(photo at 14 months) SIRE: Ch. Swiftsure Happy Daze, ARM, Am.Can.F.Ch. DAM: Am.Can.Ch. Marial's Swiftsure Phantasy, F.Ch.X., Am.F.Ch. We proudly presents our yearling, FLASH. Going from the ring to the track with ease, FLASH is an outstanding example of the versatility we wish to maintain in our whippets. Three days after winning A.R.M. points in Portland , FLASH walked into the show ring and captured back-to-back Hound Group Firsts. With limited showing, he has multiple group placements and is in the Top Ten in Canada. Just start ing out in the U.S. ring, FLASH was awarded a 3 point major in November. FLASH'S Oval Track debut resulted in a second place (40 starters) and 3 O.R.C. points. His f ield championship was completed in only 4 trials with a Best of Breed over 26. FLASH is always breeder-owner-handled. WATCH FOR HIM IN '85!

Lana Morrison THE BRITISH COLUMBIA WHIPPET RACING CLUB 1984 marked the 15th anniversary of the British Columbia Whippet Racing Club. In these past years we have seen many top racers and the Whippets racing in British Columbia this past season proved to be among the finest in North America. The BCWRC hosted three N.P.R. meets and one NOTRA meet. The winner of our first NPR, June 9, 1984, was the James' Besaps Cockeymoor Queeny, ARM, followed closely by kennel mate Cockeyoor Geenee, ARM. The following day we held a 350 meter oval race with top honours going to Dave Pratt's Trylson of Wyndsor, ARM,ORC. Our main attraction every year is our Double Header NPR weekend co-sponsored with the Vancouver Island Whippet Association. Our half of the weekend, August 4, was won by superdog Lyth Satus, ARM, ORC (Lewis). In second place was Besaps Cockeymoor Queeny, ARM (James). In a field of eight promising puppies, the Harrison/Balint entry of Yentl of Wyndsor took first place. Our final NPR was held September 8, 1984 with the James' black speedster Besaps Cockeymoor Queenie, ARM again taking tip honours. Best Opposite and second place was awarded to Penny Wilmot's Wilpen Sherman of Wyndsor, ARM, ORC. Our annual fun match and BBQ was held at the home of Fred and Jean Linz with our judge this year being the world traveled All-Breed judge John Loftus. Mr. Loftus chose Yentl of Wyndsor (Harrison/Balint) as his Best Puppy, Best Adult was Sparkle Plenty of Course (Turpin); Best Champion was awarded to the Leinbach's Ch. Alcyon Eleventh Hour. In closing I wish to thank all the hard working members of the BCWRC for making 1984 so successful. I also extend my appreciation to all our friends throughout B.C., Washington, Oregon, and California for joining us in British Columbia . Barry Leinbach President, BCWRC Of Course PRESENTS -

1984 RACE PERFORMANCE SUMMARY By Doug Arthur A record of 50 National Point Race (NPR) meets were conducted in the United States and Canada in 1984. The total number of meets increased from 47 to 50 while the average entry fell from 39 to 37 adults compared to the previous year. The "super pup" of 1983, Lyth Satus, ARM, ORC, became the "super aduIt" of 1984. Satus shattered al I records, winning 20 consecutive NPRs and earn ing 91 national points during the year. His only setback came at the Orange, Cal ifornia NPR in May where he tied for high point adult with his speedy lit termate, Regal stock Lyth Router, ARM, ORC. Only three Whippets were able to cross the finish I ine ahead of Satus in 1984--Router, Besap ' s Cockeymoor Queeny, ARM and last year's National Champion, Try I son of Wyndsor, ARM, ORC. Consistently timed in the 11.2-11.4 second range for the 200 yard distance, Satus was unofficially clocked at 11.06 at the Lompoc NPR and 11.00 at the Burlington NPR in 1984. His wide victory margins leave little doubt as to the believability of these times. Having seen each of the top 20 race Whippets, as well as other past racing greats, it is this author's opinion that Satus is the fastest Whippet to compete in NPR racing in the past four decades! The top-ranked multi-purpose Whippets for 1984 were Can .Ch . Swiftsure Wishful Thinking, ARM, F .Ch . , owned by Steve and Linda Buchholz of British Columbia and Can .Ch . WR's Morrighan of Course, CDX, F.Ch.X, ARM owned by Leigh Smith of British Columbia. Two other top race Whippets that have scored major wins in the show ring and are nearing their AKC bench championships are Texas Contender of Wyndsor, ARM owned by Barbara Koch of Texas and Sun -dance At Best Run 'N Free, ARM owned by Rich Briscoe of New Jersey. A total of 16 Whippets won NPRs during 1984, with Satus heading the list with 20 victories, followed by Janie's John-Boy da Toro, ARM with 12. Both Satus and John-Boy surpassed the previous record of 10 NPR wins in a year shared by Regalstock Cimmaron del Toro, ARM, ORC, Jandall's Formula One, ARM, ORC and Van Oorschot 's Toro, ARM. As stated in previous race summaries, "national" points are simply the standard ARM point scale applied only to the top two or three finishers at official NPRs:
Of the 400+ Whippets competing in NPRs during 1984, only 29 earned national points. The top ten include four west coast, four midwest and two Texas Whippets. TOP TEN RACE WHIPPETS - 1984

