WHICH WITCH .. its Samantha SBIS Ch. Tumbridge Moors Jubilee Witch (Ch. Moorlands Charles Dickens x Ch. Terrace Hills Sabrina Fair) Samantha, a very sound, elegant, true-whippet type, made history this year by winning the Specialty Show held by the Southern California Whippet Association, the first independent Whippet Specialty held in the United States apart from the AWC - in living memory. There was an entry of. 100, including BIS competition. Samantha was shown sparingly from January to May and brought for the Western Specialty (AWC at Lompoc) where she went BOS to Veteran classic winner "Bouy". In this short period of showing, she has been ranked #6 (but Top Bitch in whippets def eated) by the Whippet Magazine (see Top 20, Sept-Oct issue), placing in most rings where she has been shown. It is with a great negret, but due to the owners Travel Business, that she could not have been shown the rest of the year. Our s incere Thanks and appreciation to the judge 's who credit her outstanding qualities.

This year was a year of major accomplishments for the W.W.R.C. Our racing calendar included 4 NPR race meets, 3 NOTRA (oval) and 3 nights of Exhibition racing at the Multnomah Kennel Club's Greyhound Track. Again this year we enjoyed keenly competitive racing. Club members traveled from the Northern Interior of British Columbia to Southern California to compete in all phases of Whippet activities. TOP DOG IN COUNTRY (You better believe it!): No words can describe the accomplishment's of Tony and Karen Lewis' dog SATUS. SATUS has amassed in one year a record breaking 18 consecutive wins. SATUS is one of those rare animals that come along and is what we all strive to breed for. He truly ranks with the all time greats. It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Tony and Karen on behalf of the W.W.R.C. and wish them and Satus the best in the year to come. 1984 proved to be a highly successful year for the Washington Whippet Racing Club. Club members worked extremely hard and well together to put on the best racing year yet. A special thanks to all our club members and their families who made 1984 a great racing year. A very special thanks to all our club dogs (the A, B, C and D dogs) who make each racing year possible. These special animals that share our home (and beds) have given us all a chance to meet new friends and experience the joys of life that we might have otherwise missed. They may not all be meet winners (there can only be one), but these dogs give their all and are an important part of all phases of Whippet racing. A special recognition goes to Freeway, owned by Melva Graham, for achieving his ARM and becoming the first to do so from Oregon. As a club we have experienced several firsts this past year. Our first drag lure U-vol, which was a resounding success. This was a change from our normal NOTRA rail oval racing and all who participated had a great time. Thanks to Janet Stigum and Don and Jean Wiltse, who gave us our first participation (Club Booth) in a real live bench show (yes for show dogs) in Portland. The show gave us a chance to talk to other hound fanciers and to share the other side of Whippet activities with those who stopped by. A special Thank You to all our friends in Canada, California, Washington and Oregon, whose tremendous support this past year made 1984 a great racing year. Tosca has 8 ARM points and is a constant top ten placer on the East coast. OVERLAND'S YENTA OF JANDALL - Owned by Denise and Lana Rosen. The smallest in the litter, Yenta runs with pure heart and has won the admiration of many. Yenta accumulated 7 ARM points in '84. KENTFIELD'S ELEKTRA - Owned by David and Merril Woolf. Elektra was sparingly run in '84 and has won 7 ARM points and 1/2 an ORC point. Elektra tried out on the Open Field this winter and so far has shown much promise, winning against greyhounds and salukis.

WHIPPOORWILL BOHEM ARIA Due to other commitments, we have not been able to show as much as we would like during 1984, but before 18 months of age, 'Beebe' had already gone BOS to the great 'Continental' three times, defeating some of California's top specials in the process. She will be shown sparingly by her owner (or whoever happens to be available at ringside) until finished. We are proud to have had a hand in the success of winning stock owned by other exhibitors, primarily of the young get sired by the English import Ch. Hardknott Maestro of Bohem (co-owned and standing at stud at Whippoorwill), who has at least ten pointed puppies from his first few litters. The 1983 AWC Santa Barbara Winnners Dog & BOS, Ch. Bohem American Way (owned by Tisma), has also sired some lovely young litters. No breeding has been done for the past year and none is anticipated during 1985. The 'old' Bohem lines continue to dominate the awards in Scandinavia in spite of the death during 1984 of two of the all-time Top Sires over there, Int.Ch. Bohem Lekain and Int.Ch. Bohem Filipin, between them sires of over 30 champions. Both have pointed get in the U.S. We are presently attempting to store frozen semen from Int.Ch. Bohem Mome Rath for possible future use. BO N.
