2000 American Whippet Club Whippet Annual

Pages 151 through 175

TnT’s Wide Open Dreams, LCM5, CR
DOB May 1, 1998
Rumor had an exciting 2000, but with it came some ups and downs. She was BOB at the Region 7 invitational, earned 4 LCMs, and suffered a near career-ending injury in September. We are happy to say that she finished 2000 running strong and ended up the #1 ASFA whippet. A special
thanks to Scott and Robin Horner for taking such good care of Rumor while she visited the midwest. We are looking forward to more fun next year.

This year Jersey Rag Racers Whippet Association held out 15th annual Versatility weekend. This multi-day event features the Whippet as Race dog, Companion, Show dog, Coursing dog and Beloved pet.
It gives the owners a chance to show off their fine animals, and spend some time in the company of other people for whom a whippet is more than just another breed of dog.
Below are the Versatility winners for 2000.

At the one end of the spectrum is Delta (Mystic Delta Charm CRX II, ORC), over all Versatility Winner. Delta finished her ORC on the weekend and won her first ASFA placement points.

On the other end are Hawk (Indigo Sky Hawk CRX) and Widget (U-CDX Renegades Perpetual Motion MC, CGC, TT, FCh, FDCh, CanCD), who battled valiantly for the “turtle” position.

In between were some of the finest Whippets in the country. With an event like this, the only losers are the ones that
don’t try…
JRRWA would like to thank the following people for their
part in making it one of the best Versatility weekend ever:
• Chris Hatcher, for judging the Conformation match.
• Renée Napier, for judging the Obedience match.
• Pete Mendicino, for operating the lure for the ASFA trial.
• Camille Mendicino & Cindy Van Vliet, for judging the ASFA trial.
• Alice Mark, for providing the Agility Equipment, as well as her knowledge for the demonstration.
• George Allen, for helping out all over the place.
• The members of JRRWA, without whom this event could not be pulled off. Particularly the members who acted as various trial and meet secretaries and withstood the assorted headaches.
• The exhibitors who pulled together to keep the spirit of competition and good sportsmanship alive.
• Anybody else we’ve forgotten, who gave some of their time and energy to making the event run smoothly.
• And finally, special thanks to Lynn McGowan (the event chairman) and Carol Huff (catelog serf).
Hope to see you all at the 2001 Versatility Weekend June 30, July 1 & 4, 2001
Don’t forget your sunscreen, insect repellent and appetite for the best seafood to be found anywhere!
(Bringing your dogs would be nice too…)
