Ch. Upper Mountain JB's Phantom, JC (Ch. Mimbres Gilded Grayling x Am.Can.Ch. Kirwin Undercover Syndicate - "Woodsmoke bitch") We knew Katie Anne was special from the beginning. At her first point show at 6 months and 3 days of age, she was RWB to a 4 point major. Four weeks later, she was Best of Winners for a 5 point major from the 6-9 class at the AWC Supported show on the Wine Country Circuit under Swedish breeder-judge Mrs. Agneta Kappers Karlsson. Katie Anne finished handily with three majors (5, 4 and 3 point majors), multiple breeds and a Group 4. Her biggest wins were under hound specialists - the ultimate honor. At Katie's first show as a special, she was awarded Group 2 over a very competitive Hound entry, including BIS winning hounds. Thank you breed judge Dr. Asa Mays and Group judge Mr. Council Parker for making this a day we won't easily forget. Katie Anne will be specialed selectively, but will spend most of her time doing what she enjoys most - lure coursing! A late 1996 breeding is being planned. Inquiries welcome.
(Ch. Mimbres Gilded Grayling x Am.Can.Ch. Kirwin Undercover Syndicate - "Woodsmoke bitch") Andrew, Katie Anne's litter brother, also had quite a year. Andrew is truly an all-around Whippet, excelling at everything he does. At home he is the most laid-back Whippet we own. Get him in the field, however, and watch out! It took only 3 field trials in late 1995 for Andrew to achieve his Junior Courser title and be ASFA pointed in a large East Coast entry. He will be working on both his AKC and ASFA field titles in 1996. Andrew also has an impressive show record in very limited showing. While barely 7 months old, he was Winner's Dog at an AWC Supported show for a 4 point major. Andrew ended 1995 with 11 points, both majors and breed wins. Now that his sister has finished her championship, Andrew will be looking for his last 4 singles. We appreciate the numerous inquiries we've received regarding Andrew's future at stud. But he's been told that he should finish his show championship before his first date! Katie Anne and Andrew are owner-handled and, along with all of our other Whippets, have their eves checked annually.

1995 was a very good year for Debmar. Our lovely homebred, Victoria, finished 1995 in grand style #2 Whippet We are very proud of our Lady in Lace.
Our lovely homebred, "Diva", held the banner of Debmar high in 1995. "Diva" made her premier performance during the 1995 AWC National Specialty Breeder's Futurity, placing second under Karen Bowers Lee in 6-8 month puppy. In great style, The "Diva" made her final performance for the 1995 AWC Midwest Specialty, Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Award of Merit
(Ch. Appraxin Majic Jethro x Ch. Alerek's Riva Ridge) "J.J." finished in short order with 4 majors under judges Janet Wilcox, Barbara Heller, Mrs. Clark (pictured) and Tom Kirstein, with 3 wins over specials, one a supported entry. J.J. is a sound and smooth mover, qualities he is passing on to his get. His first crop have been class winners at specialties and sweeps, with 4 pointed.
(Ch. Alerek's Rivalero x Alerek's Candle In The Wind) "Tears" is pictured winning a major from BBE under judge Mrs. Lee Canalizo. Exceptional movement and great beauty have made Tears a strong contender at specialty shows and sweeps. Watch for our brindle beauty in '96 with Al.
(Whippoorwill Moonstone, ROM x Ch. Chelsea Saffron, ROM) Drake is at it again! Within 8 days in August, he broke the all-time specialty winning record for whippets. #4 WWWA Entry: 120 Judge: Ms. Carol Willumsen (Wilcare) #5 AWC Midwestern Regional Entry: 270 Judge: Mr. Espen Engh (Jets) Our deepest gratitude to Ms. Willumsen and Mr. Engh for reconfirming their admiration of Drake in the most profound way. Yes, both have rewarded him in the past. We are proud of the fact that Drake has fulfilled the promise many had in him as a youngster. Drake has no idea how famous he is. He is happy to be our special buddy, to occasionally chase the bunny and to sneak into our bed. In the long run, his companionship is what we cherish in him the most.

