REGALSTOCK LYTH ROUTER, ARM, ORC ROUTER is one of the finest racers in the country for 1985. The winner of many NPR and Oval meets, he is ranked in the National Top Ten in NPR and Oval racing "far the second year. He also shares the 1985 NOTRA Triple Crown (given for winning on a variety of tracks over various distances) with litter brother two-time NPR and Oval National Champion LYTH SATUS, ARM ORC. He was one of the few racers who could occasionally defeat brother Satus. ROUTER is a good-looking magnificently colored 20-1/2" Whippet with a lovely personality. His racing trademark is determination and 110% effort. He is a litter brother not only to LYTH SATUS, ARM ORC, but also to REGALSTOCK LYTH ROGUE, ARM ORC, NPR Top Twenty racer. The Top Ten of Oval Racing is determined by National Oval Points, which are earned by placing first, second or third in race meets. 19 85 Naytional Oval Racing Champi o n Lyth Satus, ARM OR C photo by Mike McDonald Seventeen regional clubs hosted 38 meets with over 1,100 entries in 7 states and 2 provinces of Canada, with oval racing expanding to Minnesota and Missouri this year. There were 35 meets for Whippets only and four meets with races for breeds other than Whippets. Afghan Hounds, Greyhounds, Borzoi, Scottish Deerhounds and Salukis ran in Offical meets this year in addition to Whippets. NOTRA oval racing continues to demonstrate why it is one of the most thrilling of the Sighthound sports. It continues to attract many new participants and fans. Twelve different Whippets won meets this year. Those who won more than one meet were LYTH SATUS, ARM ORC (11), CHAPARRAL'S BARJE JIGOLO, ARM ORC (8), REGALSTOCK LYTH ROUTER, ARM ORC (5), JANIES JOHN BOY DA TORO, ARM ORC (2), and TRYLSON OF WYNDSOR, ARM ORC (2). The 1985 Whippet National Oval Racing Champion is Tony and Karen Lewis' LYTH SATUS, ARM ORC who also won the title in 1984. He is the first dog to repeat as National Champion for a second year. He beat out Connie arid Jack Eaker's speedster CHAPARRAL'S BARJE JIGOLO, ARM ORC in a tough fight. It came down to the last meet of the year before the title was determined with JIGOLO ending as 2nd in the Top Ten. Dave and Annette Rosenstock's REGALSTOCK LYTH ROUTER, ARM ORC was a strong 3rd in the Top Ten and Tom Yeager's veteran racer JANIES JOHN BOY DA TORO, ARM ORC placed 4th. Dave Pratt's TRYLSON OF WYNDSOR, ARM ORC, although sparingly raced, made his presence felt, placing 5th. The NOTRA "Triple Crown" perpetual trophy recognises a Whippet which is outstanding under all conditions of distance and track type. To qualify, a Whippet must win a 220 meter and a 350 meter drag-lure meet and also win a rail-lire meet at a distance of 300 yards or more. If more than one Whippet qualifies, the trophy is awarded to the dog which earns the highest sum of National points in the largest of the 3 types of meets won. This year both SATUS arid ROUTER won qualifying meets, and also tied for tie-breaker points, so the trophy is to be shared between them.
