SALLY IS, TOO !!
With limited showing, Sally was supposed to keep us busy in the classes for some time. However, she prefered a short career and conspired with the judges to assure it. In a streak of fall wins, Sally finished her championship, and is now where she prefers it — in front of the fire.

The American Whippet Club
For the second annual A.W.C. Futurity, judge Calvin Perry had an overwhelming entry of 107 beautiful young Whippets. Riddlefield and the weather man joined hands to provide us with a perfect day for competition, good food and friendship. The quality in the classes was deep and the comradery between exhibitors even deeper.
To add a flamboyant touch to the whole affair, a costumed Whippet introduced each of the classes. The class winners received an AWC medallion, a money payback, and a jogging suit. Mr. Perry's final choice for Best In Futurity came from the
12-15 Junior Dog class, Barchet Turn It Loose, sired by Ch. Plumcreek Chase Manhattan and out of Ch. Morshor's Cross The Water. He was bred and owned by Linda Johnson and Patricia Edwards, DVM and received an engraved silver photo album and $420.00.
After the Best In Futurity judging, there was an exhibition maturity class. Looking glorious, the old ones were not to be outdone. The families were comprised of consecutive generations.
As congratulations were being exchanged, wine and cheese were served and already talk of "wait until next year" was being heard.
Again this year, my thanks to Phoebe Booth (who designed the covers for the catalog and pedigree supplement) and Pat Dresser for their support and total cooperation.

by CALVIN PERRY, Judge
The honor and thrill of a lifetime – that's what judging the 1985 American Whippet Club Futurity was for me. Thanks to all involved for the hospitality extended to me –especially Sandy Jones.
What beautiful whippet babies! Not being a "puppy lover", I was de lighted with the quality in depth of the younger classes. I'll try to high light entries that have remained in my mind's eye. (This being written six months later) Not all classes or individuals will be named.
3-5 Months Dogs
One of the most pleasing classes of nine very promising individuals. First to Elysian Applause, owned by Sandy Motz and Jim Gray. A black with white trim, this pup had excellent bone, good movement and a pleasing top line. Second to Featherstone's Simon Sez, a really pleasing red pup that was all whippet in outline and type – owned by Pat Foran–DePauw. Third was Britan's Devilieious Frank, a most appealing fawn and white, lovely "face", good top line, but needed training. Fourth to Whippletrees Jai Lai Decision, heavy bone, wonderful dark round eyes – owned by Sharon and Ellen Kirley.
7-9 Months Dogs
This class was dominated by two brothers bred by Dianne Bleecker. First place, Morshor's Texas Oil Slick, owned by Barbara and Richard Koch. Beautifully conditioned and built for speed and beauty. Second place, Morsho r 's Free Runner, a striking black and white pied owned by Dianne Bleecker. Third to Snowflight's Traveling, pure hound (a compliment) but so immature. Fourth was Lindenhall Adrian Messengeer, black with a little white, with attractive head and attitude.
9-12 Months Dogs
First and second also to brothers – Willabe Sprinbok and Willabe Lupercalia. Both were attractive solid brindles of lovely type.
12-15 Months Dogs
First to Barchet Turn It Loose – outstanding fawn and my eventual Best In Futurity. Absolutely correct coming and going, perfect fill in front, lovely neck, head, black eyes, good shoulder angulation, sweeping rear. This excellent entry could have more arch over the loin, but was so correct in breed type and movement that he prevailed. Second to Stoney Meadow's Gold Medal, another pleasing fawn, not quite as outstanding in neck and smoothness of finish as the winner. Third to Konza's Beat The Clock, a stunning black–white Irish marked. A little bouncy in movement, but so lovely to look at. Fourth to Konza's Cassidy, a biggish white pup, good breed type, somewhat "un–tight" in feet on the day.
3-5 Months Bitches
Thirteen lovelies. This class was so exciting to judge – so much quality!! First was Morshor's Saturn Majestic Bid – so reminiscent of last year's Futurity winner. This bitch has all the extra glamour and style one could wish. Wonderful whippet silhouette, perfectly sound. Second and third to sisters, Chelsea Coriander Windborn and Chelsea Saffron. These two hard–pressed the winner, but were less mature. Both had lovely breed type and class. I really adored all three.
7-9 Months Bitches
First and second to sisters, Aymes N'Raybar's Landaluce and Aymes N'Raybar's Heatherten. Lovely reds with white trim. The first prevailed on movement. Excellent silhouettes. Third to Morshor's Speed Queen; very sound but somewhat doggy. Fourth was Frankly Renascent. Even this placement was hard fought. Won by this attractive pink fawn with a lovely face and perfect feet.
9-12 Months Bitches
A flashy brindle and white of correct whippet make and shape, Affinity's Charmkin of Fraja won this class of nine; very feminine. Second to Willabe Gold Edition — similar to First in outline and size. Third and fourth to two outstanding sisters, Sithean's Sophisticated Lady and Sithean's Lucille of Rippleton. These sisters moved with great extension and drive; somewhat up in size for me on the day.
12-15 Months Bitches
Another lovely black, Shamasan Take It Or Leave It — tops in silhouette and whippet—ness. Did not settle in movement enough, but so lovely in type. Second to Morshor Majestic O'Willcare, pure lady in type, but somewhat worse for the wear, after a difficult trip from home.
One brief comment — I do wish the honors could have been spread out more with a Best of Opposite Sex, and perhaps Best Junior Puppy. Maybe next year?
Thanks again for the honor of judging the Second AWC Futurity. I loved every minute of it. The "dearness" of our whippets is only surpassed by that of their owners.

CH. BITTERBLUE'S PRAIRIE FIRE, CD, LCM
"Toucan" would like to introduce some of his talented kids!
BITTERBLUE'S PRAIRIE ZENITH, FCH.
("Toucan" x Stoney Meadow's Mistral)
"Schmooter" has had quite a year. At just over a year of age (born June 26, 1984) he has accomplished the following: Finished his F.Ch. in 5 trials. Two Best In Field in the U.S. and more than halfway to his L.C.M. with 190 points and 3 firsts. He also made his debut in Canada at the International Harvest Run where he was Best In Field and picked up 70 points over the weekend. He also has two CD legs and is an enthusiastic tracker!
"Schmooter's" first litter is expected in the Spring of '86 out of Can.Ch. Hilerica Flying Sky High, Can.C.D., F.Ch.X, LCM.
FLASH!! Schmooter finishes his CD
SITHEAN'S LOLITA BITTERBLUE
("Toucan" x Ch. Stoney Meadow's Chantal)
"Lolita" had a whirlwind puppy career. Entered in only two matches, (one all-breed and one Sighthound Specialty) she was Best In Match at both. Her first show was the AWC Eastern Specialty where she won her class. Then at the tender age of 8 months, she was BOB from the classes over Specials (3) for her first major under Dr. Harry Rymer. She is a very enthusiastic lure courser and will make her debut in November. She will also be entered in her first obedience trial in November.
AND LOOK WHAT BLEW IN FROM NEW MEXICO!
AYMES N'RAYBAR'S TUMBLEWEED
("Toucan" x AmCanCh. Raybar's On The Brink)
"Wembley" shows great promise. Pictured at 3 1/2 months, he is very keen on the lure and is quite intelligent! We can only hope he follow's in the footsteps of his Mom & Dad! Watch for him in '86!