(AmCanCh. Surrey Hill's My Man Godfrey JC x Ch. Chelsea Take My Breath Away) Selena is a gal who just loves to get in my van and go do stuff. Sometimes the stuff she likes to do is to show - so she finished her championship with a BOB over special and followed up with BOS at the very prestigious AWC Supported Entry the clay after the Eastern (pictured). Sometimes she likes to be crammed into a box with a muzzle on, so we went to a couple of race meets and three NOTRA's. This she like so much that she turned out to be a NOTRA Grade B racer with a Top 10 finish at the Iron Whippet Weekend (Conformation, Racing, Coursing and the Oval). Of course, she has always been High Score Show Champion and has exceptional speed for a show bred whippet of today. She also just loves it when the van pulls into a big open field and she hears her favorite two words - "Tally Ho". Her speed has made turning a bit of a challenge, but she seemed to be getting the hang of turning by Autumn and finished the 1995 ASFA coursing season with what must be the largest collection of 2nds and 3rds in Open on the east coast (Dang!)! She also continued to earn points toward her AKC F.Ch. title. Maybe next year, the van will go to obedience class or even agility school. After all, we can't disappoint Selena on the weekends. Bred by Lee and Deann Christianson, Chelsea Owned by Karen Bowers Lee and Deann Christianson
(Multi SBIS Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford FCh ROMX x Ch. Surrey Hill's Calamity Jane FCh SC ) Starting in March, Sanibel joined Selena in the van and quickly agreed with Selena that showing was a very fun thing to go and do. She won Best in Sweepstakes twice, topping large and high quality entries under Cindy Scott and Cora Miller. She won her first major owner-handled at 6 months old by going up over a BIS special, won her second major handled by our friend Cynthia Schmidt, when I was busy putting on a lure trial, and finished her championship with three wins in a row. As soon as she turned a year old, she tagged along to the lure trials, where she showed her respect for her elders by frequently winning 1st to Selena's 2nd. Her ASFA FCh title was wrapped up by 14 months, with three firsts and a BOB - an agile and tenacious little bitch! We have been having so much fun with Sanibel that we just had to share it with someone who can make her an international star, as we feel this smaller, perfectly sound and exceptionally curvy bitch could easily be. What a delight to have our new Brazilian friend Saulo Biscoto of Silkrock as her new co-owner! Saulo is full of exciting plans to exhibit and eventually breed our happiest girl, so that she may have every chance to reach her full potential as a show bitch and producer. Under Saulo's loving care, this little whippet diplomat will surely have more fun as she seeks fame in both North and South America. Bred by Karen L. Bowers (Lee) and Carolyn J. Bowers, SURREY HILL Owned by Breeders and Saulo Jr. R. Biscoto
(Ch. Briarwyke Keep the Change x Windspiel Lady in Red) (photo by Marilyn LaBrache Brown) A very special thank you to Sue Cassem
for letting this lovely bitch come to live with us.
In her first (and only to date) outing in the show ring here, Her first litter here, born in November 1995 and sired by AmCanCh. Allerei's Tax Refund, shows great promise. She is extraordinary and we are most fortunate to have her.
(Am.Can.Ch. Ole Soul De Sud x Am.Can.Ch. Alcyon Angelica) (unretouched Marilyn LaBrache Brown photo at a year of age) He's not tall – 20 1/2 inches. He's not long – but has lots of Whippety curves in all the right places. He's not heavily marked – white with red brindle head markings and a croup spot. He's not, and never will be, proven in the show ring – after a puppyhood injury and a series of miscalculations by veterinary specialists, he has a permanently disabled hind leg. BUT . . He's handsome; he's masculine; he's glamorous; he's outgoing and confiding at the same time. He possesses wonderful and not always easy to find extras – elegance and style; a beautiful head with big, expressive and heavily pigmented eyes; a filled-in front; and, even with a hitch in his gitalong, BIG sidegait. Three very nice bitches have come to him. The first two litters, out of Am.Can.Ch. Whimsy's Amazing Grace (Ch. Alcyon Whistle Stop x AmCanCh. Killea Day Bright) and Am.Can.Ch. Allerei's Bond of Elegance (Ch. Starline's Reign On ROMX x AmCanCh. Allerei's Santa Paula FCh). show great promise. A third litter out of Ch. Aspen in Autumn (Ch. Starline's Reign On ROMX x Ch. Chelsea Jamaica in Autumn FCh) is due in April.
(SBIS Ch. Broadstrider By George x Locar's Creme de Cocoa, JC) "DEMI" has moved right into top dog position around the farm. She protects us from all harm and no vermin have been seen on the property since she has taken up residence. Her favorite place (just like her mother's) is under the covers. She is my favorite, with her shapely curves, gorgeous markings and undying attitude. She is a lovely mover, beautifully balanced, with smooth, clean lines. "Demi's" first lure course was a whippet specialty where she took first place in the open division. We will be breeding "Demi" in 1996 to nothing less than spectacular. Inquiries invited. Breeder/Co-owner: Guin Borstel Wendy & Rodney Gay
(SBIS Ch. Martini On The Rocks x Locar Datani Partial Eclipse, CD) "BO" is our comic relief whippet. He is clearly a dog with a sense of humor and an endearing personality. He has a great attitude and always a smile on his face. Shown very sparingly, he finished very easily. Always a pleasure to show, because he enjoyed anything we asked of him. Since finishing his championship, he has participated in his first lure course. Showing great promise, he finished fourth in a good sized field of whippets. From a breeding standpoint, he is one of the soundest whippets we have ever seen. We are very proud of "Bo" and are confident that he will continue to make us proud as a sire. He has a great deal of offer the breed. VWD normal and CERF clear. If you need to improve soundness and movement, "Bo" is worth considering. Videotapes upon request. Wendy & Rodney Gay
