At the American Whippet Club 1990 Western Specialty, Ch. Cygnet Watch Me Ms Whitney (left) was awarded Best Brood Bitch wIth 7 month old get by judge Mrs. Doris Wear. To date, four of Ms Whltnels offspring are pointed, one wIth 2 majors, and Watch Me Ms Blond Bombshell (above) has several major reserves from the puppy classes. Two edditlonal puppies are excelling in obedience and agility training and another two will be racing next spring! We are very proud of these youngsters and the wonderful families with whom they live.

“Anyway, we were sitting in the x-pen at this show, and I tell you I never heard such a fuss as when they came back from the ring with Presto.. . all this talk about WB, BOW and BOS and a 5-point major. At the next show they carried on the same way, jumping around and saying WB and BOW. . . adding 3 to 5 and coming up with 8. Wow, they can add!

“Now they're saying Presto has four majors, and two of them are ‘5-points'. I'm keeping track of their arithmetic, and she definitely has more than you need to get to 15. Whatever all this means, the best thing for me to do is smile a lot at Cynthia when she comes back from the ring because she'll give me the leftover liver from her pocket.

“The best part about living here is getting to run free up in the mountains, like ‘hooligans', Cynthia says. Too bad she always makes up excuses why we have to leave, like she has to go teach piano lessons.

“We have her thinking she has a problem with moles in our back yard, but you know that anyone who sits on the couch looking as perfectly sweet as I do could never dream of doing anything mischievous.

“Now I am turning six months, which means I can vote, or be voted on, I'm not sure which. Actually, I think I got voted on the other day when I won something called Reserve. Evidently it was a big deal, because there were 18 boy whippets and I'm still just a baby. I thought it was a lot of fun. I still carry my camera, and like to photograph myself with the timer, but I got someone else to take this Puppy Hound Group win of me at my first match on my 3 month birthday.

“I hear Presto is going to settle down and raise a family at Christmas, and we're all anxious to see her beautiful babies.”

AMERICAN WHIPPET CLUB
REGISTER OF MERIT

The American Whippet Club initiated the Register of Merit for influential sires and dams in 1988.

Upon application, AWC will grant the title “Register of Merit” (ROM, to be used after the dog's registered name) to any Whippet sire, living or deceased, whose offspring have earned a minimum of 15 AKC champion and/or ARM titles, and to any Whippet dam whose offspring have earned a minimum of 5 AKC champion and/or ARM titles.

Furthermore, the title “Register of Merit - Excellent” (ROMX) can be granted to any Whippet sire whose offspring have earned a minimum of 25 AKC champion and/or ARM titles, and to any Whippet dam whose offspring have earned a minimum of 10 AKC champion and/or ARM titles.

A certificate of merit will be awarded to the owners of sires and dams which qualify for the award and who have applied for it. The presentation will take place during the annual AWC National Specialty celebrations, with the certificate being mailed to those who cannot attend.

A list follows of sires and dams which qualified for the Register Of Merit from 1952 to 1990. Those Whippets awarded their certificates at the 1990 AWC National Specialty are indicated with an asterik (*)

CARI ON THE PRIDE OF WYNDSOR has done it all. At age 18 months she was the youngest bitch to get both her NAWRA and NOTRA Championships. Carl is a pretty, petite, red bitch (20”/27 Ibs), who totally exemplifies the dual purpose whippet. She is truely a winner.
