- A life well lived -
“The Babe”
June 13, 1990 - August 20, 2001

U-CDX Ch. Windrose Pinafore Classified, LCMII, SC, CanFCh, CDX, CanCD, NA, NJC, CGC

Babe was running and showing off her heeling until two days before her great
heart suddenly failed. I was delighted to see her one more time that last week.

Sire: Ch. Rapahana’s Sharp Dressed Man, FCh, CGC (Stevie) Dam: Ch. Windrose Affinity Many Moons, FCh (Socks)

Babe earned her first major and Best of Breed as a wiggly 10 month old pup, shown by her new owner, Fay, who acquired Babe as her first dog. Babe and Fay went on learning together and amassed 15 titles over the next several years. Babe was in the ASFA Top Twenty twice and twice ranked in the Top Ten Delaney Obedience rankings.

Fay has continued a career in dogs, training and showing in obedience, agility, and retreiver trials. She also handles professionally for others and enjoys hosting lure coursing events on her farm, where she lives with her husband, trainer Abe McCaleb.

- Carrying on the tradition -
“Spats”

U-CDX Windrose War Pony, Am/CanCDX, TD, AX, MXJ, OAC, OJC, NGC, TRP, CGC

Sire: Ch. Rapahana’s Sharp Dressed Man, FCh, CGC (Stevie) Dam: Ch. Hound Hill Footlights (Socks)

Spats has earned an amazing 21 titles, as of December, 2001, and Laurie hopes there are a few more to come. Spats also has 5 breed-ring points, and has often ranked in the Top Ten Obedience and Agility rating systems.

On Babe’s death, Laurie wrote to Fay: “Fay, in case you don’t recall...when I saw you and Babe heeling seven years ago...that was the first...time I considered a whippet might be for me! You and Babe were my inspiration (and mentors) to go as far as I could with Spats, and that first impression...is one I’ll always cherish and remember. As you said for Babe: ‘Tally-Ho!’ “ - Laurie, Spats & Copy

The next generation for Windrose contains the amazing CHULA, Windrose Soiled Dove. She is co-owned by Susan Kirkham and Pam and Tom Haig of Nevada. Known to the Haigs as “The Chula Monster”, this solid black rocket has brought home 8 BOBs and 6 BIFs in 9 courses!! She’s fast, bratty, exciting, and keeps her great, great grandsire, Stevie, alive for me.

Can you find the race dog hidden in this picture?

If you can, it will make us very sad.
Because we're proud of the fact that our speedster is as handsome as he is functional. Our preference has always been a dog
which is conformationally correct.
He is.

With WRCH and SORC titles clutched tightly
in hand, we bred him to lovely, conformationally correct bitches with the injunction:
"Make beautiful babies." (Or else.)
They did.

Then, we waited. And observed. And trained. And hoped that they would also be fast.
They are.

And meanwhile, this dog went on to claim a WRCHX and three SORC titles. to eventually tie the record for #1 NOTRA dog of all time.

So... were not surprised you couldn't spot the race dog hidden in this picture.
Speed cloaked in beauty.
It's the ultimate disguise.

Lynne & Robert McGowan — 461 Thornetown Rd. Middletown, DE 19709 — 302-834-7866 — pwmako@mindspring.com

We began with a beautiful LCM bitch of impeccable temperament. We wanted to improve speed
and durability without conceding beauty or biddability. We listened to our teachers, and learned
from our peers and studied hard. Then we found the ideal mate in a beautiful race champion dog.
Our goal? A nod in the ring and a race champion point on the track.
We sharpened our #2 pencils. We got ready for the test.

We've had lessons in conformation, beauty, and speed this year at Domino Whippets. Our Bengal x Libby litter has shown that form and function can co-exist in one beautiful package. All five yearling pups attained their WRA Companion Racer titles in one or two race meets. Two of the five are WRCH-pointed, two are ORC-pointed, one earned an ASFA BOB on the very first try... and, in limited exhibition, two have conformation Reserves under their belts.
We've passed with flying colors.

Whippet Health Foundation, Inc.
REPORT
By Mary Beth Arthur

One of the top five health concerns tallied from the Whippet Health Survey was the problem of retained testicles. The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation has been contacted to see if they are interested in research looking into the mode of inheritance. They have put Whippet cryptorchidism on the next Request for Pre proposals, and will contact researchers in the field to encourage submission of proposals.

In 2001 a grant application was approved for researchers, individuals and universities to request funding from the Whippet Health Foundation, Inc. for projects that may fall under our mission. The Whippet Health Foundation, Inc. Mission Statement is below.

2001 was the first year the Whippet Health Foundation, Inc. funded a Whippet health screening clinic. The eye clinic conducted at the 2001 National in Dallas, Texas had 84 dogs. We encourage owners to take advantage of the health screening clinics offered in conjunction with the National Specialty. Health screening of all individuals will provide more information on the status of Whippet health. In addition, breeders can have the comfort of knowing their breeding stock is unaffected by disorders.

The Whippet Health Foundation “Helping Hand” logo has received many compliments. The beautiful Helping Hand pin is available to donors. Donors of $100 - $1000 will receive a sterling silver pin, donors of $1001 - $3000 will receive a gold pin, and donors of $3001 or more will receive a gold pin with a diamond. Donation amounts are cumulative and when a donor reaches the premium amount, they will receive a pin.

Thank you to all those that have made a donation to the Whippet Health Foundation, Inc. As of 2002 the checking and savings account balance is over $60,000. In 2002 the Board of Directors will decide how much of that money will be put into a CD or some other safe interest bearing account.
We are grateful to the following groups for their donations and support and encourage their continued support.

The Whippet Health Foundation was established in 1998 with specific goals to further the understanding of Whippet health, support research, establish a data base of health and scientific educational and resource materials, and develop and make available information about the care, breeding, health and development of Whippets. We want this mission to be international in scope. It is not about people, it is not about egos. It is about the Whippet and what is best for the breed’s longevity, health and well being. Your participation will help achieve those goals. We want to know what you feel is important. Please feel free to contact us about concerns or questions you may have. We value your input.

The Foundation can serve as a catalyst to leverage support from other donors. The Foundation will not provide funds for administration or overhead of a project.

The Whippet Health Foundation, Inc. will accept grant and project proposals at any time. Those determined worthy by the Board of Directors will be funded based on the availability of funds.
