whippet Club Whippet Annual
Pages 77 through 101
(SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh x Ch. Wistwind's Twinkle, LCM, CanFCh)
Still searching for that elusive I point, Rosebud RAN through '95 and completed her Canadian FCh and her LCM. She topped off the year in December by going BOB for 40 points in PA.
During the Ontario Sighthound Association in Canada this summer, Rosebud was WB and BOW at the Hamilton Kennel Club Booster show under Lloyd Allewell for 5 points. We hope '96 is just as successful for her!
Special thanks to Juanita Irwin for her handling and TLC
Nicole won her AKC Field Championship with three impressive majors of five, five, and four points. She had previously achieved her ASFA Field title in only five trials with two firsts and three first-place ties (which she had to forfeit due to injuries). She has great speed, enthusiasm, and agility; unfortunately, her intelligence has led her to the conclusion that the object of the game is to catch, rather than pursue, the bunny, which she now consistently tries to ambush. So much for "follow"! This sweet-natured, eager-to-please bitch is now deep into Agility training and hopes to be competing for her AD title this year.
Bred by: Sharon Sakson, Fred Bunn, & C.L. Rawlings
Thank you to all my friends in the ring and on the field for their warm and kind words.

Reggie earned his ASFA LCM on 31 July '94 and his AKC FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP on 6 August '95. He is also half way to his LCM2. For the second year in a row, he has won the CHANDELLE CUP for being the highest scoring sighthound with an obedience title at the two-day DASH trials October '95. Reggie is also conformation pointed.
Reggie thanks all his judges for recognizing his athletic abilities! And we thank all our coursing friends for making this such an enjoyable sport!

Jacob made history winning SBIS at the 1995 M.A.W.A. Specialty, becoming the only black in the history of the breed to win a Specialty. His creation was long planned by Glenda Durance, Cherche Sighthounds. He is the product of the old Elysian black line, which had its beginning in 1963 with a breeding to the outstanding black dog of his day, Ch. Pennyworth Nevertheless, combined with a double-up on our Multi SBIS Ch. Elysian A-Few Perrier, LCM.
Jacob was bred by Glenda Durance and James R. Gray, MD, presented by Chris Durance-Hatcher, and owned by Susan Burgess, Glenda Durance and James R. Gray, MD.

1995 was a year of continued growth for MAWA, having finished the year with sixty-two members. This year, in addition to holding its 2nd Specialty, the club supported the Whippet entry at the Classic City Kennel Club show in May at the Sighthound Spectacular that is becoming an annual event in Athens, GA. The spring supported entry was judged by Mr. Tom Kirstein and Sweeps was judged by Mr. Stewart Holcomb. Mr. Kirstein awarded Ch. Bar'O's Suwanee of O'Run Best of Breed and Mr. Holcomb found TnT's Wandering Dustbunnie as Best in Sweeps (neither pictured). Ms. Pam DeJourneau judged a Whippets-only Sanctioned B matched in August sponsored by MAWA. Our public education program headed up by Ms. Kathy Shearer continues to draw many visitors wherever she sets up shop.
The 2nd Annual MAWA Specialty was held on October 12, 1995, with an entry of 129 in the breed under Ms. Marylou Harris and 40 in Sweeps under Mrs. Linda Garwacki. Ms. Dianne Bleecker (Morshor) has established the "Davin Cup" as a challenge trophy in memory of SBIS Am.Can.Ch. Morshor's Majestic Dell, ROMX, LCM, SC to be awarded each year to the Best of Breed at the MAWA specialty show. The club supported the Whippet entry of 146 under Ms. Janet Wilcox the following day at the Atlanta Kennel Club show. Ms. Lesley Potts judged a sweepstakes entry of 53.
MAWA hosted four ASFA field trials and three AKC trials and three AKC trials and tests during the year. In 1994, the Vernon Dill Challenge Cup, awarded each year at the December trials, went to the Whippet, TnT's The Joker, LCM, owned by Larry and Donna Richards.

1995 was an excellent year! Seven more Paris Whippets finished their breed championships, four more became AKC Dual Champions. Ch. Paris Winter Weather went Best (n Show his first weekend in Russia, at the Moscow Dog Show over 4,000 entries. Ch. Paris Panther gained his sixth championship title in Europe, and was Best of Breed over 70 entries at the pretigious Longchamps-Paris show under whippet expert Robert Stock, Courthill Whippets.
Paris Plainsman began his career with a major and a Best of Breed win over many specials, and Paris Beatrix began her career going Best in Sweeps in Boston, under breeder Claire Newcombe, Pennyworth Whippets.
We applaud the accomplishements of many good friends: Leila Downen and her Diablesse Whippets; Joe Franchi and his new litter of Franaro Whippets; Gretchen Vanderford upon finishing the outstanding Ch. Paris Play With Fire; Julia Lobova and Vadim Retzsov for winning the Group with Paris Plenty of Money; Jenny McCartney for her major wins in Canada with Dual Ch. Paris Diablesse Quinn. And so many more.
Our triumphs outnumbered our disappointments, and so we look forward to 1996 with anticipation and a sense of impending excitement! Onwards!Paris Whippets
