1995 American Whippet Club Whippet Annual
Pages 1 through 25

Pictured on the cover is a young Ch. Sporting Field's Kinsman. As the sun sets on "Luke" in this photo, it also now sets on his career. Luke is the grandson of Ch. Sporting Field's Clansman, the top winning whippet in the U.S., with 59 all-breed Best in Shows. Luke is the second all-time all-breed Best in Show winning whippet in the U.S., with 59 all-breed Best in Shows, 56 of them in the U.S. and 3 in Canada. He is the winner of over 170 Group Firsts in the U.S. and the winner of the AWC National Specialty in 1992, awarded by Mrs. J.E. Clark. Luke is Sporting Field's fifth generation of Best in Show winners, followed by his grandson SBIS and BIS Ch. Sporting Field's Jazz Fest.
Sporting Field's has been breeding and exhibiting whippets for 29 years and has produced over 100 U.S. champions. In 1967, Sporting Field's was established by the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. Butt, with the purchase of a whippet bitch. The Butt's daughter, Debbie, carries on the Sporting Field tradition by consistently breeding and exhibiting top quality whippets.

The American Whippet Club
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT -
The year 1995 proved to be one of change for the American Whippet Club. Several significant events occurred and several committee Chairs changed hands.
On the health scene, Dr. Connie Austin distributed the results of the first-ever Whippet Health Survey to the membership. Dr. Connie Brunkow represented the AWC at the American Kennel Club's first genetics conference. The American Whippet Club is very thankful to these two for their many hours of service to the breed.
The Futurity saw several changes this year. Congratulations to Jo Meister on suc cessfully completing her first year as Futurity Chairman. At the Annual Meeting, the membership voted to change the eligibility for nominated litters by requiring sires and dams to have current CERF numbers. This rule will take effect beginning with the 1997 Futurity.
Chairmanship of the Register of Merit program also changed this year. The AWC thanks Bo Bengtson, Chairman since the program's inception, for his dedication and persistent efforts to improve the program. Barbara Parsons has agreed to take over this position, in addition to her job of conformation statistician.
Barbara Koch resigned her position as NPR Director effective December 31, 1995. Thank you, Barbara, for the many years you have devoted to this position. Jack McManus will assume duties as Director beginning January 1, 1996.
Other Chairmen, Newsletter and Annual Editors, and Club Officers remained the same. I am sure the entire membership joins me in thanking everyone for their contributions of time, money and enterprise. Keep up the good work ! ! !

We have great hopes for Cosmo to continue the family tradition of the multi-purpose whippet. He is pictured at 10 months. Sister "Saffron", Bitterblue's Twilight Time, chose not to stand for her photo. We hope to feature her at a later date!
It was a year of ups and downs. Along with the joy of new puppies, we also mourn the passing of old friends . .

Our lawn and white male has many attributes we love to see - very sound, balanced angles front and rear without exaggeration, and the balanced movement that follows, extraordinary depth of brisket - and those big, black eyes on a handsome male head dripping pigment.
In limited showing, Devon is lacking only one of those hard-to-find majors to finish. Watch for this striking dog as we look for majors at the summer shows.
