NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WHIPPET FANCIERS ASSOCIATION, INC. ... EST. 1964.
1993 was a year of unprecedented growth for the NCWFA. Many new members were added, bringing the membership roster up over 100, new ideas blossomed, and fun was had by all! The club held four ASFA and 2 AKC lure trials, sponsored two NAWRA / NOTRA racing weekends, and held a well attended "Whippet Extravaganza Weekend" of a Specialty Match, Judged by Cora Miller, and two Supported entries. Our rescue Program was re-organized under the guidance of Jeannette Pozzi, and later new coordinator Carol Gregory, and seven dogs were rescued and placed in loving homes. Many club whippets were in the laurels in 1993. Special mention should go to the Beetz's fabulous running mother and son, FCh. Windy Glen's Midnight Sun, LCM II, CGC and Fch. Alchemy Doc Whitehair, ASFA Fch., who both blazed to their AKC titles this year. In the show ring, Martha Fielder's Ch. Crestfield Viceroy was twice a group winner, Carol Curry's Ch. Locar's Joker's Wild and Ch. Locar;s Datani Total Eclipse were Select Award winners, and Wendy Gay's Grand Prix's Cisco Kid was BOS in Sweeps at the Western Specialty! 1994 should prove to be another exciting year for the NCWFA. Many lure trials are planned, two more weekends of racing are planned, and in August, our Second Annual Match and Supported Entries. Come and join us for any or all of these events! Julia took the mommy track in 1993, whelping a lively litter of eight on April 6, sired by Ch. Broadstrider By George. Due to the demands of motherhood, she was only shown three times during the year. Before maternity leave, she was Reserve under Katrina Hamilton and in August she was Winner's Bitch for a major at the NCWFA Supported Entry under Jon Cole. Julia will be shown in 1994 until she again takes time out for a linebred Fall litter. Inquiries invited. MILESCROSS WHIPPETS Guinevere Borstell 63 Jersey St., San Francisco, CA 94114 415/826-8853

Grand Prix's Word Perfect, FCh (Ch. Locar's Bar None, FCh, CD, SC x Grand Prix's Genuine Risk, CDX, SC) LURE COURSING Lucy has her ups and downs out there on the coursing trail, but she came through for Sue and Shannon as we knew she would. In 1993, she earned her FCh title. Hurray, Lucy!!! Lucy just did it her way. We love your spunk! Lucy is out there enjoying bunny chasing in pursuit of more titles for Racing and AKC Lure Coursing. OBEDIENCE LURE COURSING Barney has been the perfect whippet. He has always done everything we have asked of him. My husband, Rod, will always regret saying: "If you put 2 titles on Barney, I'll put on his 3rd." Well, with much proding from me, he did put that CD (third) title on "his" dog. Barney and Rod have both made me proud. Thanks for all the hard work, boys!!! Breeder: Carol Curry GRAND PRIX WHIPPETS ¨ 805 Evergreen St. ¨ Menlo Park, CA 94025 ¨ 415-324-4141 “ BO " Grand Prix's Cisco Kid, JC (SBIS Ch. Locar's Martini on the Rocks x Locar Datani Partial Eclipse, JC) We are very proud of our young man, Bo. At the Lompoc Specialty weekend (handled by Dan Silva) in July, he went Best Opposite in the Puppy Sweeps over 70+ dogs. He then went on to either win or place in his class under all the other judges of the weekend (Mr. Consistency). Only shown very little to date, he has earned 8 points. His most recent accomplishment was going BOB over specials at the Wine Country Kennel Club show in November and then on to a Group 2 win. NORTH AMERICAN WHIPPET RACING ASSOCATION REPORT, 1993 In 1993 the 11 Member Clubs of the North American Whippet Racing Association sponsored 32 racemeets, with adult entries totalling 978 adult Whippets. Only one meet had less than 20 adult entries; 15 had 20+ entries, 9 had 30+ entries, 4 had 40+ and 2 had 50 +, and the 3rd National, held in Riverton, Utah, had 83 entries. The average entry was 30.6 dogs, and the following dogs earned their Race Championships in 1993:
David Gill, NAWRA Registrar-Recordkeeper Presenting THE 1993 NORTH AMERICAN WHIPPET RACING CHAMPION
MYSTICAL MIRAGE R.CH., S.R. CH. (Shady Character, Character, ARM, ORC x Lyth Windle, ARM) HER '93 NAWRA RECORD: 14 MEETS Including HIGH SCORE IN MEET at the 1993 NAWRA NATIONAL RACE MEET - where she attained the final points for her Supreme Race Champion title - just 3 days short of her second birthday! In a wild and wonderful year, that included time off for toe surgery and two seasons, Musti still managed to collect enough national points to become '93's NAWRA National Champion. And just to round out the year, she bagged her 1st NPR in L.A. in December! Musti's looking forward to '94, hoping for perhaps a rematch with a certain Texan in April at the NPR Nationals (with the new kid from north of the border thrown in ...??) and of course, playing "hostess" to the 1994 NAWRA Nationals, to be held at Bradley Farms September 24th. Thanks to all for a great year's racing. We've made many new friends and are eagerly awaiting the '94 season. Good racing to all!

