1991 American Whippet Club Whippet Annual Pages 1 through 25
"George" and "Clover" are littermates sired by Ch. Morshor's Majestic Prince, ROM out of Ch. Hamrya's Moon Scape v Tyobi. They are featured on this year's cover because both have been outstanding producers. In very limited breeding (fifteen litters), George is the sire of twelve champions with many more close to finishing their titles. In addition to being the winner of the Stud Dog Class at this year's American Whippet Club National Specialty, he was the sire of Winners Dog (Ch. Starline's How Sweet It Is), Reserve Winners dog (Ch. Starline's Reign On) and a Select Award winner (multiple BIS & BISS Ch. Starline's Claim To Fame). All are littermates out of BISS Ch. Ringmaster's Gold Fever. He is the sire of the six month old multiple BOB-winning Broadstrider's By George, Best in Sweeps and Best of Winners at the 1991 AWC Southern Specialty. Other notable get for 1991 are the Group-winning Ch. Merci Isle Deep Woods, multiple Group-placing Ch. Delight's Split Image and George's granddaughter, Ch. Sporting Fields Anecho of Promise, who was Best in Sweeps at the 1991 AWC Midwest Specialty, entry of 141. Thank you to all for sending your lovely bitches to George and making 1991 an extra special year. Clover is the dam of three champions: Ch. Hamrya's Teacher's Pet (Best of Winners, Best Puppy and Select at seven months old at the 1989 AWC National, Winners Bitch at the 1989 AWC Southern Specialty and Select at the 1990 AWC National), Ch. Hamrya's Night Flight (Best in Sweeps at the 1990 AWC Western Specialty) and Ch. Hamrya's Ice Breaker (Best in Futurity at four months of age at the 1991 AWC National Specialty). In addition, the following are all major-pointed: Hamrya's Midnight Savannah, Hamrya's Night's A Fire, Hamrya's Ice Folly, Hamyra's Desert Ice Delight and Hamrya's Ice Ice Baby. HAMRYA Donna D. Lynch

The American Whippet Club A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - 1991 started with the 5th National and 8th Futurity in St. Louis, Missouri. What a tremendous success with 246 entered in the Futurity and 20 in the Maturity. The regular classes saw 66 Obedience entries and 484 breed entries - once again a record. One of the highlights of the National was the evening at the Dog Museum to view the Shearer Collection which was on loan from the AKC. The evening was capped off by the presentation of the AWC tile to the Museum which was carried aboard the space shuttle, Discovery in 1990. The educational seminars, eye clinic and Judge's workshop were all a tremendous success. With all these activities being packed into a few days it may be time to increase the number of days for the National. As we grow in number more problems arise. The Board can only function effectively on problems if the members communicate their wishes. Cooperation and communication are the key words needed to effectively run the AWC. Without this from the members we can only surmise all is well with the actions of the Board of Directors. Perhaps it is time for reorganization of the AWC and to solicit new and energetic members to let themselves be known and to take an active role. Hopefully the revision of the Constitution and By-Laws will be finalized this year and presented to the membership for their consideration. I would like to encourage all of you to be aware of the anti-dog legislation that is being proposed in several states. The laws that are being proposed could dramatically affect the serious and conscientious breeder. I am also distressed about the number of whippets appearing and shelters and pet shops. Each of us has a duty as a whippet owner and breeder to assist in rescue and to investigate those responsible for these whippets being in the above situations. I would like to thank everyone that has supported me these past few years and I hope you will continue to be supportive to your officers and Board of Directors. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the 6th National Specialty and annual meeting in Frederick , Maryland in April, 1992.

(Ch. Inxs Victor x Wolfram Wynmor Bengal Lady, LCM) "Babe" was major pointed and awarded BOS over a group placing special at the Western Pennsylvania Kennel Association's 3/30/91 show by breeder-judge Mrs. Joan Goldstein. She was also pointed by Mrs. Lee Canalizo, as pictured. Both times she was capably handled by her friend Mr. Mark Callahan. At this year's Midwest Specialty, she placed third in the Bred-By-Exhibitor class with Mrs. Mary Beth Arthur judging. Thank you all for appreciating "Babe" and her free and easy way of moving. A thank you also to Mr. Tom G. Rainey, who awarded "Lady" (Babe's dam) her second major at the Marion Ohio Kennel Club show 7/28/91 and commented on her excellent condition.

1991 marked the first year of activity for the Continental Whippet Alliance (CWA). The CWA was established to promote, protect and preserve purebred Whippet racing and provide a friendly and enjoyable environment for sportsmanlike competition. To emphasize its dual-purpose objectives, CWA events combine 200 yard flat racing with conformation competition. At the conclusion of each CWA Race Meet, the top racers in each grade compete in a conformation match to recognize the Breed Standard as well as speed. Spayed/neutered Whippets are allowed to compete in both racing and conformation competition. A total of twelve CWA events were conducted in 1991 at: 1) Antioch, Illinois, 2) Hamilton , Ohio, 3) Milwaukee, Wisconsin and 4) Danville, Illinois. Events were sponsored by five host clubs or groups: 1) Dairyland Whippet Club, 2) Badgerland Whippet Club, 3) Fort Hamilton Whippet Association, 4) Gopher State Whippet Racing Group and 5) CU Racing Club. Each club or group appoints two members to serve on the CWA Board of Directors. Judges of the 1991 Conformation Competitions were: 1) Kathi Randall, 2) Ralph Eyles, 3) Cindy Bellis-Jones, 4) Anthony Gutilla, 5) Loralyn Senger, 6) Mary Huff, 7) June Mastracola, 8) Jean Schroeder, 9) Judy Ward, 10) Larry Wittman, 11) Eugene Jacobs, and 12) Connie Brunkow, DVM. The CWA awards three titles to deserving Whippets: TRP (Title of Racing Proficiency) - This title recognizes Whippets demonstrating a basic level of proficiency in Whippet racing. Six dogs earned the TRP in 1991 by satisfactorily completing ten adult race meets. ARX (Award of Racing Excellence) - This title recognizes Whippets demonstrating a high level of performance and speed in Whippet racing. Three dogs earned the ARX in 1991 by accumulating the required 12 ARX points. DPC (Dual Purpose Champion) - This title recognizes those unique Whippets who have earned either the TRP or ARX, plus achieved recognition in conformation competition by earning an AKC or CKC bench championship or winning five CWA conformation competitions. Only one Whippet earned this coveted title during 1991. With an expanded number of CWA events planned in the future, together with many new promising pups entering the program, 1992 promises to be an exciting year.
