I’ve never done this before. Oh, I’ve lost dogs before, all of whom I loved, some broke my heart, but I’ve never believed in parading my grief in public. Skimmer was special to me in many ways. She never finished, not because she lacked quality, but because she loved life too much (and dog shows waaaay too much). Her enthusiasm could not be curbed, no matter how the judges pleaded with me to try. They loved her, especially the breeder-judges, but she was her own worst enemy in the ring. She did have a 5-point major from the Southern Specialty’s Supported Entry under Betsy Prior (who appreciated her, including her antics). I loved her too much the way she was to try and change her. So, partly because she was my most famous dog (“What ever became of that beautiful/crazy fawn bitch?”), I present here the answer to the question. She was my constant fawn companion for over 16 years and never willingly left my side in the last few. And she was always beautiful. I miss her so much. |

“Julie” - the fun, friendly one - was having a hard time keeping her feet on the ground for the photo this day. She wanted “that toy”! The same weekend she completed her JC with great enthusiasm. It was wonderful to watch her as she learned what lure coursing was all about.
Thanks to the judges who appreciated her this year in the breed ring: David R. Miller, Patricia A. Murphy, Charles L. Colvis, and Lynn S. Schanzle (pictured). Julie was also BOS over a special twice.

Cruise’s first litter by the lovely Select Ch. Summit Enchanted Evening produced Summit Beautiful Stranger, winner of a huge 6-9 month bitch class at the 2002 National. Another puppy from that litter, Summit In The Spotlight, needs only five singles to finish at the time of this writing.
Cruise’s second litter born 10-24-02, by Am.Can.Ch. Riverchase Andante, will hit the ring this summer.
He’s only just begun his career as a sire, but what a nice start it is!

The objectives for the Greater Twin Cities Whippet Club are:
1. to unite people interested in breeding, showing, racing, coursing, and generally improving the breed of whippet for the purpose of effectually exerting a combined influence upon all matters affecting
the breed;
2. to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Whippet Club as the only standard of excellence by which whippets shall be judged;
3. to promote and maintain a high standard of conduct in the transaction of all business connected with the breeding of the whippet;
4. to conduct sanctioned matches, obedience trials, and specialty shows under the rules of the American Kennel Club.
The Greater Twin Cities Whippet Club is thrilled to announce our membership
has grown to over 60 members. We are especially pleased because many of our members are new whippet owners. Our club and members participate in a wide variety of fun whippet activities, proving the whippet is indeed a versatile and wonderful animal.
In 2002 the Greater Twin Cities Whippet Club proudly sponsored:
three weekends of ASFA lure coursing trials;
two weekends of CWA straight racing meets;
an AWC supported entry in Dulluth, Minnesota and an AKC sanctioned B-Match
In addition to coursing, racing, and conformation, Greater Twin Cities Whippet Club members successfully competed in agility, flyball, oval racing, C.G.C. testing, and obedience.