Trochee Final Analysis (Ch. Morshor's Majestic Prince, ROMX x Aymes N Raybar's Miss Oceana) At the AWC National in Dallas:
These classes were judged by Mrs. Lorraine Groshans. Thank you Chris D. Hatcher for your superb handling. At the MAWA Supported Entry:
At the AWC Southern Specialty:
Alice 's wins were from the 6-9 Puppy Bitch Class, owner-handled. Thank you, Judges, for helping to make 1993 a wonder year at Trochee !
Ch. Chelsea Prelude to a Kiss, ROM (Ch. Allerei's Cabin Fever, LCM x Ch. Spectre Chalcedony, ROM) Chelsea 1993 Although not our "biggest winner," Whitney is, by far, the most favored child. Her show career was hampered by, her doting mother. In blunt terms, she was held back simply because her Mom wouldn't let her "go play." Despite her handicap, she had many exciting wins, several owner-handled. the most exciting was her winterHound Group I at Long Beach K C, 1988.
We are fiercely proud of all of our Whitney kids. Their beauty is the "type" we wish to be known for. It is fitting that she would fulfill the requirements for her OM title from two litters. They are far from being "just numbers", as we feel they are a positive contribution to the breed. Whitney's Princess attitude and mannerisms never fail to more us. She is highly treasured by us and by those who know her and her children. Whitney will be bred for her third and final litter in 1994.
Chelsea 1993
Multi SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh, R OM (Whippoorwill Moonstone, ROM x Ch. Chelsea Saffron, ROM) "Drake" continues to be our steady friend. He embodies the movement we wish to be known for. As a natural progression of events, his puppies are a great source of joy. In concert with wonderful bitches, he has produced multiple BlSweeps winners, Group winners, Specialty point winners, Field Champions and BIS winners (1 who has been in the Top Ten in the U.S. for the past 2 years). He is the sire of the #1 Sighthound in Finland in 1992, 1993 and the #2 Whippet in Brazil as well. We could go on and on, but space does not permit. Drake's future seems secure as a sound, consistent producer of quality. His puppies excel in his smoothness, body, movement and his sweet nature. We wish to thank each and every thoughtful breeder for entrusting Drake to be a part of their future. Virtually retired from current showring competition, Drake will make a new career for himself as a grand of veteran at selected specialties. We've been told he only gets better.
Tracer's Kelly of Fermanagh, F.Ch. "Kelly"
(Dyna's Hi Command of Wyndsor, ARM, ORC x Tracer's Contender) Kelly had a fantastic year in 1992 - she finished her AKC Field Championship at the National in Dallas, going B.O.B. with a 5 point major (her 4th major). She also finished her ASFA LCM. She teamed up with her kennel-mate, Bear, and won the Kennel Stakes at the National and again at the 1993 ASFA I.I. Kelly should be back in the show ring this year. Bear ended 1992 as the #1 AKC All-Breed Coursing Hound. In 1993, Bear continued to compete in all events (U-Val & NPR racing, show and cours ing). He completed his ASFA LCM I and should have finished his LCM 2 by this publication. Bear, handled by Lesley Anne Potts, placed in the ARM Class at the National in Dallas - then teamed up with his kennel-mate Kelly to win Kennel Stakes in the ASFA Field Trial at the National and the ASFA I.I. Bear was also #1 Versatility Whippet at the annual July 4th weekend at JRRWA in Delaware.
