1999 American Whippet Club Whippet Annual
Pages 150 through 175

The NCWFA’s 35th year was one of great fun and accomplishment for our members. Our 5th Annual Specialty was our biggest success yet, with over 175 total entries. On the running front, we hosted the first weekend of CWA Racing On the West Coast in March, coordinated two NAWRA races in the spring, and held a major-entry AKC Lure Trial in August. The Club put on two events just for kicks, a “Fun Day In The Sun” in May, and our “Whippet Pleasure Faire” in September. Where else but at these events could a whippet don Renaissance garb, try out agility obstacles, participate in a “round robin” match, and channel their inner snap dog at old fashioned Rag Racing (not all necessarily at the same time!) P All of these events were made possible through the hard work of our members, who can really pull together when needed, and most importantly, can put on a fabulous potluck on a moments notice! The club also placed six dogs through our Rescue Program, coordinated by Wendy Gay.
Three club whippets were Specialty Winners over the course of the year: Ch. Bohem Age Of Innocence (Singer) at the AWC Western in July, Ch. Starline’s Masterpiece (Odron) at our Specialty in the Fall, and Ch. Taliesin Angle Of Repose (deMille) , who finished in a most spectacular way, by taking BOB in San Diego in November. The NCWFA was also honored to have three Top Ten Conformation whippets among its ranks; the aformentioned Age of Innocence and Masterpiece, and the lovely Ch. Delacreme Redcloud Avalon (Damon). We had a High In Trial winner in Ch. Milescross Double Indemnity, SC, CD (Gay & Borstel), and congratulated not one, but TWO sets of multi-LCM littermates (Beetz Family). We are proud of our winners, and look forward to the new millennium! Come join us for any of our events in 2000, and be sure to mark your calendars for our 6th Annual Specialty Show to be judged by John Shelton, with Sweeps judge Dan Black (all pending AKC confirmation) on October 21st, 2000.

Dash has been bred on a limited basis, with only two to three litters per year, and yet his children continue to make their mark.
Dash’s outstanding son, Rush (SBIS Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush of Keynote JC, bred by Deann Christianson & Sharon Hoagland), paved the way early on by racking up one major specialty win after another. At the same time, other kids were also winning specialties!
In 1999, we were honored by more exciting moments for Dash’s children.
Here are just a few…
 |
BIS, SBIS Ch. Summit Moonlight Serenade JC
(owned by Joanne Bohl, bred & co-owned by Susan Harwell Harris)
“Abby” went SBIS at the Greater Chicago Whippet Association, then she wowed us by going on to an all-breed Best In Show!
Ch. Summit Cassanova JC
(owned by Dennis & Jane Seiler, bred and co-owned by Susan Harwell Harris)
“Nova” has been owner/handled all the way by Dennis and is ranked in the Top 10 (as of 11/30/99 Canine Chronicle)
Can. SBIS Ch. Onyxx Silence Is Golden
(owned by Donna O’Toole, bred and co-owned by Lynn & Bill Weller)
“Simon” went SBIS from the classes over a large entry at the Alberta Lure Coursing Association.
Congratulations to these and the many others who have made us so proud!

It’s all fun & games for the Wagner Whippets!
Billy tried his paw at racing this summer and Mouse will debut in Spring of 2000.
Mouse and I will do a little showing. And some day both will make their way into the obedience ring. Meanwhile, they’ll continue to snuggle, play, bestow hugs-n-kisses, go for rides, hike, visit friends and family and keep the backyard squirrels on their toes!

He had continued success in the show ring, picking up a major with handler Lori Wilson. The Jersey Rag Racers Whippet Association would like to invite you to a
celebration of the Whippet at our 15th annual Versatility event – July 1-4, 2000.
Started in 1986, this is our fifteenth continuous year. Each year brings more of the best whippets in the country to this event. The event features a straight race (WRA), a 300yd NOTRA U-val, conformation match, obedience match, ASFA field trial (whippet specialty) and, this year, an agility demo and match.
Competitors may enter any or all events, but those entering all of the running venues, as well as the fun match, become eligible for the Versatility trophy. Entrants in the obedience match may earn bonus points toward the trophy. While only one whippet can be the overall winner, with a competition like this there are no losers. Even our valiant effort trophies are highly prized and sought after.
Here are the top whippets for each of the past 15 years:
1986 -
Barje’s Grand Marnier Joha ARM
1987 -
