(Ch. Whippoorwill Tanager ex Ch. Chelsea Arpel Whippoorwill)
whelped 5/12/93

Typey and absolutely sound, DINAH finished quickly in only four months, owner-handled. She made her Specials debut in September and, in very limited showing, has won 4 B.O.B., a Group 3 and a Group 1 ! ! Thank you, Barbara, for entrusting us with this very "Specials" bitch !

We also wish to thank all our friends and fellow competitors for their graciousness, encouragement, and
wonderful comments about DINAH. We are looking forward to a very exciting 1995 in the show ring with her !

In 1994, the Northern California Whippet Fanciers celebrated it's thirtieth anniversary year with many commemorative events. Fun was the operative word, as we hosted the first annual "Irregular Dog Show", which turned the traditional show procedure upside down with great results; held a "Whippet Olympics", where our canine pals competed for the gold in events as diverse as "find the hidden liver" or "high jump"; and had our first lure coursing seminar, where club members got to try their hand at everything from field clerking to lure operation.

1994 was also the second year of our well-attended "Whippet Extravaganza Weekend", with our A Match judged by Calvin Perry, and two Supported Entries and a Sweepstakes, which had entries of over 60 each day! Lure Coursing was a constant feature, as coordinator Christie Beetz put on more trials in 1994 than we thought was humanly possible (and made them a success!!). Racing, headed by David Gill, was the focus of two well-attended NAWRA / NOTRA weekends. Carol Gregory, assisted by Carolyn Simpson and our other hard working volunteers, made sure that our Rescue Program maintained its high standards, placing eighteen dogs in new, loving homes.

We here at the NCWFA expect that the dawn of our fourth decade should prove as exciting as our first three. To that effect, we have planned more great Lure Coursing on fabulous fields, two racing weekends, our "fun" Olympics and Irregular Dog Show, and, pending AKC approval, our first Independent Specialty, tentatively scheduled for October 1995. We'll keep you posted!

The puppies from our April 6, 1993 litter of Ch. Broadstrider By George and Locar's Creme De Cocao, JC have had a very good year. "Bentley" (pictured above) is a multiple breed winner from the classes and needs just a major and a single to finish at twenty months. We really like his deep and curvy outline, powerful movement, and delightfully outgoing temperament. Bred and owned here, "Bentley" is co-owned and beautifully handled by Dan Silva. To see "B's" "other side", please take a look at the Pedigree Section.

"Demi" gave us an exciting moment at the SCWA specialty in January, where she was RWB and Best Puppy over an entry of 66. Thank you Russell McRadden! Infrequently shown thereafter, she has garnered five points. This year we know she will make a splash! Co-owned with Wendy Gay (Grand Prix), "Demi" is also an enthusiastic lure courser, awaiting her turn to shine in the field. Our girl's most important job, however, is showing us every day just how pretty a sound, correct whippet can be.

No points here! Our classic beauty "Lina" is always a favorite with longtime fanciers, who appreciate her flowing sidegait and typical curves. In 1994, she was BOB at the NCWFA specialty match under Cal Perry and had a class win under Iva Kimmelman at the AWC Western. We are looking forward to presenting her to the fancy at specialties in 1995. Lina is co-owned with Dan and Leslie Silva.

Dan and Leslie also have the pleasure of owning a second sister, "Spree", who, in addition to some great point show wins, was the victor of the 1218 months sweeps class of 20 at the AWC Western under Lesley Potts! These pups' dam, "Julia", will be bred again in 1995. Inquiries invited.

"Shemya"

Shemya is true to the Whippet Standard. She is also our SBIS winner ! Watch for her upcoming litter sired by Allerei's Taylor Made.

"Sami"

Sami is our Multi-BIS winner and our little go-getter ! Watch for her puppies sired by Select Ch. Starline's Reign On.
Shemy & Sami are both CGC & TDI registered.

We were a little 'fast" this year...

. and everyone knew it !

