(Ch. Wildfires Tradewinds x Ch. Chin-Ups Nightsong, C.D.) (Ch.Amir's Magic OSangaree x Ch. Amir's Summer Song) MEG, and our new little girl, FLING, are everything an owner can be proud of. Meg is major-pointed and will be bred in ‘92, inquiries welcome.
“Lilly” has continued to be rarely shown but added to her record during 1991: in addition to All-Breeds & AWC Specialty BIS she has won numerous major Breeds, Specialty weekend BOS, and multiple Group placements. Always a favorite with “movement judges” and experienced hound specialists, she will continue to be seen in only the best company until bred this spring. Above, Lilly is seen at the American Whippet Club Top Twenty tournament earlier in 1991 together with judges Mrs. Nenne Runsten, Mr. Robert Boswell and Mrs. Christine Hopperstad. It was an exciting experience with wonderful comments from judges and spectators alike. Inquiries about Lilly's upcoming litter invited.
During the past eight years, at least a dozen Whippets entirely or partly owned, bred, shown and/or sold by Bohem have won major awards during American Whippet Club specialty weekends (including at least five AWC Specialty BIS and six AWC Specialty BOS). This has been in spite of breeding less than a litter per year and very limited showing - but with much help from talented co-owners, puppy buyers, and others. Our thanks to them all! The “kennel” currently consists of Aria (who will be nine years old this spring), her white daughter Bohem La Boheme (18 months) and look-alike granddaughter Bohem Of Thee I Sing (six months), whom we hope to show during 1992. Special thanks to Lynne Schanzle for “Betsy”! Bo Bengtson - 1912 Mission Ridge Road - Santa Barbara, CA 93103
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
The Northern California Whippet Fanciers Association (NCWFA) was organized in 1964 and is one of the premier regional Whippet breed clubs in California, if not the United States. The NCWFA sponsors a multitude of activities each year, including lure coursing, straight racing and oval track racing. Our members are also very active in showing, obedience trials, agility and open field coursing. This past year, WINSOME AMPLIFAX RCH, owned and bred by member David Gil, ~ the National NAWRA Race Champion. Also, WINDY GLENS MIDNIGHT SUN, LCM, owned by members Bruce and Christie Beetz, was BOB at the international Invitational in Colorado and is also in the ASFA Top Ten. In addition to Amplifax and Sunny, other new title holders for 1991 include: • WINSOME SIREN, CD,FCH (Patty Burt) • JAGUAR'S BARELY THERE, LCM (Patty Burt) • LOCAR'S CREME DE COCAO, JC (GuinBorstel,) • WINSOME LAZER LIGHTS, RCH (Mitch & Christine Ciprianó) • WINDY GLEN'S AUTUMN BURNING, RCH (Mitch & Christine Cipriano) • Ch. However, our most rewarding activity is Whippet Rescue. The purpose of Rescue is to find permanent Loving homes for abandoned, abused, or neglected Whippets~ as well as Whippets whose owners can no longer keep them. This past year, theNCWFA has placed over 20 Whippets in new homes.
The NCWFA also publishes a monthly newsletter, SPEED, with articles of interest to both experienced and novice Whippet owners. 1991 saw the creation of the NCWFA produced “IT'S A WHWPET. . . YES, IT'S FAST.. . No, IT'S NOT HUNGRY ” T-shirts, benefiting Rescue, worn by proud Whippet owners from coast to coast. :For more~information about the NCWFA or its activities, contact: GUINEVERE BORSTEL, SECRETARY
(Ch. Sporting Fields Strider, ROM x Ch. Whippoorwill Bohem Aria, ROM) 6 months - first show, first major, judge Mrs. Gayle Bontecou * 14 months -first time in the big league, final cut of four (three 815 winners and Gable!) at the American Whippet Club Midwest weekend under breeder-judge Mrs. Barbara Rupert. Gable is only 18 months old and maturing beautifully. He will be seen on ‘~special” occasions next year, handled by his owner, his breeder or Julie Secovnie. Watch out for him! Gable is at stud to suitable bitches
(Ch. Bohem American Way x Ch. Whippoorwill Bohem Aria) “Kelly” joined us last fall and quickly became a favorite among Poodles and human beings at Manakin Farms. She finished with two Breeds from the classes, shown by her breeder and Damara Bolte, defeating top-rated specials on the way, and first time out as a special was BOS over multiple Group-winning competition under breeder-judge Carol Willumsen. She will be showing her owner in the specials ring on occasion during 1992. (We've never done it before, so be patient with us!) And there may even be puppies later on...
(Eng. Ch. Novacroft Madrigal x Eng.Ch. Belinda of Hardknott,) We would have liked to print a complete list of all the champions sired by “Max,” but we don't even have the names of all the overseas winners. We do know that he has sired well over 30 champions, mostly in the U.S. of course, but others as far apart as Scandinavia and Brazil, and we hope he will have puppies in Australia as well in 1992. Among his kids and grandchildren in the U.S. are numerous Specialty and All-Breed BIS winners. His three recent litters in the U.S. and Canada look wonderful and include a daughter who finished by going BOB over five specials at nine months, and others will make the debuts in the new year. Max has won the Stud Dog class at three different AWC specialties. He is one of the few direct links to the great old English bloodlines which have combined so well with U.S. pedigrees in the grand tradition of Courtenay Fleetfoot of Pennyworth, Greenbrae Barndance, Tantiwey DiverofPennyworth, Charmoll Clansman, and many others. We are very proud of him!
