| The 1987 Whippet National Champion is Connie and Jack Eaker's great racer LYTH YORK, ARM ORC. Although he was injured late in the year his early year win streak carried him to the National Championship. LYTH DAVY, ARM ORC began racing on the oval in the summer and was a major contender for the rest of the year ending the year in 2nd place in the Top Ten. LYTH HAL, ARM ORC was very strong on the rail-lure track. His wins there brought him 3rd place. LYTH HERN, ARM ORC was particularly strong at 350 meters earning 4th place in the Top Ten. LYTH SATUS started the year with 4 wins and it had looked like he had a good chance to win the National Championship for a fourth
straight year. Unfortunately, he was injured in mid-season and did not appear on the track again in an official meet for
the rest of the year. His early year performances earned him 5th place. YORK, DAVY, HAL and HERN are all littermates. |

Drag-lure tracks of 220 meters (243 yards) and 350 meters (383 yards) were used, and rail-lure tracks where races of 300 to 440 yards were run.
Twenty three different whippets won meets this year. Those that won more than once were:

Not to be outdone by his Dad, Batman went on to finish his L.C.M. this year. A Spring ligament injury requiring surgery kept him from the field for much of the season, but he came back strong in the Fall to finish up. Batman took points every time he ran a field trial with the exception of one in which he was injured and one in which he was pulled. He finished with a total of 5 BOB's and a BIF.