BIF One O'Clock Sunrise At Jilzan, JC, FCh

(Ch. Wildfire's Exclusive x One O'Clock April Romance)

MIULIE had a great year! Our "fawntastic" girl needs just three
singles to finish her breed championship, in limited outings. She
won a hard-run Best In Field with a Top 10 Greyhound, and
finished her Field Championship, too. We're hoping for a fast
finish to her breed title, and a spring litter with another classic
fawn, Ch. Surrey Hill's My Man Godfrey, JC

BIF Surrey Hill Glory-of-the-Seas, FCh

(Ch. Patric's Jammin' Drarig x Ch. Surrey Hill's Dawn Treader, SC, FCh)

GLORY didn't want to be outdone by her best buddy, so she won Best In Field in her very first trial! GUORY finished her FCh in only FOUR trials, then won the FCh stake and Best of Breed her first time out as a move-up. She's hot!! And all this was in addition to winning five points from the 9-12 and 1218 classes! Thanks Karen, Bob and Carolyn - we think she's stunning!

!

BIF Timbar's Starlet of Morshsor, FCh

(Timbar's Starless Night x Timbar's Tempest Storm)

STAR had a year of ups and downs - in February, she severed an
Achilles tendon, and we feared the running career of our fastest
hound was ended. However, with a lot of great care and better
luck, she resumed running in November, and finished her FCh in short order. STAR's toughest competition seems to be housemates MILUIE, GLORY, TIGRE and CHARMAINE, with FAUINE, BRANDY and SARYU right behind

Wildfire's Breathless

(Ch. Wildfire's Exclusive x Ch. Chelsea Take My Breath Away)

RITA (the redhead) joined half-sister MILUIE and the rest of the gang, and is looking forward to her first birthday, so she can chase "bunnies" too! Meanwhile, she's catching a lot of compliments in the puppy classes!

Jilzan Desert Dream, JC

(Jilzan Runnin' Down A Dream (by SBIS Ch. Wistwind's Eli LCM II x Jilzan Desert Vixen)

CHARMAINE has been running consistently all season, and
winning in the Bred-by-Exhibitor class, too. But what she's really
a champion at, is being a truly world-class companion and
babysitter! We hope to start her in obedience and agility in 1995.

Jilzan Runaround Sue, JC

(SBIS Ch. Wistwind's Eli LCM II x Jilzan Quicksilver Promises, FCh)

TIGRE stayed home a while to grow up, but came out in the fall to run. True to her pedigree, she's fast, consistent, and keen. We're looking forward to lots of fun! We think we might be a little "fast" for quite a while!

We've been doing a lot of running, and are looking forward to even more. BRANDY (One O'Clock Misty Rose) is recovered from her bout with Valley Fever and is back on the field, as is her Dad, CASEY (Ch. Jilzan Stormbird, SC, FCh), who shows some effects from his terrible injury, but has the heart and courage to overcome them. Casey's fall 1994 litter out of Charmaine's sister, BONNIE (Jilzan Bonnie Dream), will be waiting in the wings for their turn. Watch for Jilzan Peregrine Dream and Jilzan Stormy Dreams to make their debuts in 1995! Bonnie and Charmaine's other sister, the lovely SHADOW (Jilzan Shadow Dreams), has put her coursing career on hold - she's expecting a February litter by fast and handsome TIMMY (Select Ch. Chelsea Antipodes, FCh).

"Drake" continues to be our special companion. We are pleased that the qualities we value in him he is able to reproduce consistently. His Specialty rewarded get are proof. One only has to look to see.

This year found Drake exhibited only twice. He captured his third Specialty win (to the delight of his many admirers) at WWWA's Independent, under Mr. Thomas Partis. He won BOS at the AWC Eastern Regional under Ms. Carol Willumsen. As we reflect upon Drake's rich show career, it is the judgement of our peers that has meant the most to us. On the eve of Drake's Veteran year, we have warm memories of the honorable wins awarded by highly respected breeders.

Thank you . . .

