Summit Some Days Are Diamonds

“Annie” is a chiseled beauty with an unbridled enthusiasm for life. Her sire is the big moving and handsome Ch. Summit Sir Yvain. Her dam is the exotic and typey Ch. Keynote Chelsea Windsong. Reminiscent of her paternal grandmother, Ch. Autumn’s Terry Cloth, ROM, Annie is everything we dreamed of when we did this breeding.

Thank you Deann Christianson and Sharon Hoagland for leasing us the lovely Ballad. Watch for Annie as she makes her debut in 2001.

Ch. Summit Sir Yvain, JC`

We are very proud of Yvain’s accomplishments in 2000. In a highly competitive year in the breed, he was in the Top 10. Most rewarding, however, have been the compliments, interest and support this dog has received from fellow breeders and exhibitors.
A special congratulations to breeders Lee and Deann Christianson and Jackie Hubble, owners Joan Damon and Lee and Deann Christianson and Deborah Bahm and handlers Mary Dukes and Lori Wilson for making history with the sister/brother #1 and #2 whippets for 2000 – Ch. Chelsea Dangerous Beauty and Ch. Chelsea Made You Look of Sage.

“Sara”

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath
of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself
in the sunset.”

– Crowfoot
Blackfoot warrior and orator, 1890

The beautiful “Sara” will ever be remembered
as the devoted companion of Lee and Deann
Christianson and as the dam of:

by SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh., ROMX
• Ch. Chelsea Antipodes, LCM
(National Specialty AOM, Specialty BOS and multi-Ch. producer)
• Ch. Chelsea Catalina (National Specialty WB)
• Ch. Chelsea Jamaica In Autumn, FCh. (multi-Ch. producer)

by Am.Can.Ch. Surrey Hill My Man Godfrey
• Dual Ch. Chelsea Selena, CD, ARX, CRX, DPC, FCh, CAV
(Champion/FC/FCh/multi-ARX producer)
• Ch. Chelsea Poseidon (Ch. producer)
• Ch. Chelsea Helious, SC (DCh. producer)
• Chelsea Persephone
(Dam of Top 10/Group-winning Ch. Chelsea Champagne)

by Ch. Rhode Paved With Gold
• Ch. Chelsea La Strada
(BOB, Group 3 from the classes, Ch. producer)

The owners and friends of her children and grandchildren share the loss of this wonderful
producer with the Christiansons. Sara has left a legacy of beauty, quality, and function
that is treasured by all of us.

 Summit 

In 2000, a “magic” litter was born at Summit. Four girls and one boy, sired by the Rush son Ch. Bohem Circus Runaway, one of several champions from a handsome litter. The dam is our multi-specialty AOM Ch. Summit Enchanted Evening.

In limited showing, all are pointed from the puppy classes. Among them, they have six majors, five major Reserves and a BISweeps. The two pictured here, Merlin and Stella, reside at Summit. Continued success to the littermates as well: Summit Amulet, Summit Majic Wanda and Summit Voodoo Doll. These puppies keep alive the memory of their maternal great-great grandmother, Ch. Chelsea Take My Breath Away. We loved you Sara.

LONE STAR WHIPPET CLUB

OFFICERS FOR 2000-2001
President – Red Tatro Vice-President – Liz Arthur
Secretary – Karen Planchak Treasurer – Marilyn Pipes

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Denny Baker – Betty Stites – Denise Tatro

This past year has been a year of firsts for the Lone Star Whippet Club. We held our first AKC Lure Course trial/test. We were well supported with an overall two-day trial entry of 71, with 25 JC’s. In the spring, we held our first supported entry in conjunction with the Texas Kennel Club. Judge Al Miniero had a sweepstakes entry of 30 – one of the largest in the country. Judged by Shelley Hennessy, the regular classes were equally as impressive with 25 dogs, 38 bitches, 1 veteran dog and 9 specials. We also held our first ASFA “fun trial” in preparation to become an ASFA affiliated club. In addition, we completed our third B-match and are now hoping to obtain A status. In 2001, we look forward to completing our ASFA requirements and working toward the goal of becoming an AKC licensed club.

Katie’s Kids

Upper Mountain Spirit in the Sky - “Eli”
(Dual Ch. Sporting Field’s Jazz Fest, FCh. “Rory” x Ch. Upper Mountain JB’x Phantom, SC “Katie Anne”)

Born in the middle of an East Coast blizzard, we knew that Eli was something special from the very beginning. Eli made his ring debut at barely 7 months of age and went Best of Breed over Specials (including one of ours!) from the 6-9 puppy dog class, under judge Judy Harrington. Merely five days later, he was awarded Best in Sweepstakes at an American Whippet Club Supported Entry at the prestigious Somerset Hills Kennel Club. Thanks to judge Joe Franchi for finding Eli amongst the many gorgeous puppies entered that day. A couple of weeks later, Eli was awarded Winners Dog at another venerable show, the Devon Dog Show Association, under judge Jane Forsyth.
Eli is now enjoying being a puppy on the farm while he matures and is currently learning how to navigate in 2 feet of snow! He will be shown by our friend and fellow whippet breeder/handler extraordinaire, Kim Tudor, in 2001. Eli combines the best of Sporting Fields and Upper Mountain bloodlines and we are very excited about his future. Thanks to fellow breeders and exhibitors for the support and enthusiasm that you have shown for this special puppy.

Katie’s Kids

Upper Mountain Mayflower Madam - “DeeDee”
(Ch. Bar-Vic’s Ollie Take Two x Ch. Upper Mountain JB’x Phantom, SC “Katie Anne”)

Our pick puppy from Katie’s first litter, DeeDee also hit the show ring by storm, winning Best in Show Puppy at her first show at 6 months of age. This win was especially meaningful to us as many handlers and breeders from across the country used this show as a Westminster warm-up, because it was held the weekend prior. Thanks to judge Steven Gladstone for this exciting win and to whippet expert Dr. John Shelton for finding her in the Breed and Puppy Group rings.
Under the very capable guidance of Kim Tudor, DeeDee is now looking for her last major after taking the past year off to enjoy puppyhood and mature. Next, DeeDee will pursue her coursing career and will then be bred in 2002.
