Rafina Rhianda of Kamara) Daphne lives with Chris and Lee House and the rest of the Bavarian Hounds in Southern California , and is co-owned with her breeder, Dan Lockhart. She became qualified for racing this fall and immediately came into her first season just before the last 6 races of the year, the Turkey Run lure course and the back to back NPR/OVAL. "CLUE" started 1987 fighting for his life, but with his health restored, finished the year with BOW under Ms. Thelma Brown and Ms. Grace Brewin and needs only singles to complete his championship. May 1987 saw the untimely passing of Wildfire's first lady - "Travels" - PIKOP'S WAYWARD WIND Tr a y passed her quick tongue, kneeling, and sit spins onto many of her children, of which she had eight, by two husbands - among those were: Ch. Wildfire's Bewitching Fancy
"WINDY" divided 1987 between the specials ring and the whelping box. In the ring, she had multiple breed wins and was group placing, and she handily delivered a litter sired by Wildfire's Exclusive.

June 5, 1987 I turn onto Interstate 5, this highway becoming so familiar in the runs between home in Portland and the Salem hospital, this highway where the all-business attitude breaks down, where I don't have to be strong for anyone, where my mind swims with memories instead of the present. I look at Emmet beside me and see instead his mother, Sox, just leased and just bred, sitting on the sofa beside my father only two weeks before his death, with his hand, thin and shaking from his battle with lymphosarcoma, reaching over to stroke her with a puzzled look in his eye. But the question, "Did you get another dog?" was beyond his strength. I look at Emmet and see my mom, then healthy and smiling, her eyes lighting up, reaching into the whelping box to pick up a puppy for a picture. I think of those days, when she took the day shift and I took the night shift, working ourselves to exhaustion to save the litter when Sox rejected them. It was such a triumph to succeed. Maybe a little because we'd been helpless to save my dad. I look at Emmet and see instead Amos, his littermate, so happy and well-adjusted, the first puppy in the litter to go to his new home. And I think of how, tears streaming down my face, I hugged his cold, stiff body to me when I took him home to bury him in the garden after he'd slipped, like quicksilver, from his frantic owners to meet his death on a road. I think of the question I've heard so many times since: "Are you going to keep the whole litter?" And how I've never been able to give a truthful answer because of the emotional investment I have in them. As the miles slip by and the morning sun slides in the side window to touch Emmet's coat, I think of Mom, her blue eyes enormous against the white hospital sheet, saying in response to my admitted reluctance, "Emmet needs his own person, Claire. He wants to be someone's special dog. Like Reckless needed to be my dog." But I do not want my life to change. I do not want my mom to die of cancer like Dad. And although I try to be pleased about the situation, I really do not want to sell any more puppies, these puppies that Mom and I fought so hard to save. June 7, 1987 This woman, Ellen, who wants to buy my Emmet, is a tall woman with a wide, friendly smile. As she, for the first time, watches Emmet chase the lure, she exclaims in delight, "He's like a little rocket!" I can't help but smile back, because I recognize that look and remember when, many years ago, I watched Dreamer run for the first time. The puppies take after him--for them there is no death, only the wild and happy abandon of faster. For those people who will take the time for such exhibitions, it is a tonic for a weary heart.
