The American Whippet Club

The American Whippet Club National ,

Point Race Annual Report, 1993

Statistical Highlights of the Year:

Our numbers increased from 1992...this year we held 34 NPR's...5 more than the year before! The grand total for Whippets running this year is 983: 938 adults and 45 puppies. And since this is 1993, there were no Spay/Neuters!! We had six NPR's that hosted more than 40 Whippets: our National NPR in Dallaslast May...42 Whippets! Also in May, Bluegrass Whippet Club hosted 41, and Greater St. Louis Whippet Club the same, May 29th; Jersey Rag Racers had 46 at their annual Fourth of July extravaganza, and also in July, Bluegrass Whippet Club with 42; September 11th saw Tri-State Whippet Club hosting 44! Nice numbers and thanks to all the Clubs for their hosting efforts!

Whippet behavior was excellent in '93...only 4 fouls....2 adults and 2 pup pies! Those Whippets earning Award of Racing Merit Certificates number eight for the year; that is two more than last. That list is included elsewhere in this NPR report. Again, the top winning Whippet for the year is Windyglen's Tuff Enuff ARM/ORC, proudly owned by Ann & Bill McMath of Graham, Texas! Also included with this report, is a listing of NPR Racing Champions, 1959 - 1993. Other top winning Whippets for the year are Wheatland's Orange Crush Oueenie's Blaz-N White Sox, Loveman of Chaparral, Lyth Amazing Grace Windsong Mangus Colorado Blarneystone's Shoreline Jet, Barje's Blitzen Benz, Windy Glen's Psycho Killer...all these have earned the ARM title and other titles as well. And for their achievements, we salute them!

The NPR Calendar for 1994 is almost complete, and will be included with this report. Also, a new listing of Host Clubs and Directors has been updated, and it , too, is included. Changes and additions to each of these documents will be printed in the monthly AWC Whippet News Newsletter.

For 1994, the AWC National Specialty Show and NPR Racing Activities will be in the state of Washington, near Olympia, and the host hotel is: Tyee Hotel, 500 Tyee Dr., Olympia WA 98502. The NPR Race will be Saturday, April 9th. Please send your NPR Entries by March 31st to:

Beverly McKibbin, Race Chairman, POB 1317, Yelm,
WA 98597 Tele: 206/458-3563

Anyone wishing to make NPR trophy donations, please contact Bev McKibbin or me. We'll make sure your name appears in the National NPR Race Program.

As in the last few years, the WAG Racing Club has graciously dedicated one of their NPR meets to the AWC Whippet Rescue Fund, and again, for '94, this event will be repeated August 20th Goldendale WA.

Looking ahead into this New Year, some changes will be made within our program. What we need is more income to keep up with expenses and to get up-tospeed with reporting race results! To achieve this, NPR will do what the NOTRA program has successfully accomplished these last few years; i.e., increase the per capita fee to $1.00 each dog per race entry, and implement a $2.00 charge for the one time AKC registration form that must be sent to the NPR National Race Director. These fees will then help pay for the service of having our race results kept on a computer. Sam Banks has volunteered to do this computing for us. The system will work as follows: after each race, that evening or the next day, the Race Secretary will fax or phone Sam the results, and this info will be on file with him. He will then be able to keep current all the averages of all Whippets in our program, and this will enable all info to be given via mail or fax to the next scheduled NPR Race & Race Secretary. In other words, we will be doing what the NOTRA program has successfully managed these last few years...accurate point ratings of each Whippet in our NPR Program. This will
not be a substitute for the written report which still MUST be Sent to the National Race Director, so that ARM points can be awarded! I am grateful to Sam for offering this service, and I think we will all find it most helpful.

Thus, statistically, we have documented the year past, and now we look forward to the first of many NPR's in '94....and that first one is: Celina, TX, February 19th, hosted by WAS-IT.
