American Canadian Champion

Brushwood Moxi of Endeavor

(Ch. Rhode Paved With Gold, ROM x Riverchase a Tempo)

Before she was a year of age, Moxi had established herself as a superstar in Canada, first by winning the Whippet Club of Canada’s National Specialty at 10 months of age under Judge Joan Goldstein and then several weeks later her first all breed Best In Show. Within several months, Moxi had won another Best In Show, becoming Canada’s #1 whippet and #7 hound for 2003. In addition to winning 3 more Best In Shows in early 2004, she managed to pick up several majors in the United States, one just before the 2004 National Specialty. We joked about finishing her championship by going winner’s bitch at the AWC National Specialty (Who hasn’t wished for that?). Well, the rest is history. Moxi not only won the coveted Winner’s Bitch award, but she went on to win Best of Breed in an entry of over 800. The moment that Judge Espen Engh moved her to the front of the line is one we will remember and treasure all our lives.

Since that incredible experience, Moxi has won another 22 Canadian Best In Shows and one American Best In Show, for a career total of 28 (as of December 2004). She is currently the top winning Best In Show whippet of all time in Canada. In 2004 she finished as Canada’s #1 whippet, #1 hound, and is ranked quite highly among the top 10 of all breeds. All this was accomplished with limited showing (she had lots of weekends off to hang out on the couch) and with very little print promotion. It seemed that no matter where Moxi and Raymond went, judges recognized her excellence.

So, what’s next for Moxi? In 2005, she will be shown at specialty and selected all breed shows. We also expect that she will have her first litter, hopefully in the first half of the year. Right now we’re having fun (and some anxiety) deciding which dog to use!

We would like to offer our gratitude to the judges (particularly breeder judges) who recognized Moxi this past year and, as well, to Moxi’s many friends and admirers who offered support at ringside and who sent notes of congratulations to us throughout the year.

Two of our most cherished blessings from Above

Petie and Ollie Junior
by Petography, Inc., NYC

We are thankful that we were allowed to share out lives yet another year with our very first two whippets, Petie (Ch. Bar-Vic’s a Time for Change) and Ollie Junior (Ch. Bar-Vic’s Ollie Take Two). The two brothers turned 14 in September 2004, as did their other littermate, Coco (Am.Can.Int’l.Ch. Topnotch Show Stopper), owned by Ellen Frenkel and Pam Miller. And my brother Scott’s first whippet, Harry (Sharwyck’s High Roller, a cousin of Petie and Ollie Junior), turned 14 in 2004 also. Good family genes.

Since becoming part of our family as puppies in 1990, our two boys have taught us unconditional love, compassion, trust and patience - and we are forever indebted that they also helped introduce us to the wonderful world of whippets. Ollie Junior’s Morshor line-bred grandchildren (Laurel Chase Mysterious Winds, SC x Ch. Upper Mountain Mayflower Madam) were born right before Christmas 2004. This litter of two girls and two boys is our first litter in five years, so, naturally, we are excited to see how they mature.

NATE DOES IT !!!!!!

BIF DCh. Karasars Barnwood Spicehunter, SC

(Am.Can.Ch. Robway Valley Of Kings, JC x Karasar’s Design, JC *ROM Qualified)

In finishing his Dual Championship before age 2, including a Best In Field, Nate gave his mom #6 and #7 toward her ROM. Katie is the 2nd ROM daughter of an ROMX mother. We are very proud to have helped achieve this distinction, owner-handled.

Nate is also pointed toward his OTR and ASFA FCh title. Look for him on the field in 2005 and perhaps in the breed ring as he matures. He is the noisy one!!!

Nate is CERF and BAER normal.

Chelsea . . . 2004

Chelsea Hot Smoke and Sassafras
(Ch. Chelsea Where There’s Smoke x Ch. Keynote Chelsea Windsong)

Our incandescent Ember lives up to her name. This exotic princess is our treasure. Although young, her specialty performances have been exciting. Her specialty debut yielded a BISweeps under breeder Chris Downing (Whimsy) at the AWC Western Regional Specialty (pictured). Not quite finished for the year, she captured a thrilling 5-point major at the Northern California Whippet Fanciers Specialty under breeder-judge Ms. Cindy Scott (Brookwood).

Needless to say, we are looking forward to 2005.
