Broadstrider’s Consuelo

Connie is pictured winning her first points at eight months of age. She is sired by Ch. Sonseeahray’s In Hot Pursuit (Ch. Starline’s Reign On x Ch. Prophecy’s Promises Promises) out of our lovely Gina (Ch. Broadstrider’s Georgie Girl), a litter sister to Ch. Broadstrider’s By George.

Tattershall

Although we’ve been around in other breeds for over 30 years, with a Whippet now and then,
since we’re slowing down a little, we’ll probably breed a litter or two of Whippets.
We think we have some good ones to begin with:

“Cory”

Ch. Raybar’s Corrected Copy
(Ch. Broadstrider’s By George x Raybar’s Duplicate Copy)

Best of Breed / Group IV
from the classes at 10 months, Lima KC

Best of Breed
Chicago Whippet Specialty, plus a Group IV

Best of Breed / Group III
Sandusky KC, Entry 30+

Award of Merit
Atlanta Whippet Cluster

“Russel Turner”

Vic’s It’s My Turn*
(Ch. Morshor’s Majestic Prince x Ch. Vic’s Ciara Femme Fatale)

Winners Dog
at 81/2 months, Delaware KC

RWD - Columbus KC, Entry 61

BOS Sweeps - Atlanta Whippet Cluster

If things work out, “Cory” will be bred to that dashing white dog, Ch. Vic’s Moving Violation, in late ‘99.
Right now “Turner” is having fun in the puppy classes and growing up very nicely.

* “Russell Turner” is co-owned and was bred by Victoria Neff - Vic’s Whippets.

1998 — 99 Club Officers

President: J. Randall Tincher
Vice President: Maurice Woulfe
Treasurer: Lura Chacon
Corres. Secretary: Marge Ruppel

Recording Secretary: Katherine Shearer

Members of the Board: Karin Buck and Jim Gray, MD

MAWA members were well represented in the Whippet world in 1998 with some very prestigious placements in the conformation ring and performance venues. New members have added to the growth of the club with fifty-nine members and still growing. MAWA supported the back-to-back Classic City KC shows in May. The 5 th annual MAWA Specialty and Fall Supported Entry were moved to September to join forces with the AWC Southern Specialty and Supported Entry to make a memorable weekend.

MAWA members' hounds were stand-outs at the AWC National Specialty in San Diego with judge Bud Gutilla awarding Best of Breed (r d year in a row) to Ch. Whippletrees Icy Affire, owned by Chris Hatcher and Cora Miller. Best of Opposite Sex went to Ch. Cherche' Wizard of the Wind, owned by Glenda Durance and Dr. Jim Gray. Glenda and Jim are long time members of MAWA and Chris is Glenda's daughter, just to keep it all in the family. Not to be outdone, Ch. O'Run Gustav Nordic Wind, SC, FCh, owned by Karin Buck and Cindy Owens, won the Top Twenty event against outstanding competition. Goose has been beautifully presented by fellow MAWA member, Jan Swayze, in most of the wins that placed him in the '97 Top Twenty rankings.

The 5 th annual MAWA Specialty was held on September 17, 1998 followed on Friday with a Supported Entry at the Douglasville KC All-Breed show. The Specialty Sweeps judge Claire Newcombe awarded BISweeps to Appraxin Ragan Magnolia (9-12 bitch) owned by Dan Ragan, bred by Cal Perry. BOS to BISweeps went to Vic's It's My Turn (6-9 dog) owned by Patricia Richey and Victoria Neff, bred by Victoria Neff. Regular classes were judged by Mr. Madison Weeks who awarded BOB to Ch. Whippletrees Icy Affire (mentioned earlier) and BOS to Ch. Sporting Fields Jazz Fest, owned by Debbie Butts and Dr. John Burger, MD.

The following day, at the Douglasville KC supported entry, Sweeps judge Kim Gonzales awarded BISweeps to Morshor's Ferrari, (6-9 bitch) owned and bred by Dianne Bleecker and Davin McAteer. BOS to BISweeps was Surrey Hill's Raleigh Allerei (12-15 dog) owned by Carolyn Bowers and Karen Lee, bred by Karen Lee and Jeanne Simonsen. Regular classes were judged by William Cunningham who awarded Ch. Sporting Fields Jazz Fest with BOB and Ch. Sonseeahray's Diamond in Disguise as BOS to BOB, bred and owned by Marlene Slowinski.

MAWA hosted 2 AKC and 6 ASFA lure coursing field trials in 1998. The club members' hounds continued to be outstanding in the performance venues with Mike and Susan Hayden's bitch, JAMs Wandering My Way, LCM8, a.k.a. Frankie, finishing 1997 as the #1 ASFA lure coursing whippet. Her kennel mate, FC TNT's She's A Heartbreaker, LCM2, a.k.a. Blondie, finished #6 ASFA and was ranked in the AKC Top Ten. Both of these hounds continued their winning ways finishing 1998 in the ASFA Top Ten once again.

Ch. Geordon’s Dawns Early Light

(Ch. Sporting Field’s Kinsman x Geordon’s Black-Eyed Susan)

Dawn
I couldn’t be prouder than to have bred this beautiful bitch, who started her career winning huge puppy classes at the ‘96 Eastern Specialty/Supported Entry weekend. Shortly thereafter, Dawn suffered a serious injury threatening her motor ability. With hard work and grueling swimming in the Hudson River, which she hated, Dawn came back with flawless movement and finished with four majors (one 5, two 4’s and one 3) and a Best of Breed at the Eastern Dog Club Supported Entry over 66 whippets! A special thank you to Karen Roberson, her handler and greatest supporter, who saw her exceptional quality from day one.

President: Harold “Red” Tatro
Secretary: Karen Planchak
Vice-President: Peggy Bush
Treasurer: Marilyn Pipes

1998 has been an exciting first year for the Lone Star Whippet Club. In January, a group of 19 Whippet enthusiasts met and decided to form a new club. The Long Star Whippet Club has been formed to bring together the many Whippet fanciers of Texas and the surrounding areas. Our main objectives are to hold licensed specialty conformation shows and lure coursing events.

The first year has been very busy. The Officers and Board were elected, a Constitution was created and approved, we held two very successful all-breed fun matches, and had plans for a club fun-run that was side-lined by the fickle Texas weather.

1999 looks to be just as exciting, with more matches of both conformation and lure coursing types, as well as AKC recognition.

IntroducingWhippets

I am proud to introduce “ILUMINADA”
as my new kennel prefix.

I think it is fitting – Dash is a bright and shining light in my life, and he will be the cornerstone for my future breeding program. His pedigree is outstanding, and already the legacy continues in his children.

Dash delights me everyday. Not only with his beauty, but with his “Essence of Whippet”. Happy go lucky. At once wild and winsome. A bad little James Dean and then an under-cover snuggler.

I’ve been blessed, and I never want his light to leave my home.

i•lu•mi•na•da [Spanish]
adj.
1. Illuminated, surrounded by light

n.
1. those who are enlightened, upon whom light has ss shown