There were many outstanding and exciting NOTRA oval racing meets this year as twelve regional clubs hosted 23 meets in 5 states and 2 provinces of Canada. Racing expanded to the mid-west with the first meets in Ohio and Texas. NOTRA oval racing continues to demonstrate why it is often called one of the most thrilling of the Whippet sports and is attracting many new participants and fans. This years National Oval Racing Champion is Tony and Karen Lewis' LYTH SATUS, ARM ORC with a record of 7 wins, 3 seconds, and 2 thirds. He beat out Ken Lee and Jean Balint's veteran speedster QUANTAS OF WYNDSOR, ARM ORC, last years Oval National Champion, who had a 4-1-2 record. QUANTAS started the year with 3 straight wins and was thought likely to repeat. However, in a tremendous demonstration of ability, SATUS won the last five meets of the year to capture the National title. Sue and James Bovee's fine racer JANDALL'S TOBY TYLER OF KENT, ARM ORC (2-6-1) finished 3rd in the Top Ten. In 4th place is David Pratt's TRYLSON OF WYNDSOR, ARM ORC (3-4-0). The 1983 NPR National Champion ran some remarkable races on the oval courses this year. The NOTRA "Triple Crown" perpetual trophy recognizes a Whippet which is outstanding under all conditions of distance and track type. This year both SATUS and TRYLSON won qualifying meets, but SATUS wins the trophy on points. Ten different Whippets won meets this year. Those who won more than one meet were LYTH SATUS, ARM ORC (7), QUANTAS OF WYNDSOR, ARM ORC (4), TRYLSON OF WYNDSOR, ARM ORC (3), JANDALL'S TOBY TYLER OF KENT, ARM ORC (2), and FLYER OF THE CRACKERJACKS (2). NORTH TEXAS WHIPPET CLUB THE YEAR IN REVIEW---1984 As Willie Nelson sings, "ain't it funny how the time slips away," and here we are on the threshold of another New Year! '84 was certainly an exciting year in Texas and many members' Whippets accomplished many awards! We had two Whippets complete ARM Championships: Cha parral's Barje Jigolo, owned by the Eakers, and early in the year, Warlock's Wizard of Rockhill, owned by Del Yorton. We had a good number of our Whippets earn Field Championships in '84: Regalstock's Urban Cowboy, owned by Richard Koch; Sundance Gallant Ghost, Sundance Galaxy Girl Pendel and Rockhill's Cinnamon Promise, all owned by Penny Woodruff and Del Yorton and Warlock's Wizard of Rockhill, ARM, owned by Del Yorton; Ch. Marial's Natchez, owned by Barbara Koch; Bob'n Tumbleweed Code 3, owned by Sue & Mike Cowie; Flyaway Lark of Jandall, Rockhill's Absolute Risk, and Rockhill's Texas Ranger of CCM, all owned by Charlie Maxwell. In the Obedience Ring we had two Whippets earn CD's: Warlock's Wizard of Rockhill, ARM/F Ch, owned by Del Yorton and Bob'n Black Jack & Ginger, owned by Mike & Sue Cowie. The new AKC Champion for '84 is Ch. Rensoc's Rendition, also owned by Mike & Sue Cowie. We had our first Texas Whippet receive ORC points and he is Chaparral's Barje Jigolo, ARM; another Texas ARM champion Whippet, Texas Contender of Wyndsor, ARM, earned 14 points towards his AKC Championship in '84. Hopefully, these two championships will be completed in '85! In the meantime, several Whippet litters were born in the Lone Star State this year, and it will be interesting to watch the progress of these pups this New Year! The big first in '84 for us Texans was the Thanksgiving race week-end which saw an NPR race meet back-to-back with our first NOTRA meet! It was thrilling and sensational, and we say thanks to our California friends and others for their attendance and help. In '85 we look forward to our Supported Whippet Entry at the Ft. Worth Kennel Club Show, March 23rd. In April, on the 26th, the AWC's Annual Meeting will be held in Dallas---another first! We'll have a full racing program in addition to the Annual Meeting and dinner on the 26th. Saturday, the 27th, will be the NPR meet, and Sunday, the 28th, a Whippets Only Lure Course will be held in the morning, followed by our 2nd NOTRA meet that afternoon. All of the racing will be on the Celina property. That was the year that was, a quick commercial for '85, and here's to all good things in the year that is! Barbara Koch
The name of the game is still racing . . . and "Cowboy" is still telling "The Boys" how to do it! "Texas Contender" had a great '84, winning 3 race meets and being 3rd and 4th in the national standings! He also did well in the show ring . . . winning 2 majors, and accumulating 14 AKC points! The newest whippet at our house to make his racing debut is "Captain Brewster of Wyndsor" . . . in his first NPR meet November 24th, he won 4 ARM points! And for '85, we have two "Cowboy" pups to watch . . . "Cowboy's Turbo Tech" and "Cowboy's Tidechaser". So, here's to all those whippets we've loved before, now, and in the future!
