1997 American Whippet Club Whippet Annual

Pages 225 through 250

Twyla has had an exciting debut year. She is major-pointed in the breed ring and has won several Brace Group Firsts and a Best Brace in Show with litter sister Sabrina. She has also proved to be a tough little cookie on the coursing field. She finished her AKC Field Championship the same day she achieved her Senior Courser title, with three 5-point majors in four trials. She lacks only one placement to attain her ASFA
Field Championship as well.

Bred by

The Justus Debutantes

(SBIS Ch. Merci Isle Meridian, JC x Dual Ch. Paris Seychelles Nutmeg, OA, F.Ch., CGC)

We are very pleased with our girls' inaugural season and look forward to their accomplishments in 1998.

Sabrina (foreground, shown with sister Twyla) has multiple Group Firsts in large matches and has competed in Brace Class with her sister, collecting several Brace Group Firsts and one exciting Best Brace in Show.
Evelyn lacks but one placement to complete her ASFA Field Championship, has her Senior Courser title plus AKC lure coursing points, and has points in the breed ring as well.

Amanda is conformation pointed and has points and a placement towards her ASFA Field Championship. She has also earned her Senior Courser title.

Ch. Autumn Terra Bella I'm Redee had a litter with Ch. Weway's Russet Rudolph (a son of Ch. Autumn Terra Bella Red Wine). Woodbrook's Marcy stayed at home and at her first show won BOB-puppy! Ch. Woodbrook's Soul Sister became CH (with BOB & 2BIG) and finished her year with BOB & 5BIG at the big Helsinki Christmas show! Ch. The new member in the family is Chelsea Pure Gold of Keynote. We would like to thank Deann Christianson and Sharon Hoagland for this lovely girl.

(Ch. Chelsea Antipodes LCM x Summit Spyder, FCh.)

We thought it only fitting to honor Jasmine in the 97 Annual, as she is the dam of three of the four Summit champions of 1997. The three new champions are from Jasmine s first litter sired by Ch. Chelsea Just One Look. They finished their championships with multiple breed wins and group placements. From Jasmine s second litter, which are still in the puppy classes, there are already 3 pointed offspring whose wins include multiple BOB s and a Group 2, with one puppy just needing a major to finish. Jasmine herself finished going WB at the SCWA specialty under breeder judge Doug Arthur. She has excelled in the show ring, in the field, and in the whelping box. She will be bred for her final litter in the spring of 98.

. . . Presenting 2 of the reasons we're very excited about 1998!

Milescross Elandan
Afterglow
(Ch. Locar's Bacarrat x
Milescross Lady Frm Shanghai)
12 .21.96

We are proud that our young girl with the old pedigree (it spans over twenty-five years in four generations) has been so favorably received by today's fanciers and judges. Vixen, pictured at left at ten months, shown almost exclusively at big California whippet weekends, capped a string of specialty and sweeps class wins by being awarded BOS in Sweeps by Chris Hatcher at the N.C.W.F.A. Specialty in October. Look for our houndy girl to make a splash in 1998 as a more mature adult.
She'll be the one with the big smile on her face!

Grand Prix's Lexington

(Ch. Grand Prix's Cisco Kid, JC x
Ch. Milescross Double Indemnity, SC)
5.30.97

Pictured to the right at five months, our young man Teddy more than makes up in style and soundness whatever he lacks in flashy body colour. Possessing both scopey sidegait and an undeniable charisma, we look forward to his show career. Ted's pedigree is tightly linebred on some of our favourites, and he is a lovely complement to both his Plumcreek and Locar heritage.

The curvaceous and dignified Heddi needs a major to finish.
We look forward to a great 1098!

( Fairfax Alcyon Cool Water x Ch. Aspen in Autumn)

The "Awesome Augie" finished her championship in style with back-to-back majors at Steel City Kennel Club and Lake
Shore Kennel Club shows and finished the next weekend under judge John Simm at Kankakee River Valley Kennel Club.

Many thanks to Debbie Davenport and Dana Cline for- their ass i stance in finishing the Awesome Augie and a
VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Sue Harwell Harris for sharing her girls with us.

Augie and Mom (Bobbie) are already enrolled in Obedience class and look forward to Agility and Lure Coursing as well ‑
must keep my little genius busy!!!

It has been a hectic year, with very little time for Whippet activities. However, last year's puppies out of Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing did extremely well; with a bit of luck, all eight could become champions.

So far, Ch. Bohem Age of Innocence, All About Eve, American Graffiti and Accidental Tourist are pointed in the U.S., and Adam's Rib has several CCs, BOB and a Group placement in Holland. The other three will be shown in 1998.

This is one of the most delightful litters we have ever bred, and we are very grateful to Ch. Starline's Reign On for his part in siring such a large, happy, healthy and handsome litter.

We would like to breed from "Betsy" again in 1998, but have not managed to decide on a sire. Meanwhile, she took time out for some field training with Kim Otero, had a lot of fun, and did very well for a middle-aged, soft-living show bitch. Thanks, Kim!

No puppies were born here in 1997, but a litter out of Ch. Bohem People's Choice came to stay for a while in July, co-bred with Jim and Cathy Gaidos (Konza), sired by Ch. Chelsea Bulgari, JC. Several of them will be shown in the New Year.

The exports have done well, in addition to Adam's Rib in Holland, Ch. Bohem Flight Time has been #1 Whippet male in Finland for three years, and this year his daughter, Ch. Woodbrooks Kohinoor took over as #1 Whippet. He is proving a very influential sire with winners in many countries, including the U.S., and we hope to breed to him in due course.

Also, congratulations to Ch. Bohem Critic's Choice, who became a multiple BIS and Specialty BIS winner in Australia. A son from her first litter (sired in the U.S. by Reign), Ch. Statuesque Extortion, is already a BIS winner at 14 months!

Thanks to the wonderful owners of these dogs! Without you, we would be pretty much invisible at dog shows these days. May 1998 bring you much success, and maybe we'll even be able to get away to a few shows just for fun .. .

(SBIS Ch. Starline's Reign On, ROMX x BIS Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing)

After smooth sailing through the classes, including major wins at the Hound Show and American Whippet Club weekends in California, Winona made her specials debut at 14 months of age. She is already a multi-Breed winner in top California competition, over multiple BIS winners, and has made the cut in the group each time.

Winona is the 77th champion from Bohem, including a long line of Best in Show winners at All- Breeds and American Whippet Club specialty shows. She is a true reflection of her heritage!

. . . And just wait till you see her move!