"Tally" came to us from Dee Berger in 1985, at 6 years old. We were happy to give Tally a safe and secure home until her death in January 1994 at 15 1/2 years old. Exquisite to gaze upon, we owe this grand of gal a deep bow of appreciation. The breed type in our line can be directly traced to her. She had a pedigree rarely seen these days and we are proud to have kept these great dogs alive through many branches of our line.

Recognizing her quality, we did have the foresight to concentrate her gene pool. Our instincts were on target, as the result was Ch. Chelsea Take My Breath Away. She, in turn, has produced some of our best.

Enjoy her legacy on the next pages.

We are proud to announce that "Jacob" has come home. We are anxious to present him to the fancy as a mature dog. With limited opportunities, he has proven himself packed with potential, as he has sired multiple Group winners and several champions. He is from a beautiful linebred litter and excels in a gorgeous headpiece, wonderful full body, with equal moderate angles on both ends. We at Surrey Hill are anxious to get back to our "roots" by using him ourselves on some of our best homebred bitches.

Harrison won his finishing major his first time out after our move to PA. He is really a cool dog, being handsome, brave, loving, and playful - everything a whippet male should be. He possesses that elusive combination of long, ground-covering lines and strong curves which is so very pleasing.

"Carrie" and co-owner Andria Helm have been turning heads in Juniors and breed competition. Andria showed Carrie to a major win under Mrs J.E. Clark and BOB under Mrs. Foy this year, as well as many wins in Junior Showmanship. Way to go Andria! Carrie hopes to have linebred pups sometime in 1995.

"Keena", our lovely Futurity and Sweepstakes class-winning puppy matured into a gorgeous yearling. She has 14 pts. and both majors at 17 mos.; her smoothness of finish, easy-going disposition, and heavy angulation are Surrey Hill hallmarks. We are equally proud of her two sisters - both of whom have breed ring and coursing accomplishments. Dawn's small litter has given us big excitement.

Keena was bred by Karen L. Bowers, Bob Strom, and Carolyn J. Bowers and is owned by Carolyn and Karen: 959 Deerfoot Road, DeLand, Florida 904 / 738-7752

CHELSEA SELENA, SC

(AmCanCh Surrey Hill's My Man Godfrey JC x Ch Chelsea Take My Breath Away)

When I heard the beautiful Sara was booked to the delightfully droll and structurally outstanding Godfrey, well, I just couldn't resist. Temptation has its rewards, namely, my exquisitely lovely and feminine moon goddess, who also happens to be fairly hot stuff in the field and with a Frisbee. Selena also needs ony 1 point for her bench title, and has major and other points in AKC and ASFA coursing.

Selena was bred by the Christiansons (Chelsea) and is owned by Karen Bowers Lee and Deann Christianson

(Ch. Dadaelis Alcyon Flight Time, FCh. x Ch. Halmarque All Dressed Up)
This summer, "Merle" went back and forth from ring to field, completing her bench championship and nearly completing her LCM. In the ring, she won her 2 majors under Denis Grivas and Paula Hartinger (3 pts and 4 pts). She won 230 points and all 4 firsts towards her LCM.

Special thanks to Marilyn Rew of Halmarque for this enthusiastic and loving dog.

1994 was an action-packed year for the Western Washington Whippet Assoc. In addition to our 2nd independent specialty show, we found time to put on 4 weekends of ASFA lure trials, including a whippet only trial and the Regional Invitational, a NOTRA racing weekend and countless social events, practices and meetings. In addition, our energies were focused on helping to make the '94 AWC National a successful and memorable week, despite the constant deluge that had even us natives wondering if we needed to build an ark.

1995 promises to be another busy year for us. Our third independent specialty will be moving to an independent location and we will add a whippet-only AKC lure trial to the weekend's festivities. We will continue an ambitious schedule of running events as well, particularly if we can find that ever elusive field for running NAWRA/NPR meets during the summer. Through it all, one thing remains constant - our commitment to having a good time. It just wouldn't be WWWA without the potlucks, parties and picnics.