(Ch. OBailees Brittania x Ch. Whippoorwill Sonatina) Paulette began her show career by winning Best in Match at seven months. Winning the Breed over Group-winning Specials under Everett Dean Jr., Paulette is shown above winning the Hound Group over BIS hounds at Old Dominion Kennel Club under Carol Esterkin. She also won BOW & BOS over Specials at the Somerset Hills AWC support show under Edna “Midge” Martin. Paulette completed her Championship from the Bred-by-Exhibitor class under breeder-judge Joan Goldstein.
Western Washington Whippet Association President: Christine Hopperstad 1991 - another year of growth for the Western Washington Whippet Association. We held our first sanctioned A-OA Specialty match along with five ASFA lure trials, 2 AKC test runs, and AKC lure trial 2 NAWRA/NOTRA race weekends. Keeping busy throughout the year not only with the above mentioned events but we have a monthly newsletter, weekly race practice, and active rescue group that placed 4 homeless Whippets this year. We held handling classes, several Whippet walks an educational tables dispensing information on our breed at major shows and regional fairs. Our membership continues to grow, adding 8 new member's. At the same time we said good—bye to some beloved doggie friends and introduced some new ones.
Our unique hard—working group also enjoys relaxing together and can organize a great pot—luck at a moments notice. To experience our own brand of Pacific Northwest hospitality, plan on attending the ultimate pot-luck: The 94 National Specialty.

(SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, F.Ch. x Ch. Chelsea Take My Breath Away) “Vixen” was owner-handled (in California) to a BOB over 2 top ten specials (from the classes), then went on to a Group 3! Thank you Dr. Greathouse! Vixen's superior quality is what made these wins, for this owner-handler, possible. For that (and for their friendship and encouragement), we gratefully thank Lee and Deann Christianson.
(Whippoorwill Moonstone x Ch. Chelsea Saffron, ROM) Among Drake's many achievements, lure coursing is the latest. He, again, proved himself a force to be reckoned with by completing his Field Championship in FIVE trials within 1 1/2 months time from start to finish. Drake was only exhibited a total of 12 times in the show ring in 1991. The results: 2 SBIS AWC National Specialty Award 6 BOB 2 Hound Group I, 2 Hound Group II, 1 Hound Group III We are not driven to achieve the almighty number 1 in the rankings. It is our goal, however, to produce a strong, consistent line of whippets treading the slippery path between soundness and beauty. Color being immaterial. Just as important, we desire a line of sound, outgoing temperaments. Their mere existence is our pleasure. We love them not for what they may do for us in the show ring or the field, but for their unique individual personalities that each one gives to our family.
Mystery's titles and performance says it all. Her record includes: She ends 1991 with: Mystery will continue to course and race in 1992, but watch for an outstanding breeding to happen with Lyth Joker (Satus x Domino) sometime in late 1992 or 1993. Congratulations to Lyth Amazing Grace, ARM (litter sister) on being the #1 NPR bitch, Blarneystone Shoreline Jet, ARM (1/2 brother) on being National Race Champion on NPR. And 1/2 sister Blarneystone Amarillo, possible #1 ASFA whippet. Mystery was bred by Lord & Lady Lewis, who still produce the best! Thanks ‘Arry!!! owned / loved / trained by: FLYN' DUST WHIPPETS
(SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, F.Ch. x Oh. Chelsea Prelude to a Kiss) “Carter” finished his championship undefeated in the Open class with 3 majors; he got his majors the Midwest weekend by going Winners Dog all three days. “Carter” has lovely breed type with a lovely open side gait. He is expecting his first litter in January out of Ch. Oxford's Paloma of Chelsea. Oxford is proud of the dogs finished in 1991:
RUTH GILPIN • SHARON MARQUIS • FRANK ZANIN ![]() DYLAN Totally Whippet from his nose to the tip of his tail, our silver brindle finished his championship in April after picking up three 4-point majors on the January circuit, one at an AWC supported entry. WIZARD Still maturing, he came out for a few shows and his first points. A sound and pretty lemon fawn and white, Wizard has a gorgeous headpiece with large, dark eyes. FIRE — Our fabulous Fire started his career off with a bang and is nearing completion of his championship. Many thanks to DR. CHARLES BILLINGS for an unforgettable win at the AWC supported entry in July. He awarded Fire BOB over 12 specials from the Bred-by class for a 5-point major!
![]() My favorite brood bitch, Am.Can.Ch. Surrey Hill's I'm No Angel, F.Ch., was also Mrs. Errickson's favorite brood bitch at the AWC Southern Specialty. “Katie” is pictured with our youngest champion ever - Ch. Surrey Hill's My Vindication (finished 2 weeks later at age 8 months) - who was BOW the day before, and Surrey Hill's Uncommon Valor, who went RWB at the specialty. Katie is producing beautiful expressions, clean backskulls, front fill, and exceptional outlines. Watch for these winners: Also sired by Gh. Gold-Dust Joint Venture: Don't be fooled by their sweet expressions! They're “no angels”! (Well, Dawn is, sort of...) Owner: Karen Bowers Lee Co-owner /Co-breeder:
